WOW I applied for the self-employed wage subsidy from the NZ government earlier this afternoon, and got a notification it's been paid just now, literally *hours later*

frogbs, Wednesday, 15 April 2020 13:58 (four years ago) link

I got mine this morning. To the credit card bill it goes!

Mr. Snrub, Wednesday, 15 April 2020 14:04 (four years ago) link

got mine but it's a weird amount. originally thought we wouldn't get anything then realized it was based off taxable income, not gross; but what I received was $1,988.55 which is about $1k less than I'd assumed we'd get (married, one kid). Maybe it decreases the higher the income before it cuts off entirely?

akm, Wednesday, 15 April 2020 14:05 (four years ago) link

Yes -- this morning. The full amount. It's going toward the Campari fund.

TikTok to the (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 15 April 2020 14:06 (four years ago) link

apparently there is a maximum number of times you an try and enter your direct deposit info on the IRS website and you get locked out for 24 hours (just happened to me...) so... there you go

Its big ball chunky time (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Wednesday, 15 April 2020 14:11 (four years ago) link

akm:

Eligible individuals with adjusted gross income up to $75,000 for single filers, $112,500 for head of household filers and $150,000 for married filing jointly are eligible for the full $1,200 for individuals and $2,400 married filing jointly. In addition, they are eligible for an additional $500 per qualifying child.

For filers with income above those amounts, the payment amount is reduced by $5 for each $100 above the $75,000/$112,500/$150,000 thresholds. Single filers with income exceeding $99,000, $136,500 for head of household filers and $198,000 for joint filers with no children are not eligible and will not receive payments.

Nhex, Wednesday, 15 April 2020 14:24 (four years ago) link

not to speak out of school but if my math is right your joint file is a little under $170k?

Nhex, Wednesday, 15 April 2020 14:27 (four years ago) link

found the same thing....yeah, from what I recall (I didn't do taxes for this year yet, so this was last year). I'm still not sure why it's such a weird amount though and not something rounded off and normal. 55 cents, really?
anyway luckily this was direct deposited so I do not have to see the president's serial killer scrawl

calzino, Wednesday, 15 April 2020 15:04 (four years ago) link

Haven't filed taxes yet (pretty sure we owe this year, instead of expecting a refund as usual). But because we got a refund last year, our direct deposit info was already on file. It seems to have arrived last night or early this morning.

I didn't quite understand the amount but whatevs

Gonna divide it among charities unless some unexpected curveball hits us in the next two weeks

Yeah, I've maintained my regular work life through all this (I telecommute already), but I'm not rich and barely even comfortable, so $1200 goes a hell of a long way.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 15 April 2020 16:02 (four years ago) link

Went to the IRS Get My Payment site this morning... IRS doesn't have my direct deposit info (they should, I got my refund for tax year 2018 via DD) but their update banking info form crashes if the amount owed/amount refunded on your tax return is zero... and for 2019, that's what mine is. Oh well, maybe I'll get a paper check this summer sometime.

A million times yes but only until one of us has a health emergency w/o insurance. o__O

Due to totally unpredictable circumstances I'm banking money even making my usual monthly donations plus throwing money at causes that cross my soc med. Think I'm gonna give it away a la silby. It's true I have no idea how long I'm going to be out of work so there's def an argument about saving for later, but there are more ppl who don't have the necessities for survival right now.

If people are still unable to work in July, I doubt this one payment in April/May will endear anyone to Trump that much. They're still going to be in dire straits.

I checked the IRS site and it said I qualify for it, but they don't have my direct deposit info even though I've e-filed for years. Go to step 2, which is entering 2019 AGI, refund amount, tracking and routing. Site says "your info doesn't match our info, gtfo." I email my tax preparer, who actually said "maybe the internet is slow" to me.

March 31st -- it is possible that it isn't in their system. Were you due a refund for the year and if so, have you received it?

For only $15.99 a month you can get a box of tax forms shipped to your home! We select the forms and publications we think you will love.

sarahell, Friday, 24 April 2020 18:53 (four years ago) link

n.b. back in the day, if you signed up to take the IRS Enrolled Agent Exam (basically the equivalent of the bar exam for tax professionals), you could check a box and request exam study materials free of charge. I did this, this was back in 2003. They sent two large boxes of just about every single tax form and publication to my home.

sarahell, Friday, 24 April 2020 18:55 (four years ago) link

For anyone who was getting error 109 trying to enter zero owed/zero refunded on the bank account info page, looks like they fixed it last night. I was able to complete the process just now. Give it a try.

^^^ thanks! Mine went through. I filed jointly with my wife so I'm not sure if both went through. I tried doing the same process with her SSN and birthdate and it went to a Logged Out screen so maybe?

herds of unmasked cletuses (WmC), Saturday, 25 April 2020 19:29 (four years ago) link

hmm, sounds like it might still have you logged in with your own account... I'd fire up an incognito window in your browser and try to enter her info again.

avellano medio inglés (f. hazel), Saturday, 25 April 2020 20:53 (four years ago) link

herds of unmasked cletuses (WmC), Saturday, 25 April 2020 22:06 (four years ago) link

result! sounds like the turnaround is 1-2 weeks for direct deposits once you enter your info

avellano medio inglés (f. hazel), Saturday, 25 April 2020 22:18 (four years ago) link

Sweet, I think it actually worked. And I know it's just a coincidence that I hit 'submit' and immediately received two spam emails under my primary address which is generally entirely spam-free, I know that it must be a coincidence but still.

Finally got my payment. The 2-week turnaround after entering your info seems to be the case. I told myself and others I'm banking this money in anticipation of traveling when the social distancing guidelines relax.

avellano medio inglés (f. hazel), Wednesday, 6 May 2020 17:43 (three years ago) link

I know a lot of frustrated grad students who filed with foreign addresses in 2018/2019 and now can't even get past the verification screen.

avellano medio inglés (f. hazel), Wednesday, 6 May 2020 17:48 (three years ago) link

xp- that's how they normally process tax refunds (in batches once a week), so that is a very good guess

cleared by direct deposit yesterday.

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Wednesday, 6 May 2020 18:09 (three years ago) link

Arrived via direct deposit today. Now we get to start pushing it out to some places where we know it is needed: some of it to people we know, some to non-profits like the food bank.
