Weren't there versions of this record sent to radio DJs that had the city names re-recorded specifically for various different markets (ie. Toronto, Miami, Milwaukee, etc.) or did I make that up?

Wasn't that We Built This City?

"We Built This City" had a version with the San Francisco DJ doing a little patter and one without.

I don't know about any songs where local cities were included.

I saw HL&TN live during this tour, and I do have to say that he added LITTLE ROCK! to the line-up. As a matter of fact, the song basically ended with him repeating LITTLE ROCK! LITTLE ROCK! over and over again while the crowd screamed.

xp one of the weirdest lineups I've ever seen, btw:

May 15, 1984
Barton Coliseum, Little Rock, AR - May 15, 1984

Huey Lewis and the News
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Mr. Mister

I'm sure the SRV fans thoroughly bullied the others

quintessential example of this has gotta be "High School USA" by Tommy Facenda, where he recorded a few dozen different versions for different cities, namechecking all the high schools in that area

i think it's New York since where else can you do a half a million things all at 2:45

St. Louis definitely had a version that said "SAINT LOUIS! Champaign, Illinois!"

Different radio stations also had specific edits of "Rock Me Amadeus." During the chronology bit they'd say like, "1986, Q107 is the first to play... Rock me Amadeus!"

It was, in some respects, a simpler time, with simpler pleasures.

My favorite (somewhat bootlegged) version of this.
