That story has a way of lingering in the mind.

Yeah, with sound effects!

Coworker who always ALWAYS sucks air through his teeth after he does his "polite to customer" laugh - which he does very frequently as some kind of reflex thing - please, just stop. You sound like you stubbed your toe every 5 minutes. And stop saying "more than welcome" all the time! WTF.

OK, the only other person in the building at the moment has been chattering away for constantly for half an hour in the next office. I know he's alone. I know he doesn't have a mobile phone. I know he's not on the landline because all our phones have indicators to show which lines are in use. But he really sounds as though he's having a conversation. WTF?

James Morrison, Friday, 19 June 2009 02:11 (fourteen years ago) link

maybe he's got a tin-can/string phone connection to the building opposite?

rainy, Friday, 19 June 2009 03:49 (fourteen years ago) link

Maybe he's watching a video thing?

eight months pass...

I have avoided posting on this thread, but can't stand it anymore.

Dude in my office is a trainwreck of a coworker.

We are attorneys. Ergo, our job includes some petty annoyances which you really just need to get over. These can include demolition of your social plans on a semi-regular basis, lack of regard for your social life by coworkers or superiors, long hours, lack of predictability of schedule.

In other words, you need to be flexible and willing to work to make things work.

All I hear is constant bitching about "I was planning on doing this, and this motherfucker gave me an assignment to do that! Fuck him!" or "Damnit, I had to work this weekend." or "Man, I work too hard."

And its always someone else's fault that these things have happened to him. Its never his fault at all.

All this in an office of 10 total people. Dude. People will hear you, whether they want to or not.

SHUT UP!!!!

Now, if this was his only annoying habit, it would be easier to deal with. Some people deal with things by complaining about them. But it isn't. The other stuff:

- He's an only child, and acts like it around the office by assuming that you want to hear every minute detail about whatever he has done or will be doing. In the course of discussing things at the office, I have heard about the following: his girlfriend's repeated urinary tract infections, his dog's incontinence, his mom's overuse of medical marijuana, and several other strains of conversation which are not worth going into.

- Along those same lines, he always assumes that we're going to eat lunch together. Bro, its not elementary school. Sometimes, I just want to eat in silence and stare at the wall. And not have to hear about any of the above-mentioned items.

- He constantly...CONSTANTLY...fiddles with his crotch. Dude.

- His bad breath is overwhelming. Like, by the end of the day, the hallway outside of his office smells like his halitosis.

- In general, he has this overblown sense of entitlement which I just don't get. He is rude to people, short-tempered, and treats subordinates like shit, which they hold against him. All of this seems to stem from the fact that he's an attorney.

Oh, and he overquotes movies incorrectly. All the time.

Oh this. It really bugs me when people get all offended when you tell them you just want to eat alone sometimes.

officemate talks constantly on the phone, mostly making plans with family and friends or talking to the fucking CONCIERGE service in her building. I know she's busy and she just moved and all, but fuck. Often I turn around thinking of asking her nicely to go outside and realize she's on the office phone.

Most of these calls have the running theme of "Oh god, I can't be there at that time, I have to work. I work in a law office" etc. YOU COME IN AT 11AM EVERY FUCKING MORNING. YOU CAN WAKE UP EARLY AND LET THE SUPER IN BEFORE YOU LEAVE.

Okay, I don't know if this is a "habit", but this really nice guy moved to the desk behind me and I have discovered that he makes this loud sharp throat-clearing noise every few minutes. It's worst than fingernails on a chalk board. He doesn't smoke or anything. Nervous tic maybe? Hopefully he is getting over illness or something. </vent>

I got headphones in and my coworker always bothers me. Appears behind me randomly. Talks about every call he gets. I've had to tell him to essentially fuck off.

Well. Couldn't find the other thread but wanted to say the bullying has stopped after I approached her weeks back. She's not nice per se but better. Anyways my manager told me today there's been a culture of toxicity for years and they're trying to fix it. Good news

kolakube (Ross), Friday, 9 February 2018 20:23 (six years ago) link

get rid of the toxic people? what's so confusing

clouds, Sunday, 11 February 2018 16:18 (six years ago) link

usually the issue isn't recognizing it as much as realizing there's just *so many* toxic people that if you sacked them all at once, the company would have to close for a month

Hi diddley dee, hen fapper's life for me (Neanderthal), Sunday, 11 February 2018 16:22 (six years ago) link

the one thing I always found about toxic people is they rarely expect people to parry, and the few times I have they actually recoiled in shock.

no prouder moment than when I fuckin' faced down one of the top execs in our company after he was being a prick and he just let me.

coworker this week: "Ohhhh my god why do I have such horrible stomach pains?"

Ah ha ha.

This is the thread I need at least as often as the 'stupid, annoying coworkers' thread.

Hey dude who always loudly scats at the urinal: don't do that. You don't need to do that.

i assume you mean scat in the scatman john sense of the word rather than the umm... other sense?

The former, but I would never discount what else a disgusting savage of this ilk might be capable of.
