wait this is a new SNL cast member? sounds extremely dire!!

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Friday, 13 September 2019 17:33 (four years ago) link

I have never heard this word "nooders" before.

Yerac, Friday, 13 September 2019 17:45 (four years ago) link

please just tell me what that means don't make me look it up

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Friday, 13 September 2019 17:46 (four years ago) link

so Eddie Murphy will be guest hosting this year, and presumably reviving some characters that are almost 40 years old

suddenly "I'm Gumby, dammit" seems like a masterwork in the current context

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Friday, 13 September 2019 17:48 (four years ago) link

they are talking about noodles, and according to urban dictionary it's supposed to be saying noodles with an asian accent or a derogatory term for an asian person. I totally overlooked it because of the chink, MSG, dishonest cuisine and ducks in window commentary.

Yerac, Friday, 13 September 2019 17:49 (four years ago) link

xp. when was the last time you watched SNL morbs?

Seany's too Dyche to mention (jim in vancouver), Friday, 13 September 2019 17:50 (four years ago) link

like, most of the show? when Betty White hosted.

i don't have TV now, but whenever i see a sketch online and watch it (maybe twice a year), it's always the worst thing ever. Adam Driver's gay p0rn bit at least gave me a stiffie.

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Friday, 13 September 2019 17:53 (four years ago) link

haha! I was about to say I bet you watched the adam driver one.

Yerac, Friday, 13 September 2019 17:53 (four years ago) link

betty white most recently hosted in 2010, I'm assuming that's not the one you're referring to.

Seany's too Dyche to mention (jim in vancouver), Friday, 13 September 2019 17:55 (four years ago) link

i mean the show does bite but you have to watch to hate, it's the rules

Seany's too Dyche to mention (jim in vancouver), Friday, 13 September 2019 17:55 (four years ago) link

xp ty yerac, that is...not funny

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Friday, 13 September 2019 17:58 (four years ago) link

yes that was the Betty White one. It had one funny sketch with her and Tina Fey, and the rest was "lol Grandma has sex"

I saw ONE Driver sketch, Yerac. Love has its limits.

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Friday, 13 September 2019 18:14 (four years ago) link

that Kristin Stewart Totinos commercial was really great but idk how long ago that was

last SNL sketch that actually made me laugh, anyway

I think I am still kind of mad about that Bobby Hill boiled hotdog motherfucker Shane Gillis.
Its been years since I've seen KOTH, but I don't remember Bobby ever going through a total racist phase? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

☮ (peace, man), Friday, 13 September 2019 20:19 (four years ago) link

I only remember the episode where he got gout. He just looks like Bobby Hill and has that 13 yr old 'edginess'.

Yerac, Friday, 13 September 2019 20:25 (four years ago) link

That gout episode really resonated with me and one friend. We refer to it semi-annually.

Yerac, Friday, 13 September 2019 20:25 (four years ago) link

Bobby has a heart of gold

omg just watched that and it's fantastic

fremmes with neppavenettes (rip van wanko), Friday, 13 September 2019 21:32 (four years ago) link

Please for the love of god - if you hate SNL and think they haven't had a funny sketch in years (but also haven't watched in years!), just stay out of this thread! I'm not going to pretend that they are always funny, but I almost always find a couple of good laughs in every episode. And go back to whatever you think are the "golden" years and try to watch a whole episode. I'm guessing the batting average has always been pretty similar (low, but not zero). For a live weekly show, that's good enough for me and my quickskip button.

DJI, Friday, 13 September 2019 21:54 (four years ago) link

Man do i ever hate snl. They haven’t had a funny sketch in years!

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Friday, 13 September 2019 21:56 (four years ago) link

At least I think that’s the case, i haven’t seen an episode since 89

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Friday, 13 September 2019 21:57 (four years ago) link

this is a lot more recent than i thought this was going to be. was thinking it would be kevin nealon era or something

Seany's too Dyche to mention (jim in vancouver), Friday, 13 September 2019 21:57 (four years ago) link

i mean it's almost a decade but still

Seany's too Dyche to mention (jim in vancouver), Friday, 13 September 2019 21:57 (four years ago) link

it was in a bar

liked the show best in '75-80, will post things from that era as necessary

u know when it actually mattered

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Friday, 13 September 2019 22:48 (four years ago) link

putting in the long hard hours of watching this show totally earns you slagging rights itt

xp. nothing matters

especially not comedy

Seany's too Dyche to mention (jim in vancouver), Friday, 13 September 2019 22:52 (four years ago) link

I watch snl kind of like I check in with the Knicks or follow politics, out of conditioning and masochistically

Pryor and Tomlin mattered in the '70s, jiv

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Friday, 13 September 2019 22:58 (four years ago) link

(both hosted)

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Friday, 13 September 2019 22:59 (four years ago) link

Trump matters in the 'teens, and he hosted, so by that logic you should be watching now

gilda i'd give you

Seany's too Dyche to mention (jim in vancouver), Friday, 13 September 2019 23:31 (four years ago) link

have you seen the Pryor episode? he dominates it quite thoroughly

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Friday, 13 September 2019 23:31 (four years ago) link

On the one hand, the anti SNL hysteria can be pretty overblown, but on the other hand I do think it's become much worse the last two years, since Michael Che and Colin Jost became co-head writers.

Frederik B, Friday, 13 September 2019 23:52 (four years ago) link

the season before this last one was pretty strong from what I remember. this past year was not as strong. I still find weekend update the only reliably worthwhile segment.

I liked leslie jones and I like pete davidson.

these new cast members look instantly forgettable and fireable. show hasn't really had a breakout person since McKinnon came on.

akm, Saturday, 14 September 2019 00:08 (four years ago) link

I watch every damn episode for some reason

this past season was about as bad a season as they've had

that one Adam Driver sketch where he was the vengeful ancient oilman talking to a junior high class was great

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Saturday, 14 September 2019 02:11 (four years ago) link

I still don’t know what Pete Davidson actually does on this show.

Herman Woke (cryptosicko), Saturday, 14 September 2019 04:27 (four years ago) link

keeps snl ("snl star pete davidson") in the tabloids

wario in the streets, waluigi in the sheets (m bison), Saturday, 14 September 2019 04:46 (four years ago) link

I think I've seen every season described as the worst season in recent memory

I haven't watched regularly since..uh..well, before Bobby Moynahan joined the cast

Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Monday, 16 September 2019 13:00 (four years ago) link

This thread started 17 years ago bitching about how snl was bad.

Yerac, Monday, 16 September 2019 13:09 (four years ago) link

Two minutes into the first episode, there were people saying that the previous minute was better.

"SNL used to be good in [insert your prefeered era] and now it sucks" is like the most boring and predictable thing to say about SNL.

Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Monday, 16 September 2019 13:44 (four years ago) link

obv the show has had ups and lots of downs through its lifetime but it does seem like the Jost-era has been the longest uninterrupted shitty stretch(?)

it has always felt like the casting is the problem--jesus, the people they've passed on.
