mad river - s/t

isn't this like some alice in chains side project?

hahaha! NO!

sorry, that was mad season

team jaxon (jaxon), Saturday, 4 February 2006 00:33 (eighteen years ago) link

one of the best psych records ever!

I didn't like Whinos, Rhinos, etc at first either ... seemed too normal or like a letdown coming after Be Good To YOurself At LEast Once A Day. But I like it now. as boogie rock goes it's still pretty good.

oh, and my standard anecdote about the first mad river album is that they apparently mixed or mastered it at the wrong speed and that's why it's so speedy! this sounds very plausible when you listen to it. it is a very speedy record.

jebadiah - rock 'n' soul (70's funky disco stones covers)

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 4 February 2006 02:43 (eighteen years ago) link

today i gots:

"South Indian Strings" on Lyrichord (violin ragas)
Bukka White "Blues Masters Vol. 4" (decent electric stuff from the early sixties, i think?)
pharaoh sanders "jewels of thought"

and some 45s. including one titled "big legged woman with a short short miniskirt." i love vaguely naughty r&b 45s. they're so much fun.

james van der beek (dubplatestyle), Monday, 6 February 2006 20:34 (eighteen years ago) link

pretty uneven record -- though not suprising since the 12" was more where he and most early hip hoppers excelled. plus, bill laswell is always a bad sign.

Jack Cole (jackcole), Monday, 6 February 2006 20:40 (eighteen years ago) link

i work with a dude who was in young pioneers.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Monday, 6 February 2006 20:50 (eighteen years ago) link

jane dragged me to a young pioneers show aeons ago, a nascent locust opening up for them. decent and much better than the avail show she dragged me too around the same time. the band that opened for avail still scars my brain with the lead singers native american rants in between songs but i supose that's hardcore.

hey ian, is there any way i can beg you to make me a copy of the shadow ring'scity lights? i could make you some sort of thing in exchange if you can suffer my terrible taste.

Jack Cole (jackcole), Monday, 6 February 2006 20:55 (eighteen years ago) link

i was wracking my brain to think which '90s hardcore band woulda been ranting about native americans between songs before i remembered it coulda been any of them

james van der beek (dubplatestyle), Monday, 6 February 2006 21:06 (eighteen years ago) link

the irony of that show was that i was supposed to meet her there but it sold it out before she got there. i left half way through avail figuring she hadnt shown up.
