You've got to be one of those psychos on Youtube who orders a $40k Mac Pro to showcase how good it is at editing videos about reviewing $40k Mac Pros.
finally their prosumer niche has to actually be pro and a sumer

‘SINCERELY LOUIS C.K.’ ★
The funniest stand-up special I’ve seen in years. Religion, sexual misconduct — you know, good clean family fun. And, yes, he talks about the whole you-know-what.

best part? That "and, yes" bit was an edit, maybe added after publishing? My RSS reader shows updates.

Saw he ended a post about some anti-mask agitators in Utah with the judgment that they’re all “stupid” which is just phenomenal on his part, not eugenicist at all

They’re all stupid sorry
― carin' (map), Saturday, 18 July 2020 16:17 (three years ago) link
If I have one article of faith it’s that “people are stupid” and “these people are stupid” are poor explanations for anything
― all cats are beautiful (silby), Saturday, 18 July 2020 16:23 (three years ago) link
i hear you, i've been thinking a lot about it lately. i want to not believe in the concept of stupidity but i find it pretty difficult. like i think it's obviously meant to be belittling so that part of it is .. stupid lol .. and not really insightful if the goal is to understand someone's behavior. in the case of john gruber it says more about him than the subject. on the other hand i think that people definitely get some sort of validation from performing stupidity. my experience with this group of utah valley mormons is that there is a certain faction that functions and bonds together through performances of stupidity.. i.e. ignoring and rejecting behaviors that are outside the bounds of their magical thinking belief systems. it reinforces group identity and the local hierarchy. even if these people are smart in other ways - they obviously possess some kind of native intelligence and range of cognitive skills if they're existing day to day - they are being stupid here: performing stupidity. i'm sorry but that's absolutely what they're doing and ultimately i think it's disingenuous and condescending not to be forthright about what their behavior is. it's being stupid. they love it and get off on it, it performs a function for them.

“Acting stupid” vs “being stupid” is a useful distinction here that I hadn’t really considered, thanks.

Very OTM in this rant:
Just because there is now a multi-billion-dollar industry based on the abject betrayal of our privacy doesn’t mean the sociopaths who built it have any right whatsoever to continue getting away with it. They talk in circles but their argument boils down to entitlement: they think our privacy is theirs for the taking because they’ve been getting away with taking it without our knowledge, and it is valuable. No action Apple can take against the tracking industry is too strong.

I love my HomePods, but clearly the market deemed them too expensive. I think part of the problem is that the real HomePod experience is having two of them paired — they sound more than twice as good as a single HomePod. So to get the real HomePod experience, it’s $600 (and used to be $700).
