hm, the This Heat box arrived and it’s a black card box with an inkjet of the front and back covers stuck on by hand. CDs and book are all present and correct, but it’s not the box they showed on the site. I guess I’m glad to support them though. As long as it *is* them of course.

That's a bit shoddy. Is the version you have on Discogs? I'd feel inclined to add it so people know.

I've wondered in the past about some reissues with no real indication they're legit. Anyone know how much checking there is behind the scenes for that sort of thing?
(There are two editions of Abfahrt Hinwil - Links Berge Rechts Seen on bandcamp and I guess I should not be a cheapskate even though I only want a digital copy and buy the one with more "deluxe anniversary vinyl repressing" type details rather than the cheaper electronic-only one with no blurb, just to be slightly more sure some of my cash is going to the right people.
Also a couple of years back a bandcamp popped up promising Solid Space Space Museum vinyl preorders and it was frustrating because I wanted one but up to that point word had been that the people involved didn't want anything to do with it and it would never see the light of day officially, and I didn't want to give money to bootleggers - I passed on it and happily it now has a legit reissue through Dark Entries)

i posted this to my twitter as part of soundslike's dealio, but i'll reup it here too in the name of being thorough: https://windimoto.bandcamp.com/album/dvs-4-alderman-bandcamp-exclusive-expanded-edition — it's awesome chicago hiphop by a bunch of guys who just love the music. my friend greg (treblefree) did a chunk of the production on it and he's one of the tightest hiphop producers i've ever heard. i'm not just saying because i know him; his stuff is extremely top gear.
also check the other releases on the proper windimoto bandcamp for some bubbling house grooves: https://windimoto.bandcamp.com
he passed away a couple years ago, but sean haley's solo album is still worthwhile and he was a chicago icon: https://windimoto.bandcamp.com/album/ronin-the-journey-of-the-lost-warrior
i feel like a shitheel for posting this because i make an appearance on the album, but you can get treblefree's super fun hiphop album from many years back. it's just a lot of detroit and chicago guys doing what they love: https://treblefree.bandcamp.com/album/the-return-of-the-dirty-cymbals (he also has a few other archival kind of things posted)
there's also treblefree and dvs' collaborative group, waldorf & statler. my favorite thing of theirs is Nigga I Know James!!! which is made up of all james brown samples. super fun stuff, but they have most of the releases on free download, obviously to avoid any legalities. but they do have volume four on name your price, if you feel so compelled.
anyway. long post. sorry.

My list today - definitely The Bathers' Lagoon Blues, maybe rebuys of their Sunpowder and Kelvingrove Baby albums. Loscil's coast/range/arc for an extra track and different art. A new Notwist 3 track EP called Ship and Styrofoam's Political Songs release. Will listen to the Spirit Fest albums (Notwist & Tenniscoats members) to maybe buy one or more. Think that's all on my immediate radar.

https://spiritfest.bandcamp.com/ - only found out about this side-project when the Ship EP was released. Kind of fills what they've been doing in the empty years between recent Notwist albums. Three albums and some singles.
With “Mirage Mirage“, avant-pop quintet Spirit Fest gifts their listeners with their richest, deepest record to date. It’s no surprise when you consider the group’s membership: Saya and Ueno, aka the duo Tenniscoats; Markus Acher, best known as singer of The Notwist; Mat Fowler, who plays with Jam Money and Bons; and Cico Beck, who’s making music with Joasinho, Aloa Input & The Notwist. If that feels like a heavyweight line-up, that’s because it is – yet the overarching mood of Spirit Fest is one of lightness and joy, of experiment and pure pop pleasure.

I also said I'd spend less this time round and then I already bought a bundle of physical CDs to be shipped from the US. Hope to buy a handful more digital albums too but nothing specific in mind as yet.
Last time round I bought mainly older stuff, some of which I'd been listening to for years so it seemed like time to go legit (Dryft - "Cell", Abfahrt Hinwil "Links Berge Rechts Seen" which got reissued but I couldn't quite justify the glossy vinyl since my record deck is broken, some Dark Entries reissues: Victrola, Solid Space, Lives of Angels), so thinking of going with mostly new stuff this time round.
Thanks for the Notwist-related recs - will take a listen.

Also, sorry, I already plugged this on an IDM thread where the artist had been mentioned previously, but while I'm here...
ilkae has his/their entire discography of offkilter electronic (I hate describing music, too bad for posting on ILM) at only $9.15 for Bandcamp Friday and is in a bad housing situation at present so any $$ will help out:https://ilkae.bandcamp.com/
comments from other bandcamp listeners who apparently hate writing blurbs less than I do: "squiggly, streaky grooves" "strong beats" "melancholy melodies" "a fucking masterpiece" "got me into drawing utility poles"

I've been financially unable to continue the "buy people music by Black artists on Bandcamp Day" effort--but a very cool music publication Hullaballoo has picked up the baton last month, and again this month:
hey team (tommy here) we're doin it again - quote rt today with a bandcamp link to a digital album by a black artist you've got your eye on, and we'll pick it up for you! all money goes direct to artists and labels on bandcamp today. we'll pick up the tab on the first 40 qrts! pic.twitter.com/An31cVMvwA— HULLABALOO (@hullytweets) September 4, 2020
They're approaching it a little differently--you retweet sharing the album you want, and they'll buy it for you. Help spread the word about artists, get free music, get artists paid--win, win, win!

I'm not gonna spam this all over ILM, I'm just gonna put it here, this one time, because it fits within the purview of the thread. I've started a label - Burning Ambulance Music - and while our first full releases won't be out until early 2021, I'm launching with a compilation that features exclusive tracks from a bunch of amazing (and amazingly generous) artists:
Mats Gustafsson, Ivo Perelman and Nate Wooley, Matthew Shipp and Whit Dickey, Melvin Gibbs, Burnt Sugar the Arkestra Chamber, Aaron Parks, Melissa Aldana, Dead Neanderthals, Dog Life (feat. Anna Högberg), William Hooker, Jason Kao Hwang, Eric Hofbauer and Garrison Fewell, Matthew Golombisky, and Nick Millevoi.
It's called Eyes Shut, Ears Open, and you can buy it here for $10 (official release date is Friday).
25% of the money will go to the Jazz Foundation of America's Musicians' Emergency Fund, which (as one might expect) helps out jazz musicians who need financial, medical, and housing assistance. The rest will go toward making records.
