Excited for Goose game, but also for Link's Awakening, as I've never played it before & I know it's a favorite of many

Neither have I, but $60 seems steep (it's the same reason I didn't get the Donkey Kong port), and with Luigi's Mansion looking awesome and right around the corner, I'd rather pay $60 for that.
― Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 19 September 2019 17:25 (four years ago) link
i'm not sure that $60 is too much for one's vital heat
― Tart Prepper (Sufjan Grafton), Thursday, 19 September 2019 17:42 (four years ago) link
Hear hear. I justify this to myself by the fact that 1) I almost never buy $60 games and 2) It's freakin' Zelda

basically never use my switch docked... half tempted to sell it and pick up a lite...

Anyone had trouble with "corrupted data" and things purchased digitally? I've tried downloading Astral Chain like ten times now and every time it finishes it tells me to do over because it's rotten or something
― gbx, Friday, 20 September 2019 00:59 (four years ago) link
do other downloads work? could be a faulty sd card if you're using one of those.
― ciderpress, Friday, 20 September 2019 01:13 (four years ago) link
hmmmm -- i am using an SD card, but the last download (just a few days prior) was fine
― gbx, Friday, 20 September 2019 04:24 (four years ago) link
try downloading some free game like fortnite or warframe or whatever and see if it also corrupts
― ciderpress, Friday, 20 September 2019 13:49 (four years ago) link
Weird, I see the Goose game on the Switch store but there is no 'buy' button.

I also can't wrap my head around paying 60 bucks for Link's Awakening, but I really do quite want it. I could reasonably justify maybe $25, no more than $30. Typically when I have a spare game voucher (or money in my Venmo account) I can convince myself it's pretend money and spend it on whatever extravagant nonsense I want, but for some reason I can't convince myself of it this time around. $60 feels like a ripoff.

nintendo games hold their value forever so you might be waiting for a while
― Is it true the star Beetle Juice is going to explode in 2012 (bizarro gazzara), Friday, 20 September 2019 19:15 (four years ago) link
first party $60 games go on sale for $40 occasionally, beyond that you'd have to find a retailer trying to get rid of stock
― ciderpress, Friday, 20 September 2019 19:22 (four years ago) link
already 40£ on cdkeys... I'm optimistic...
xp
― heard about you (||||||||), Friday, 20 September 2019 19:23 (four years ago) link

― Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Friday, 20 September 2019 19:32 (four years ago) link
y'all are skinflints. Video games are impossible to make and all of them should be at least $60.

Silby, my bet is that Nintendo’s doing just fine
― unashamed and trash (Unctious), Friday, 20 September 2019 20:24 (four years ago) link
I've been playing through the NES/SNES Zeldas on Switch Online. spending $60 on the next one is my destiny.
― Tart Prepper (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 20 September 2019 20:25 (four years ago) link
oh Nintendo is doing great, truly crazy numbers on the software side, but like for example Celeste, last year's game of the year, was worth $60, but is $20, and that's the sort of price discrimination that bums me out.
That said I'm glad cheaper games are accessible to more people.
― president of deluded fruitcakes anonymous (silby), Friday, 20 September 2019 20:35 (four years ago) link
I've got no problem with them charging $60, if that's what they want to do, but on every other system the price steadily drops after a while. There are plenty of huge AAA games I've gotten for the PS4 for less than $20 that surely took a heck of a lot more time and work than a graphical rehaul of this Zelda game. Or, you know, games that will at least occasionally be on sale for significantly less than retail. I've noted it before, but Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze was a port of a Wii-U game and it cost *more* on the Switch than it did on the Wii-U!. But the Dark Souls Remastered, for example, was $40 across all systems.
And again, as far as gold standards go, Hollow Knight is $15 for a gorgeous, awesome, long and involved original game, certainly one of my faves of all time. I would have happily paid more for that one, but clearly the developers were happy charging a pittance.
― Josh in Chicago, Friday, 20 September 2019 20:52 (four years ago) link
Yeah Hollow Knight is all-time insane value for money. Plus I’m stuck again so I’ll be playing that fucker for years.
I bought Link’s Awakening on the day of release because I finally admitted to myself that I’m a Zelda groupie. I also have an 11 day old newborn so I’ve played it for like five minutes, but it looks adorable! Would be surprised if it’s better than the new Switch version of Link to the Past, though.
― Chuck_Tatum, Sunday, 22 September 2019 22:03 (four years ago) link
Switch would be perfect with a newborn.

yes! I had a good session on the Ori & The Blind Forest demo yesterday while I was lying down, with the baby passed out and snoozing on top
In the name of newborn cupboard space I also gave my PS3, wii and gamecube away to a friend’s daughters and feel a lot of relief about not having to finish those games
