what we need is a new push notification every two days to remind us to switch it to latest tweets. and in that notification, they might as well go ahead and embed some top tweets, since you're already looking

I get emails from Twitter with tweets from the same account (which I don't follow!) every day or so. No idea why.

McDonald's has a really rude bot. I posted a really, really old McDonald's commercial to YouTube. I didn't even criticize McDonald's. I didn't use a hashtag. There wasn't even the word "McDonald's" in my tweet. All I said was that their fries have changed dramatically over the years. And I get this bot tweet, "please fill out this form with your concerns". How Orwellian and creepy.

I complained about a costcutter on twitter because they were charging £5 for a little bag of penne, since then their social media person has been asking me which one it was, but I just wanted to whinge, not to snitch, so am ignoring it.

switching on and off the algorithm taught me that the difference between 'latest tweets' and algo is minimal. also, if u folllow ppl from the uk or australia, the algo shows you their best tweets in the morning

Now please tell me if I'm wrong here, but doesn't flooding a hashtag actually make it trend? So what they are doing is actually bumping racist hashtags AND subjecting us to more of those inexplicable gifs? Am I wrong about this or is it actually as stupid as I think?

I still use the website and have set it to show Berlin trends and saw WhiteLivesMatter at the top of that list earlier - didn't actually click it just assumed it was 20% bot stampede and 80% horrified reaction.

was it though? it suddenly appeared right at the top of my trending topics and was already full of the gifs. I guess perhaps it was pushed up there by bots or w/e in one location, then the flooding made it trend everywhere.

Flooding a hashtag with posts that have nothing to do with the hashtag is just fighting fire with fire, it’s a known troll farm tactic and is also used by psyops pros (OK, same diff)

the posts get promoted, they make less sense (and clog up the space for anyone interested in making functional use of the hashtag), fewer people who see them mimic the behavior or redirect it into their own networks - it's like gresham's law but for when you actually want the good money to be driven out by the bad

so Twitter puts the little blue notification for on the app icon if there are any new tweets in your timeline, huh. that's helpful

you guys it's so much worse than any of us thought... I clicked a tweet in a thread and swear to god it took me to a place with many more tweets... tens of thousands of tweets, and each one more horrifying than the last. a veritable living nightmare. i fear that with these reserves at hand, tweets will soon outnumber posts by an insurmountable margin
