last week i had two older people a couple of seats away from me. the first one kept checking her phone (very annoying), they talked a few times until they were shushed repeatedly and then the second one fell asleep and started snoring. i've had that happen a few times including one where the guy in front of me was snoring extremely loud so i had to constantly wake him up. i felt like a dick but also felt like by the second time i woke him up dude should have got the message and left

For whatever reason I witnessed the worst audience behavior at a spaghetti western festival at the Film Forum, where normally the self-policing audience will immediately shut down the slightest misbehavior. One guy not only snored loudly but every five minutes or so would wake up with a bone-chilling gasp, startling himself so much he would kick the seat in front of him with a loud smack. Another guy opened up a plate of reeking Chinese takeout mid-film. Also there was a general testiness in the crowd, with people nearly coming to blows over seating issues etc. It was if they had bused in the audience from some facility where the residents aren't normally released to do things in public.

Who’s gonna be the first to post to this thread from a movie theater? (Apologies if this bad joke has already been made)

Read this upthread and couldn't believe I hadn't heard it before—that Lemmy went to see The Hateful Eight and died right in the middle of it.

The snoring, loud conversations, and visible phones didn't exactly help though...

Seeing people say that they're aggravated by other people in the audience practically every time they go to the movies is wild to me.

NYC has way more assholes per capita, esp since the Sex and the City and Girls watchers moved in 8 to an apartment.

I'm in a THEATER theater seeing a play and this dude next to me kept whipping his phone out to play with it towards the end of the first act.

I am now bitching about him on ILX at intermission.

Orlando. yeah if it was NYC I could just basically point and the ushers would show up.

I just glared at him and he got the hint and stopped manspreading.

Cool, i am familiar with but have not seen.
I am hitting Fefu and Her Friends this upcoming week, which features an act during which different portions of the audience will leave their seats to stand extensively at different acts. I don’t know if its possible everyone will have the fortitude to avoid slipping a quick pic for the gram tbh.

When theaters are back after the Greater Depression, it’s going to be worse. Everyone will demand the ability to stop a screening so they can go pee or check Instagram.

Literally one of my last night's out in the before times was seeing a production of Fefu that was simplified to all the action happening in a big staging area with fixed seating for the audience.

it was a good show! much more mobile for the crowd which had to get in where they fit in at the various staging areas.
i miss movies. i miss theater. i miss concerts. i miss restaurants. i miss museums. i miss public spaces.
going to the met this Thursday for their first day open; hope i don't die.

I've been to a few movies since things reopened in MN. In one there were maybe two other people in the theater and one of them was talking on her phone for a few minutes in the middle of the movie, in another a couple talked and joked quietly several times during the film. On both occasions I got the sense that these people didn't think normal rules applied because there were so few people in the audience — despite having to actually follow a number of new rules (wearing masks, distancing, etc.).
