LBI - I am not trolling actually.
The vast majority of posts from myself (as I was called to be thread banned by a poster I hardly interact with, a tantrum for real) on the Berners thread has been info as we get it from twitter. Mordy posted the Iowa turn out info many hours after I posted the same on the Berners thread. I followed the story first thing by using ilx and twitter.

Fwiw there isn't one in French and Romanian either, so that would be my amateurish guess as well.
The cognate verb 'bannir' comes close but it doesn't serve quite the same purposes in French.
Anyway, props for the quality chime-in.

But why in the square? You went there when you wanted to do something. It was all thick slabs of slate and water trickled all day out of tiny pinholes and there was a queer smell of stale water there. And behind the door of one of the closets there was a drawing in red pencil of a bearded man in a Roman dress with a brick in each hand and underneath was the name of the drawing:Balbus was building a wall. Some fellow had drawn it there for a cod. It had a funny face but it was very like a man with a beard. And on the wall of another closet there was written in backhand in beautiful writing:Julius Cæsar wrote The Calico Belly.Perhaps that was why they were there because it was a place where some fellows wrote things for cod.

I will sodomize you and face-fuck you, bottom Aurelius and catamite Furius, you who think, because my poemsare sensitive, that I have no shame. For it's proper for a devoted poet to be moralhimself, [but] in no way is it necessary for his poems. In point of fact, these have wit and charm,if they are sensitive and a little shameless, and can arouse an itch, and I don't mean in boys, but in those hairy old men who can't get it up.Because you've read my countless kisses, you think less of me as a man?I will sodomize you and face-fuck you.

uh, even if someone was unfamiliar with Monty Python as the reference, they could still LOL at "bigus dickus" - like it is inherently funny because it is "big dick" with another syllable at the end -- and you can rhyme it with "pick us" or "lick us" ... like, motherfuckers think they can lick us, gonna give them a taste of my bigus dickus ... i mean, maybe it is bougie in origin, but ...

speaking as someone whose parents were a junior high teacher and an office manager and who also got a scholarship to Brown ... that would depend on a variety of factors, esp. race and place of origin.

when i think of roman punishments i don't really think of banishment anyway - that feels like more of a greek thing. for me the late roman republic way of doing it would be the proscription - you put someone's name on a list and it's immediately legal for anybody to kill them and take all their shit. classy people, those romans.
