She-Ra and the Princesses of Power (Netflix)

more or less the only show I've watched this year

Swilling Ambergris, Esq. (silby), Wednesday, 11 December 2019 00:11 (four years ago) link

as such I won't be voting but someone should

Swilling Ambergris, Esq. (silby), Wednesday, 11 December 2019 00:11 (four years ago) link

Maniac would be my number one but oops that was 2018

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 11 December 2019 00:11 (four years ago) link

If you want to see it, Vote for it. One or two show ballots welcome; we will work out an offsetting points method

I'm sure nobody else has been watching it, but I'm gonna nominate The Bonus Family (Netflix) anyway.

shared unit of analysis (unperson), Friday, 13 December 2019 16:10 (four years ago) link

your conversation about it had me add it to my queue. what's the draw?

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Friday, 13 December 2019 17:06 (four years ago) link

lol, i watched five minutes of Perpetual Grace with my partner and she muttered "i don't know what the fuck is going on here" and wandered off so it looks like i'm gonna have to try this one on my own.

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Friday, 13 December 2019 17:07 (four years ago) link

Ha! Here for assistance, moral support etc

Le Bateau Ivre, Sunday, 15 December 2019 16:18 (four years ago) link

your conversation about it had me add it to my queue. what's the draw?

Lots of things. The baroque interlocking relationships of the various characters (at one point, one person introduces herself to another at a party by saying something like "I'm your boyfriend's ex's husband's first wife") is hilarious, but I also find the portrait of Swedish society in general very interesting and funny, plus I enjoy listening to the language as a study aid.

two weeks pass...

Little nudge here and am nominating:

Mum (BBC2)
Infinity Train (Cartoon Network)

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Monday, 30 December 2019 05:36 (four years ago) link

Just watched Undone, maybe my least favorite universally beloved series of the year

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Monday, 30 December 2019 05:58 (four years ago) link

does that mean you didn't like it or just in comparison to the universal beloveding

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Monday, 30 December 2019 06:00 (four years ago) link

Brockmire (IFC)
Fake or Fortune (BBC)
The Kominsky Method (Netflix)
The Repair Shop (BBC)
Techmoan (Youtube)
Yorkshire Walks (BBC)

Dan Worsley, Monday, 30 December 2019 09:48 (four years ago) link

Forgot about brockmire! Certainly top 25

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Monday, 30 December 2019 14:03 (four years ago) link

I think of 63 Up as a movie, but would concede to UK viewers if it is seen there as more of a short TV series.

Guayaquil (eephus!), Monday, 30 December 2019 14:16 (four years ago) link

does that mean you didn't like it or just in comparison to the universal beloveding

somewhere in between? idk I liked some moments here and there but by the end it just sort of fell flat for me

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Monday, 30 December 2019 14:20 (four years ago) link

The Righteous Gemstones (HBO)

Chris L, Monday, 30 December 2019 14:30 (four years ago) link

i found undone occasionally predictable, as it hews close to tropes, but extremely satisfying nonetheless

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Monday, 30 December 2019 14:43 (four years ago) link

think of 63 Up as a movie, but would concede to UK viewers if it is seen there as more of a short TV series.

This and 56 Up were three episodes; most of the other adult ones have been two episodes.

don't care didn't ask still clappin (sic), Monday, 30 December 2019 20:11 (four years ago) link

I wouldn't have even bothered nominating it but I remembered that there's at least like two other ILXors who recognize its (late) greatness so

The OA (Netflix)

Drive Like a Demon From Steakhouse to Steakhouse (Old Lunch), Monday, 30 December 2019 20:31 (four years ago) link

i can't defend this as it is objectively horrible (the description of "aggretsuko for manbabies"isn't necessarily wrong) but it's kinda worth throwing into the mix imo
Africa no Salaryman (Tokyo FX)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QmXjkKnXo8M

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Monday, 30 December 2019 20:41 (four years ago) link

Well, since Esmail had to go and actually wrap things up in a satisfactory enough fashion that I've gone from side-eyeing the whole endeavor to thinking that I might conceivably recommend it to the uninitiated with minimal reservations

Mr. Robot (USA)

Drive Like a Demon From Steakhouse to Steakhouse (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 31 December 2019 03:55 (four years ago) link

the OA was a spectacular series. awful it's gone.

I was well into this but that second season was lame (could see the BIG TWIST a mile off and I'm generally terrible at spotting these things). Ive been reliably informed by friends that its gotten much better

The World According To.... (Michael B), Tuesday, 31 December 2019 11:47 (four years ago) link

Tiny, forgotten comedy series that I in 2019:

Don't forget the driver (bbc2)

Dead pixels (ch4)

Zomboat (ITV2)

I predict 0 votes for all the above.
