I mean almonds are a vital component in marzipan, and gain their classic status from that - but hazelnuts is the answer here.

Always good: hazelnuts, almonds (Scik's post noted though)
V good as an occasional treat, probably won't become my staple nut-in-chocolate: pistachio
The only one on the list which is not good: walnuts
(I have never had pumpkin seeds in chocolate iirc though, I am not super sold on the concept tbh but would try)

Walnuts have a horrible spongy texture half the time that I can only assume is analogues with a cyst or pustule.

"mom?"
"yes honey?"
"are we eating wood?"

à propro de honey salted almond Ritter Sport, I just had a Lindt almond-flour de sel 31% chocolat noir & it was excellent. obv different sans honey plus salt but extremely good. Lindt is the chocolate marque that's risen in my estimation the most in the last couple of years.

I took this poll as a Ritter proxy and voted almond too. The marzipan one is also a go-to
― rob, Friday, 24 January 2020 15:25 (four years ago) link
yes I love the marzipan one alsotrauben nuss is also a top ritter sport (I like the one with raisons a little bit less than the pure nutt one)

honey salted almond, rum trauben nuss (hazelnuts! also I haven't seen a rum and nut without raisins in this country, alas, so I didn't know that was a thing) and marzipan are p. much my top 3 Ritter Sports, probably in that order, but only because for a while the local shop only did marzipan out of those three and I ate so. many.
think I only managed to buy one of them but the limited edition salty tortilla chip one was good too, if rather off-topic for the chocolate nut thread
― a passing spacecadet, Friday, 24 January 2020 15:45 (four years ago) link
tortilla chip noted here iirc: RITTER SPORT POLL
― rob, Friday, 24 January 2020 15:47 (four years ago) link
I think, for the purposes of this conversation, we can consider a tortilla chip to be a nut
