i didn't like steamworld heist because the missions are procedurally generated so they're kinda samey and there's no sense of good encounter design

ciderpress, Saturday, 28 March 2020 13:09 (four years ago) link

also mario and rabbids goes on deep sale all the time anyway

Difficulty levels aside, Cuphead, Hollow Knight and Ori are how you do Switch ports right. They're absolutely gorgeous and, by many accounts, are better optimized for this system than any others. If all games looked and played this good, I would buy all games. Thank goodness, then, that few games are this good. Personally tired of all the pixel-y games, though, however good, which is why I only finished Shovel Knight and didn't play its sequels, or why (aside from difficulty) I didn't really return to Celeste, great as both of those games objectively are.

fwiw my kids, who played a bit of Odyssey but have been watching me play Dark Souls 3, have warned me that Odyssey will seem really easy after that. Probably!

I want to play Dark Souls 3 so badly but only own Nintendo products. I also want to replay certain Wii titles that I wish were ported to Switch-- Mario Galaxy and Galaxy 2, for example; Resident Evil 4, also

I finished Mario Osyssey and I still can't do that jump-throw-hat-dive-repeat thing that all the speedrunners do. Can any of you guys do that?

DJI, Saturday, 28 March 2020 21:52 (four years ago) link

i can only do it once, the cap always disappears on the second go

Picked up Rabbids on sale for 15 bucks. Thought I might not like it at all, but I'm currently really enjoying it. Definitely worth the $15.

Dating a new girl who introduced me to Unravel Two, which was great fun. We just reached all the bonus levels. Platforming feels good and clean, though there are moments of jank. Play provided a ton of laughs, and skill gaps between players are remedied with the ability to pull each other up to platforms if one person succeeds and the other gets tired of trying. We tried some of the hardest bonus levels and couldn't get near solving them. I think we'll continue to put time into them.

rabbids shouldn't be as good as it is but it's very solid.

the DK bit is also great

Nudeln und Klopapier Gore (Sufjan Grafton), Sunday, 29 March 2020 19:45 (four years ago) link

Rabbids is underrated, would love a Splatoon themed version of it

( X '____' )/ (zappi), Sunday, 29 March 2020 19:46 (four years ago) link

I def want Splatoon Tactics in some form

silby, Sunday, 29 March 2020 21:27 (four years ago) link

i played about 5 hours into rabbids, but was started to get a little bored, like that i was still on the tutorial, almost. and the power-ups / skill progression seemed really railroaded.

i'm not looking for it to be a super advanced tactics sim or anything, but does it ever open up a bit or get more complex?

Karl Malone, Sunday, 29 March 2020 21:29 (four years ago) link

like that i was still on the tutorial, almost.

by this i don't mean that it was super easy (although it wasn't hard), more that it felt like i was still being introduced to major concepts of the game that far in

Karl Malone, Sunday, 29 March 2020 21:30 (four years ago) link

It does eventually at least start requiring making right decisions rather than wrong ones to win missions.

silby, Sunday, 29 March 2020 21:31 (four years ago) link

nice! i'll probably jump in at some point, if/when the animal crossing obsession rubs off. i am 100% ACNH right now

Karl Malone, Sunday, 29 March 2020 21:39 (four years ago) link

Have spent the past couple of hours playing co-op Good Job! and haven't laughed so hard at anything for a long time.

Mordy, Monday, 30 March 2020 17:04 (four years ago) link

same, ive never played them other than the first couple hours of 1

ciderpress, Monday, 30 March 2020 17:14 (four years ago) link

maybe more than a couple hours actually but i dont think i got more than halfway

ciderpress, Monday, 30 March 2020 17:15 (four years ago) link

while i'm making a wishlist can i get frostpunk + disco elysium on switch too

Mordy, Monday, 30 March 2020 17:15 (four years ago) link

i'm still waiting on pyre

ciderpress, Monday, 30 March 2020 17:25 (four years ago) link

are any of their games on the switch? they all seem like perfect games for it. bastion and transistor too

Mordy, Monday, 30 March 2020 17:27 (four years ago) link

it's such an amazing device for indie games i hope it becomes fashionable for most of them to come out on it i'd pretty much rather play any indie game on switch than pc or ps4.

Mordy, Monday, 30 March 2020 17:28 (four years ago) link

yikes sorry 4 doublepost

Mordy, Monday, 30 March 2020 17:28 (four years ago) link

they put bastion and transistor on already a while ago which is why ive been holding out on playing pyre elsewhere but theres no sign of it

ciderpress, Monday, 30 March 2020 17:34 (four years ago) link

i think the majority of indie games are made with switch in mind now anyway, the stuff you posted about are just very PC-ey genres that need a second UI/controls pass to work on consoles which indie studios can't always afford to do until they have some revenue from the pc version

ciderpress, Monday, 30 March 2020 17:36 (four years ago) link

frostpunk did get a ps4 release and i think disco elysium is slated for the same. i wonder how much work it is to port them to switch after ps4 assuming the UI/controls stuff is probably mostly worked out. graphics stuff i'd guess?

Mordy, Monday, 30 March 2020 17:43 (four years ago) link

porting to a lower spec platform involves a lot of QA work i'd think

ciderpress, Monday, 30 March 2020 17:45 (four years ago) link

For Switch you'd have to be concerned about performance on portable vs. docked as well, text sizes.

Nhex, Monday, 30 March 2020 20:23 (four years ago) link

i wish to play the marios

lag∞n, Monday, 30 March 2020 21:20 (four years ago) link
