my actual favorite e1 is "A Novel Podcast: Academia in Repose" which has a wonderful performance from felix but doesn't have the same psycho energy as the biden one or some of the others like the aforementioned

two weeks paid leave is an atom bomb of an episode. i remember really liking wine moms, i think eat chain was good?, whichever episode they introduced NBA StupidAss / "Black Flanders", geez i really just liek the whole podcast. it's one of my "immediate listens" these days

black flanders is 25: GoochTV Presents Four Out of Five Stars

if anyone else has listened to every ep like i have, maybe you can help me: there's one that ends (i think it's the end?) with a weird spacey reverby kinda "guided dream" thing that heavily features the orc in boot cut jeans. anyone?

...it's literally the first episode. hahaha.

I thought you were talking about the 9/11/01 trip report at the end of one of the early eps, I think Take Me to Your Dealer.

you might actually be right!

Look what Will did:

lt has been a privilege to campaign for the Democratic nomination for President, but it is clear that God has a different purpose for me at this moment in time. Read my full statement here: 1/19https://t.co/DWaQWegVzJ

xp yeah, I think that's the one that starts with some reverb/delay and then it just drowns everything out after a while.

Even though E1 can be hit or miss, the good eps are really great – would search:
- The SadCast
- So I Wrote a Thing (basically any of the Boosthouse eps)
- Artisan's Plate
- Red Camero Poster
- Dudes Rock
- Hot Lips
- D&D eps would probably be of interest if you like the CTH D&D eps, although those have way more work put into them.

Feel like it's good enough to just pick a show at random and not get disappointed. Branson/Andrew also seem like good guys!

Amber should definitely not leave her job for stand-up comedy.

I don't mean I disgaree, I mean I don't know what you're referring to.

she did a big joke at the end of the recent live episode.

cajunsunday, Wednesday, 5 February 2020 08:57 (four years ago) link

all of em were a little cringey at the end of the latest live ep. I chalked it up to them being a little emotional/ hopeful—not exactly their long suit

cool

I won’t vote for anyone but Bernie in the general, can’t say what the hundreds of thousands of people who listen to my show will do, but I’m only speaking for myself. Just something to consider.

"if all you care about is beating trump, you have an imperative to back Bernie since we're all dead-enders here" has been their argument for a while. if he died or became unviable over time they'd change their tune.

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Wednesday, 5 February 2020 16:09 (four years ago) link

fwiw everyone I know who has listened to their show at some point takes that with the same grain of salt we apply to any political commentary from you coastal elites and plans to vote for whoever gets the nom :)

I honestly doubt this is true

Frederik B, Wednesday, 5 February 2020 16:19 (four years ago) link

I mean, for terminally online ppl, sure. Of course there's no substitute for donating and canvassing and the like.

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Wednesday, 5 February 2020 16:25 (four years ago) link

But who is it that needs to be blackmailed? I just think it will lead to resentment among the people who is being blackmailed, but who's support will be needed immediately after the election.

Frederik B, Wednesday, 5 February 2020 16:30 (four years ago) link

i mean tbf the democratic party has m/l been blackmailing the left since FDR died

this is every bit as lame as when Jon Stewart used to whine "but I'm just a comedian, not a serious news man!" it's pretty infuriating to me that you can make ridiculous amounts of money for spouting off about politics but as soon as someone even tries to take your influence seriously you retreat to insisting it's all just jokes.

Evans on Hammond (evol j), Wednesday, 5 February 2020 16:34 (four years ago) link

The idea is to evoke the dread spectre of the Big Scary Bernie Horde as a cruel monolith of denial, as an ironic-or-isn't-it reaction to the endless bernie bro thinkpieces. It's a bit. The vast majority of Bernie ppl would vote dem in the general in actual reality (ok, maybe not if Bloomberg got the nom)

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Wednesday, 5 February 2020 16:36 (four years ago) link

It's not quite a bit and not quite an actual tactic. And it likely has no actual bearing on reality either way.

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Wednesday, 5 February 2020 16:37 (four years ago) link

Not quite a bit, not quite a tactic, definitely dumb, imo

Frederik B, Wednesday, 5 February 2020 16:38 (four years ago) link

I think it was born out of rofling about Warren supporters on twitter saying maybe we should vote for Bernie because his supporters will bolt the party if he isn't the nominee

Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Wednesday, 5 February 2020 16:41 (four years ago) link

fwiw the main groups I've seen really get engaged are people who are typically non-voters and younger people who may tend to be more hyperbolic to begin with

cynically I'd say that a lot of them in swing states are either going to feel disenfranchised and go back to sporadic voting, or more likely get older and drift toward the center a little as they remain engaged in the process and end up voting for more democrats down the road

check the DSA event attendance numbers in a couple years

caucus fricked iowa account (mh), Wednesday, 5 February 2020 16:42 (four years ago) link

not living in a swing state kicks ass

ciderpress, Wednesday, 5 February 2020 16:49 (four years ago) link

hmm I was thinking of just moving outside of north america entirely someday, but maybe I should try just getting out of a swing state first
