Forgive the thread spam, but I wanted to note that this show's 2019 season is nominated in the 2019 ILX TV poll:

If you like this show and you'd like to see it have a good showing in the poll (running in February) all you need to do is submit a ballot including it and your other favorites (4 minimum, 25 maximum, organized by your favorite to least favorite) to forksclovetofu at gmail by end of day today. It'll take five minutes; get to it!

only watched a few eps but yes it's my favorite thing this year. outside of On Cinema $11
has anyone seen that YouTube series he did with Connor O'Malley called "How To Make it in USA"? 9 episodes, about 40 minutes total, but its really great. Pera is hilarious but Connor steals the show
― frogbs, Friday, 31 January 2020 14:30 (four years ago) link
This topped my (short) ballot for that poll.

Really needed the “Joe Pera Shows You How to do Good Fashion” after the 1-2 gut punch of the previous episodes.

Joe: "Please don't mention that movie anymore"

There are certain performances and rhythms in this show that make me think of it as kind of like a Midwestern, live-action King of the Hill.

I realized this specifically in the episode where they go to Milwaukee.

ok it was always bothering me that this guy reminded me of **someone** and I finally figured out who it was
about 10 years ago there was this middle aged Southern guy named Steve Sutton who did a daily video blog even though he led a totally uneventful life and never really had anything to say. occasionally he would post little tutorials. a friend and I used to follow this guy religiously because there was something weirdly relaxing about watching him. it was like a daily moment of zen. anyway looking him up on YouTube again it looks like at least one of his videos got kind of famous

They just added this to the All 4 streaming service in the UK/Ireland. I've only watched two episodes: the Church announcements one and the very first one. I can't decide whether to just mill through the whole lot in one weekend or save them up for when I really need them. I just love it.

just plow through and then watch them multiple times when you need a pick me up

That seems like a good plan.
my partner L. _hated_ this show until I explained to her that no one is laughing at Joe and there's not some weird gloss of metahumor where we're all making fun of him and his world but that it is the squarest show on television and yet still very enjoyably sweet and funny. Then she liked it. She thought I was being mean by watching it and laughing!
I had to convince my husband of the same thing. He was really worried that it was some super-extreme comedy of embarrassment. But he relaxed when I assured him nothing bad would happen to Joe.

JOE and SARAH sit on their respective cots in Sarah’s fortified basement, each reading big books. Joe looks up, asks … JOE: “Sarah, do you think they’re still gonna do Movie Night at the library next week?” SARAH: “What?” Joe removes from his mouth the cinnamon stick he’s been chewing on. JOE: “Do you think that there’ll be Movie Night at the library next week?” Sarah opens her mouth to respond but pauses. Of course, it’ll be canceled, but she knows how much Joe looks forward to the event each month and doesn’t want to give him the disappointing news. Unfortunately, the pause lingers long enough for Joe to figure it out and he nods and returns to reading, disheartened. Sarah sees the sad look on his face and begins to hum the tune of “Good Time Girl,” used in the opening credits of The New Pope, a television show that they have been watching this week — one episode each night before bed. Joe doesn’t look up from his book but begins to move his shoulders up and down to the beat. Though he will never be able to dance like the attractive nuns at the beginning of each episode, Sarah and Joe imagine him doing so and smile. They go back to their books. —Joe Pera

REVERIES + REVERIES GOING DEEPERQ&A W/ FILMMAKERS MODERATED BY JOE PERAJanuary 27th 8pmhttps://stream.spectacletheater.com/
Reveries, and it’s follow-up Reveries: Going Deeper, are comedy tone poems/visual albums revolving around two mysterious drifters who never speak, but whose inner monologues carry us across a landscape of absurdist one-liners, surreal stories, and stream-of-consciousness musings. Backed by a dreamy original score and hallucinogenic montages created from camcorder footage shot over the course of years all around the world, Reveries is a singular, unclassifiable experience at the intersection of alt comedy, internet video art, and underground weirdo cinema.Reveries tracks the drifters as they travel across the American landscape in what reveals itself as a journey into their own unravelling minds and psyches. The more narrative-driven, Reveries: Going Deeper, takes place in a dystopian future where the drifters broadcast their “reveries” from an underground, pirate radio station, attempting to save the world by diving deeper into their own minds than they’ve ever been before.Stick around after the screening for a Q&A with Director Director Graham Mason & Writer/Stars Anthony Oberbeck & Matt Barats moderated by Joe Pera of Joe Pera Talks With You"
