whereas neil is currently smoking a joint and thinking ... "now what was the name of that record from 1975? oh yeah Homegrown, we should put that out. hold on a sec ... what were the songs on that one. had em on a post-it note sometime in 2002..."

"Lessee, where's that post-it...hm, that gives me an idea. Billy, Ralph, Nils, get this riff...ok...cool, yeah, keep that going...are we rolling?...cool...[sings] POST-IT NOTE! EVERYTHING'S ON A POST-IT NOTE! I SAW A POLAR BEAR RIDING BY ON A POST-IT NOTE! [40 minutes later] OK, cool, another classic. Put it out."

I have a friend who was at the show where "Post-It Note" was played the first and only time. He said it was the best thing he ever heard. No recordings exist, unfortunately.

That “powderfinger” can exist on an SD card is something that I’m sure blows Neil’s mind as he tokes

maybe the solution is Neil recording himself talking about what these albums sound like. The real heads will get it.

I've accepted that being a Neil Young fan means constant disappointment punctuated by occasional elation, but the fact that Homegrown still hasn't been released frustrates me more than just about anything in the world

oh and hey here's a pdf of this homegrown essay I wrote (kind of an expanded directors cut of a section from an uncut feature i wrote a few years ago) https://we.tl/t-olOP9wZZ8A

should say that both "white line" and "homegrown" should be unheard/unreleased versions of those songs, too. Not positive about Star of Bethlehem of Little Wing.

or an announcement about it being PONO/NYA exclusive or whatever. maybe this is the overarching strategy - make it so the $39.99 LP release seems like a great, accessible deal

i'll be a v happy camper if i can just go into a record store and buy it on vinyl (...as it was meant to be... made in the mid-nineteen seventies!)

The ultimate dick move would be to make it a Pono exclusive, since Pono no longer exists.
(Not ruling this out.)

not to let the facts get in the way of everyone's bitching but the last spate of Archives releases have all been about $22 on vinyl including Songs for Just, the Roxy ($18 right now on Amazon) and Hitchhiker which is the most directly comparable to Homegrown
― Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 27 November 2019 18:07 (four years ago) link
yeah if it's a single LP it probably won't be more than $20.

also i missed the bus on the roxy and tuscaloosa sets — worth it?
(some background: i liked the cellar door, fillmore east, and massey hall sets alright but did not get much out of them past the first few listens)
