Do the Drag Race producers not know about Jeff Goldblum's reputation, or do they not care, I wonder?

trishyb, Saturday, 25 April 2020 10:31 (three years ago) link

Crossed my mind more than once. Did make the sauciness feel more like sleaziness.

As for Secret Celebrity etc. etc., fine, an amusing fillip, but sure seemed like something that would have worked better as a short standalone thing later in the year just to stretch out the brand a bit while nothing is being filmed at all. Also having to stay awake until 11:30 even on a Friday did my head in.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 25 April 2020 15:11 (three years ago) link

Having only seen Nico in (hot) photos up to now, finally seeing him in (perpetual) motion was ... yeah, the crush is tempered somewhat.

Vegemite Is My Grrl (Eric H.), Saturday, 25 April 2020 15:38 (three years ago) link

And, yes, Widow was flailing to be sure. But for a judge to actually explicitly call out the quality The Vixen was fighting so hard against made my ears perk up.

Vegemite Is My Grrl (Eric H.), Saturday, 25 April 2020 15:42 (three years ago) link

xpost yeahhhh I thought that was a little...I don't know if gauche is the word, but chancy, or at least, oddly singled out.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 25 April 2020 15:49 (three years ago) link

“Look over there!”

Vegemite Is My Grrl (Eric H.), Saturday, 25 April 2020 16:10 (three years ago) link

Jackie Cox being told her joke was too repetitive while Jaida got a pass for doing the exact same thing twice really annoyed me

boxedjoy, Saturday, 25 April 2020 20:22 (three years ago) link

Also i have never seen Jeff Goldblum in anything so I don't really *get* what the deal is there but the whole episode being deferential to his appearance was a real buzzkill

boxedjoy, Saturday, 25 April 2020 20:37 (three years ago) link

I get the sense that if Jackie had had more than one schtick the judges would've complained that she was all over the place and needed to focus her jokes more.

Same. I thought she did pretty good. I was surprised Heidi was safe. She was barely shown in the debate at all, which made me think she didn't do so well.

LeRooLeRoo, Sunday, 26 April 2020 14:31 (three years ago) link

Maybe she had a lot of interaction with Sherrie that had to be chopped.

trishyb, Monday, 27 April 2020 17:32 (three years ago) link

Last night's episode was kinda sweet, as in earnest, in the best way. And of course it had to end that way. Daisy was a fun judge.

WAAAAY better Super Celebrity episode too, thank goodness. And the second We're Here was engaging as well.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 2 May 2020 20:01 (three years ago) link

Such a great episode & the untucked was v lovely too

All the feels!!

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 2 May 2020 20:36 (three years ago) link

For a season that started indifferently for me, I would have no problem with anyone* winning. The queens still around all have something that stands out for them that could take them all the way.

LOVED the superfans, and even before that lipsync I was thinking that an episode involving them should not end in an elimination. Glad to see both Heidi and Jackie make it another week, I couldn't imagine this season without either of them.

Obviously Jaida dotted her i's and crossed her t's and earned the win (and she has been on fire), but Opal charmed the hell out of me. If you blink when she's on stage, you could easily forget which one was the drag queen and which one was the superfan. JTP too performed the hell out of her routine too.

Judd Apatowsaurus (Leee), Saturday, 2 May 2020 22:10 (three years ago) link

PS I hope that Afrodite is the name that Heidi finally settles on, though I bet there's still some juice left in this running gag.

Judd Apatowsaurus (Leee), Saturday, 2 May 2020 22:12 (three years ago) link

Yeah otm I love all these queens

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 2 May 2020 22:35 (three years ago) link

Ep 2 of Celebrity Drag Race was def better than ep 1. Loved all three of these women, they did so great. Vanessa announcing her drag name is Vanquisha slaaaaaaayed me i could not breathe
so great

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 2 May 2020 22:37 (three years ago) link

Agreed that the remaining queens (Sherry I guess being Sherry) are all pretty great. Hell, why have a season finale at this point, it would have to be some weird remote thing anyway. In any event I am glad this is stretching out for, presumably, at least two more weeks of episodes, if not three.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 3 May 2020 00:52 (three years ago) link

Good gravy, they're really going the Project Runway route with an All-Stars EVERY YEAR.

You'd think networks might want to start keeping a few aces in their sleeves for the years to come.

Vegemite Is My Grrl (Eric H.), Friday, 8 May 2020 17:13 (three years ago) link

lol at the YT comment saying, more or less

Derek: On my season I fell into the Britney box.
Also Derek: *walks into workroom in extremely famous Britney look*

Vegemite Is My Grrl (Eric H.), Friday, 8 May 2020 17:27 (three years ago) link

xpost I mean as I muttered re Super Celebrity, you pile it all on now when nobody's sure when 'Hollywood' as such starts working again and that'll leave you high and dry sooner rather than later.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 8 May 2020 17:31 (three years ago) link

And I am STILL unclear exactly how the finale for this season is supposed to happen.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 8 May 2020 17:31 (three years ago) link

Well, I think Prince would have enjoyed that lipsync. I really liked this episode. The choice of winner was 100% correct.

trishyb, Saturday, 9 May 2020 09:57 (three years ago) link

Yes to all of the above !

I've heard they filmed the reunion on Zoom. Not sure if that means the finale too.

LeRooLeRoo, Saturday, 9 May 2020 19:53 (three years ago) link

Whoopi <3

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 9 May 2020 19:57 (three years ago) link

Yeah that was a pretty solid episode. I am still sad to see Heidi go, she's just so frickin' FUNNY. Ah well.

Super Celebrity this time not as good as ep 2 but still good. 3rd We're Here a very interesting one.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 9 May 2020 20:44 (three years ago) link

Sherry was doing some subliminal messaging between being a cat and a fish

boxedjoy, Saturday, 9 May 2020 20:46 (three years ago) link

I loved all the things Ru said to Heidi during gbe elimination. That queen is really somethin! I loved Crystal’s character, so fuckin funny & weird & awesome.

I quite enjoyed this Celebrity Drag episode too

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 9 May 2020 21:06 (three years ago) link

The celebrities all killed the roast and the lipsynch !

I will miss Heidi too. She should be so proud. She's got to be a lock for Miss Congeniality.

LeRooLeRoo, Saturday, 9 May 2020 23:10 (three years ago) link

And AllStars

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 10 May 2020 02:20 (three years ago) link

OK that Ru Roast really was all killer no filler.

Unlike the faces on the judges' panel.

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 10 May 2020 23:13 (three years ago) link

Good mentor lineup for the final episode next week too; if that sticks the landing then I can see why they put the first episode where they did because lord that sucked.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 10 May 2020 23:16 (three years ago) link

Anyway, Shangela gets a Texas Monthly profile, as is deserved:

Nice little "lucky bitches" shout-out to the classic French & Saunders sketch.

trishyb, Saturday, 16 May 2020 10:03 (three years ago) link

That was a little TOO much Rusical but.

Am mildly surprised they didn’t just have Jackie be part of the actual top four for the next couple of episodes but here we are.

Final Secret Celebrity was fun! But I’m glad I don’t have to stay up to 11:30 anymore.

And separately We’re Here continues carving out its own interesting space. Two episodes to go.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 16 May 2020 13:16 (three years ago) link

The very start of the episode, where Jaida came stalking back into the workroom in her amazing dress, and just want to say again I don't think she got enough props for how she managed to effortlessly honour Whoopi and Prince together in one look.

trishyb, Saturday, 16 May 2020 18:52 (three years ago) link

Her runway look this episode was INCREDIBLE. Carson’s Nolan Miller comment was on the money. Plus I think in addition to having an amazing drag career after this, she should be tapped to create gowns for Ru, she’s at that level of impeccableness imo.

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 16 May 2020 19:15 (three years ago) link

Surely she's the front runner to win. Nothing against the other two.

Also, LOL at the very start of the episode where the warm Heidi thoughts are flowing and...the lights go out.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 16 May 2020 20:10 (three years ago) link

"Condragulations to my final four! Who do you want to be America's next drag superstar? Are you Team Crystal? Team Gigi? Or Team Jaida?"

So buttons. (Leee), Saturday, 16 May 2020 22:11 (three years ago) link

I realized watching this Untucked that I just dont like Gigi Goode. Love her looks, sure - but she just seems so insincere all the time

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 16 May 2020 22:52 (three years ago) link

Jamal Sims was a TERRIBLE coach in that episode. Absolutely nothing to offer but vague platitudes about energy. Also my eyes hurt at Carson's outfit.

Crystal is really endearing but just isn't good enough to beat Jaida at this. Gigi would be a fine winner, dully competent I guess, if they're going to give the prize to another white slim young fashion queen then they might as well forego any pretence of casting any diversity for the next season.

boxedjoy, Sunday, 17 May 2020 09:54 (three years ago) link

I was genuinely surprised they didn't read Crystal over her boots on the runway. They were not good.

trishyb, Sunday, 17 May 2020 18:13 (three years ago) link

They usually seem incapable of doing anything other than fawn for the last challenge episode.

Vegemite Is My Grrl (Eric H.), Sunday, 17 May 2020 23:19 (three years ago) link

Reunion was fun. But what I wouldn't give for the obviously-never-going-to-be-broadcast chat they all must have had about Sherry. (A true level of nonpersoning at this point.).

Did love that Lisa Renna -- and Harry -- have a good sense of humor.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 23 May 2020 14:34 (three years ago) link

Meantime so we're getting the next All Stars, Canadian Drag Race in July, new season of Werq the World and Race Chaser discussed a rumor that Drag Race UK already filmed season 2 so I guess we'll have plenty of CONTENT to tide us over?

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 23 May 2020 14:35 (three years ago) link

Anyway, fully deserving winner, but they were all good -- I suspect if Yvie hadn't won last year Crystal might have been in but there ya go. Not a bad way to handle the episode all around and the individual lipsync choices were all killer.
