SO MANY of these people have been ensconced in their own Versailles-but-dumber-for-consultants that they can’t handle anybody giving them snark or anything except perceived deference.

i thought the context of this was Bernie supporters doxxing/harrassing leadership in the Culinary Union. i think the problem here is we're always talking about different groups of people who don't overlap that much other than supporting Sanders. like I don't THINK it was any of the Chapo or Chapo-adjacent guys who were harrassing union members, but I'm sure some of them do drag Favreau on Twitter. maybe the rest of his rant clarifies that distinction but if it doesn't then yeah, he does need to stop whining.

This would be v unlikely given their summary of the events on their show, in which they concluded that it made sense for the union to not tie themselves to a specific candidate and that if anyone lost out it was Biden

Will and Katherine Krueger were on the West Wing Thing's latest episode - ssurprised that she hasn't pushed into the podcast world aside from one or two Chapo spots, she's good on the mic.

She has. She and Will do the VanderPod, your standard Vanderpump Rules rewatch cast(w/ guests like Brandy Jensen)

on the subject of broader lefty pods, I've been enjoying QAnon Anonymous, which is pretty slick and polished for a show that follows (and mocks) the minutiae of contemporary conspiracy culture
― bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Thursday, 20 February 2020 18:09 (four years ago) link
I forgot about Vanderpod, but I mean in a more politics-oriented podcast.
The former Splinter people should start one. HamNo, Katherine and Libby Watson would be a good cast. (Except the obvious reason that 2/3 have real writing jobs.)

QAnon Anonymous
I like this one too, it's kind of like a goofy and very specific Citations Needed.

Brace Belden isn't bad I just can't stand listening to him on Chapo so I've never given TrueAnon a shot.

― billstevejim, Friday, 21 February 2020 18:25 (four years ago) link
while i find true anon pretty obnoxious and don't listen to any of these podcasts (my gf listens to chapo so i catch some of it, she was into true anon for a little bit but stopped listening to it a while ago) i feel like it at least realizes that the splenetic and irreverent nature is the most appealing aspect of this kind of podcast. chapo eps often descend into an unsuccessful stand-up comedian playing wonk and an autodidact vulgar marxist ranting about late capitalism. whereas dunking on ross douthat is the core, the heart music
― frederik b. godt (jim in vancouver), Friday, 21 February 2020 18:35 (four years ago) link
I agree with that. Their hyper earnest recent campaigning eps, while heartwarming in the sense that it exposes them once again as being huge sentimental softies, aren't really what I'm after, esp as a non-American listener who can't vote in a primary

“‘Chapo Trap House,’ the entire Dirtbag Left, have tapped that male privilege of intimidating people into assuming you’re cool,” said Amanda Marcotte, a liberal feminist writer for Salon. “It reminds me of when we pretended that ‘Jackass’ was funny back in the day, just so dudes wouldn’t bully you about not liking it.”
Can’t say this paints their critics in a great light either, especially contrasted with the dude at their show selling plasma to live.

The constant evoking of “anger” and “rage” as somehow disqualifying a position is such a massive tell. It’s like seeing FB contacts I know post in ways to suggest they think being conflict-averse is somehow a political stance

i think the 'bernie bro' stuff is truer now than it was in 2015/6; the runaway popularity of chapo in the last 3 years has created this enormous long left-tail of unfunny young dudes trying out the mean style in replies but who aren't good at it
