Loved listening to this, great work everyone. Especially like all the nice vocals, I found a lot of the singing very soothing for my soul.

(irl lol listening to "A Gift From Heaven" !)

Yeah my wife and I just had a good laugh listening to that

Exciting to be featured alongside so much weird wonderful music. Think Humaniora is my favorite at the moment, but great stuff all around, feels like a really effective snapshot of the current moment. Thanks for doing this imago!

Vaguely Threatening CAPTCHAs, Friday, 24 April 2020 17:12 (three years ago) link

No problem, and receiving your own at the last minute, reminiscent of Grandaddy at their best (and Of Montreal in the bridge) was a delightful surprise! Plus it meant that two of us had done bird songs...

(Would you believe that Humaniora is the first song tt has ever made? Ever? And entirely unassisted?)

imago, Friday, 24 April 2020 17:16 (three years ago) link

Yeah Humaniora’s is also one of my favourites for now. It reminds me a little of early Grimes !

AlXTC from Paris, Friday, 24 April 2020 17:50 (three years ago) link

She's got a great voice.

The Corbynite Maneuver (Tom D.), Friday, 24 April 2020 17:58 (three years ago) link

It is a really strong compilation album that is very professionally put together by each artist (and well-sequenced). 19/10! Atm I'm particularly enjoying Vaguely Threatening CAPTCHAs' very poignant, hazy melodies, esby's sick kraut-shoegaze opus, Nasty, Brutish and Short's psychedelic Death in June-y jam, and m bison's dark Miami synthpop. I'm also very partial to imago's Wire-esque songwriting. But honestly, it all sounds great to me, even things that genre-wise wouldn't normally reach me.

Thank you for the nice comments! Ironically our Grimes compilation contribution was not good haha.

tangenttangent, Friday, 24 April 2020 21:31 (three years ago) link

Cheers for putting this together, LJ. Just starting to listen to it all now...

ive had a difficult time explaining what my electronic music is, and "dark miami synthpop" is v good

methinks dababy doth bop shit too much (m bison), Friday, 24 April 2020 22:02 (three years ago) link

Ha! I think I like "psychedelic Death in June-y jam" too, but I need to investigate in Death in June first to be sure.

Like the bassline to Tombot's tune

Actually, I like a lot of this compilation

Really digging the Lumen track. Ecstatic vibes.

Thanks for putting it all together imago!

LJ deserves significant kudos for wrangling this together. I promise to try and listen to the whole thing tomorrow.

El Tomboto, Saturday, 25 April 2020 03:05 (three years ago) link

really liking Lumen's motorik-to-infinity!

Elvis Telecom, Saturday, 25 April 2020 03:48 (three years ago) link

I’m really liking this. So much of it feels cinematic, and not just because I’ve been cooped up all this time, I promise.

There is talk of a bonus EP for those who missed the boat, btw (or those with more to give...)

imago, Saturday, 25 April 2020 12:11 (three years ago) link

Just submitted one for the bonus EP. Listening to this now and wow, these songs are amazing and I’m not sure mine will measure up in quality. Also, holy shit @ lumen’s!

epistantophus, Saturday, 25 April 2020 23:26 (three years ago) link

thank you for loving esby :)

lumen (esby), Sunday, 26 April 2020 00:36 (three years ago) link

We are officially accepting submissions from stragglers (and repeat offenders) for a follow-up EP...

imago, Wednesday, 6 May 2020 10:06 (three years ago) link

I've only just listened to this for the first time and wow it's quality, some choice cuts and an amazing diversity and range, as ever.

Mar3snest let me know when your neo-classical ambient album is pick of the week at Boomkat :)

Just listening to it, great stuff so far. I was hoping this whole lockdown situation would finally give me some time to record but it really hasn't worked out that way at all...

Siegbran, Wednesday, 6 May 2020 14:44 (three years ago) link

What's the deadline for the special edition EP?

epistantophus, Tuesday, 19 May 2020 22:49 (three years ago) link

I'm sure I'll be able to come up with something.

Is Lou Reed a Good Singer? (Tom D.), Tuesday, 19 May 2020 22:52 (three years ago) link

imago - would you have any interest in uploading the ILX aphex twin covers compilation to that bandcamp? it seems like a more stable location for it than my personal soundcloud, which is where it lives right now

na (NA), Wednesday, 20 May 2020 16:26 (three years ago) link

email me the WAVs and I'll give it a go! :)

imago, Wednesday, 20 May 2020 16:28 (three years ago) link

I could chuck another one of mine in your direction if you want

imago, Sunday, 31 May 2020 16:41 (three years ago) link

Thanks for putting this together, Imago.

These are great! Especially love SV's beautiful, opaque electronica.

Maresn3st, Monday, 1 June 2020 11:56 (three years ago) link

Yes, great work all round.

Is Lou Reed a Good Singer? (Tom D.), Monday, 1 June 2020 12:29 (three years ago) link

Finally getting round to listening to the original compilation and it's great! I tend to gravitate to the electronic/ambient pieces (love Tom, Lumen and ShariVari's) but good stuff all round.

Got to think of a theme. 'Mindless hedonism as we surge out of lockdown' might be an approximation of it

class project pat (m bison), Thursday, 15 April 2021 00:28 (three years ago) link

Came up with some good ideas for this, some guitar parts, lyrics, a basic concept, but may need to get some gear fixed up and/or purchased to fully realize it.

Mr. Cacciatore (Moodles), Thursday, 15 April 2021 06:45 (three years ago) link

you have time

imago, Thursday, 15 April 2021 07:39 (three years ago) link

So, when is this going to be officially opened?

Mark G, Thursday, 15 April 2021 08:08 (three years ago) link

might start a thread

imago, Thursday, 15 April 2021 08:25 (three years ago) link

Good idea

Maresn3st, Thursday, 15 April 2021 08:42 (three years ago) link

you have time

I know, but I only get shit like this done when I'm actively interested and have momentum, and that unfortunately dissipates quickly for me.

Mr. Cacciatore (Moodles), Thursday, 15 April 2021 12:19 (three years ago) link

Cool, I already have an idea for this !
Basically, at this point in my life, my inspiration/motivation to make new music depends entirely on ILX projects... So if I get this done, it will be my only song since ILX7. 1 song/year. sad (especially since I've been more or less in lockdown/WFH since march 2020 with PLENTY of time !).

AlXTC from Paris, Thursday, 15 April 2021 15:44 (three years ago) link

haa, I'm more or less in the same boat

Mr. Cacciatore (Moodles), Thursday, 15 April 2021 15:47 (three years ago) link

lol Thirded....

Elvis Telecom, Thursday, 15 April 2021 20:01 (three years ago) link

the solution is to start an ILX house band

Mr. Cacciatore (Moodles), Thursday, 15 April 2021 20:43 (three years ago) link

I've been reflecting lately that a lot of my lack of productivity stems from being answerable only to myself. I'd probably be much better off collaborating with people.
