betting the line which is not aligned with the outcome of the game is standard instead of the odds which is
I'm not a bettor or a bookie, so this interpretation is based on the logic of an external observer: there are plenty of NBA games where picking the winner is relatively simple and the more games you bet, the more the upsets can get lost in the generally favorable odds of picking the winner 90% of the time.
otoh, betting the line removes the simple element of deciding which team is most likely to win and introduces more variance. Bookies like variance because it allows them to balance the bets placed on either side and gives them more predictable profits, and betters like variance since it gives them the illusion of placing the 'smart' money that outwits the odds makers and collects a bigger payday than merely betting that the Raptors will beat the Hornets. Hey, maybe the Hornets will play the Raptors close enough to beat the line tonight.

3-pt percentage for both teams ended up in a similar place. the celtics had a bad cold stretch at the end of the 3rd on some good looks.you know who sucked in this game, tobias harris sucked.

I really enjoyed Grant Williams’ 2 minute stint where he looked like a teetotaling rodman

lol

tobias being paid like someone who should be putting up 25-8-8 and not 15-8-8... the salary part isn’t his fault i guess but he‘s always kinda left something to be desired and it’s magnified now (having been kept by the sixers instead of jimmy butler, simmons being out)
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 18 August 2020 13:51 (three years ago) link
he just cant get his own shot but would be great playing on a team with guys who can, hes a complimentary player being paid like a star
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 18 August 2020 14:01 (three years ago) link
he’s def closer to a robert covington or prime trevor ariza but being paid the same salary as kawhi and paul george

embiid was gassed after the first quarter
― lag∞n, Monday, August 17, 2020 9:08 PM (yesterday) bookmarkflaglink
The Sixers have to do a better job of getting Embiid involved down the stretch. Simply can't run the late-game offense through Burks and Harris. Here are Embiid's five 4th quarter FGA - Two 3's, two tips and only one true FGA inside the arc. His last made FG was with 11:36 left. pic.twitter.com/FAedoWigCc— Chris Grenham (@chrisgrenham) August 18, 2020

on sportscenter last night they highlighted him on some consecutive possessions down the stretch and he just wasn't making any impact. could barely get the ball
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 18 August 2020 14:41 (three years ago) link
hes so out of shape its been a problem his whole career
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 18 August 2020 14:42 (three years ago) link
you can see how tired he is watching him try to jump multiple times on contested rebounds
― call all destroyer, Tuesday, 18 August 2020 14:42 (three years ago) link
after he scored 11 in the first quarter he didnt even try to get deep position before the catch even tho hes much bigger than everyone the celtics had guarding him he was catching at the elbow then turning the ball over to double teams, or catching at the top and taking 3s
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 18 August 2020 14:44 (three years ago) link
i think both him and philly would benefit from a parting of ways
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 18 August 2020 14:45 (three years ago) link
i do wonder if part of the reason he sets up so high in the post is that the sixers don't have anyone who can throw an entry pass.
― call all destroyer, Tuesday, 18 August 2020 14:46 (three years ago) link
naw he was getting position early and killing it
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 18 August 2020 14:47 (three years ago) link
i think this is something both parties can live with

why do you hate gordo so much
― k3vin k., Tuesday, 18 August 2020 14:50 (three years ago) link
he doesnt have the celtics mindtype
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 18 August 2020 14:51 (three years ago) link
he is a good basketball player tho
yeah part of is structural w/ the sixers... the defense is so compacted around embiid even before the entry pass bcuz the celtics don't care if anyone on philly shoots. but also collectively sixers could find more creative ways to get embiid post touches beyond "dribble the ball down the court slowly and wait for all 10 players to be fully stationary before we attempt an entry pass"

hayward really should be on a team where he can do more hes easily a 20-5-5 second banana its for his own good
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 18 August 2020 14:53 (three years ago) link
yeah hayward was cool on utah where he got to do his wonky key moves and such but on the celtics he's just kinda 'another wing guy'
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 18 August 2020 14:56 (three years ago) link
i'm sure if either brown or tatum hadn't panned out so hard he'd be essential but now he isn't
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 18 August 2020 14:57 (three years ago) link
his playmaking is important for the c's but with tatums game evolving it maybe is becoming a little less so, and the amount paid/talent squandered for that doesnt really make a ton of sense
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 18 August 2020 14:58 (three years ago) link
he missed the one season where he would have been worth the dough
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 18 August 2020 14:59 (three years ago) link
he can opt out after this season if they can sign him to a more reasonable contract then maybe trade him down the road thatd be good
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 18 August 2020 14:59 (three years ago) link
celtics just need a larger man thats all there is to it
