Rolling Metal Thread 2009

I ordered the new Woburn House cd from Paradigm Recordings yesterday. Hadn't realised that I hadn't heard much of the last years output by the label.

I was swithering about that, because I wasn't all that bothered about the first one.

Hit me up if you want to try any of last year's releases. (Is it just Bosnia I sent you?)

I liked the 1st Woburn House a lot so I thought id order this one. Monorailmusic haven't been getting in any of the latest releases.

Once i get it i shall return the favour , maybe you will like it.

Anyway, I'm really digging the new 3 Inches of Blood. Endino really plays up the old school metal, the album's really rough around the edges, which is cool ("All of Them Witches" is an awesome song title). And the more Cam Pipes goes on, the more he's starting to sound like Udo Dirkschneider...he's got quite the plegm vibrato going on this record, which is quite surreal at times.

So--at the YOB show in SF, Will Haven was main support. It was Grady's first show back as lead singer (not sure how often this is happening). They were STAGGERINGLY good. So fucking heavy and powerful. Everyone should listen to "Saga" off Carpe Diem right now.

Pentagram had one of the biggest shows Satyricon has ever hosted last night. Way over capacity. Total madness. Bobby Liebling looks like something out the Dark Crystal. Fun time.

Downloading the new 3IOB now and it's taking for-fucking-ever. I know they're sending me CD-quality audio cause it's already at 470MB...how fucking long is this album?

Haha, yeah, it took me six hours to get the 3IOB on light DSL. Great quality mp3s, though, and a very fun album.

It's finally finished. I'm reviewing it for AP, along with the new Shadows Fall. Hope that one's better than...oh, anything else they've ever done.

I always like 3IOB, but they're really turning a corner here, the screams are only sporadic, the metal a little truer, so to speak.

Nice piece Adrien. I think this new YOB is my album of the year at this point. I wish they would come eastward on tour, but I am getting a Bloody Panda/Ocean double bill next month so I shouldn't complain too much.

We are in discussions with Planet Caravan fest in Asheville for Sept 18-19 for possible YOB fly-out. Nothing confirmed yet but there is hope...

which reminds me, I never really listened to the last esoteric album much at all. I should really do that!

it's just weird because subconscious dissolution was probably my most anticipated metal record the year that it came out. (whatever year that was...) and it was really good too. just never got around to the last one!

gonna check out this 3rd and the mortal record too. never heard of that. sounds like it might be up my alley.

Also, listening to new Coalesce right now. Pretty impressive (especially the interludes) but mostly it just makes me wish I was listening to Deadguy instead.

New Dysrhythmia is very good.

Since when did Job For a Cowboy get good??? The new album is shockingly enjoyable, not to mention some pretty catchy death metal. No 'core' in sight on this record.

And the new Behemoth (leaked last night) is ace.

Haven't listened to the new Behemoth front to back yet, but the one song I've had time to check out sounds like a very good Behemoth song, something I can always use more of. And yeah, JFAC have been good for a while. They recorded this one with their live drummer, who's a big improvement over the guy on their last record. The new Born of Osiris is out there too, and I'm enjoying that one quite a bit - it's weirder than their first EP, but not in a trying-to-be-Cephalic-Carnage way or anything; they're just imaginative Sumerian-core. I really like that label's output. Between them and Willowtip, the underground is in really good shape right now.

New Born of Osiris is even better on third and fourth play. Really good stuff. Just downloaded the new Vader, which I'm extremely excited about since they've got the guitar player from Decapitated now. Looking forward to the tour in November.
