nintendo has not announced anything yet

ciderpress, Tuesday, 25 August 2020 19:36 (three years ago) link

i understand skepticism about BotW 2 release, but i'm optimistic because:

1) nintendo will want some marquee titles to hype when the ps5 and series x are released and gaining traction
2) if they're taking longer to release it, it's probably because they're making sure it's up to previous zelda quality. that's a good thing!

xposts to yesterday, i think

jazzed up mario 64 seems a fait accompli

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Tuesday, 25 August 2020 19:44 (three years ago) link

They're so inscrutable, tbh. It's just so weird that other systems hype things for months, and ... it seems to work out? And Nintendo doesn't, and ... it seems to work out? Except they really have much less to hype, honestly.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 25 August 2020 20:01 (three years ago) link

pre covid there were rumors about botw2 being this year's big holiday release but it seems whatever it was has probably been pushed back if there was no announcement by now. mario rereleases seem more likely

ciderpress, Tuesday, 25 August 2020 20:05 (three years ago) link

It would be kind of nice if Nintendo had a bit more to offer than more re-releases.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 25 August 2020 20:16 (three years ago) link

Hoping for a Mario 3D World reissue tbh. Super Mario Bros U has that shit “you can only save at very rare moments” thing and is too hard for kid to boot.

maybe nintendo are announcing a bunch of new games, but you can't successfully hookup a speaker to hear it?

it's a spicy dinner we're having (Sufjan Grafton), Tuesday, 25 August 2020 20:53 (three years ago) link

If Nintendo releases a new game and I can't hook up a speaker to hear it, does it make a sound?

Answer: yes, just very quietly.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 25 August 2020 21:09 (three years ago) link

the speaker represents the voice inside you that wants you to accept nintendo for what it is and love it. it's a beautiful voice. a voice that wants you to be happy.

you need to call the geek squad and have them setup your speaker so that it is loudest.

the geek squad is drugs btw

presumably you can use that with a VR headset too; seems like a game changer.
They were charging nearly $100 for a box of boxes not too long ago; price seems reasonable to me!

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Thursday, 3 September 2020 14:20 (three years ago) link

wonder if it developed from a series of "mario kart maker" meetings

Is sunshine good? I bought mario 64 for ds lite and never played it.

bogo jumbo boba (Sufjan Grafton), Thursday, 3 September 2020 14:35 (three years ago) link

sunshine is prob the worst of the a1 3d titles, mario moves a lil slow feels kinda gooey, its still good tho

lag∞n, Thursday, 3 September 2020 14:39 (three years ago) link

still waiting for another one w the speed and violence of 64

lag∞n, Thursday, 3 September 2020 14:39 (three years ago) link

lag∞n, Thursday, 3 September 2020 14:44 (three years ago) link

saw someone on youtube talking about how theyre hoping botw 2 is the dark zelda they were hoping for from the first one and its like not everything has to be hardcore and the first one was pretty dark my lord the world is in a tough spot

lag∞n, Thursday, 3 September 2020 14:46 (three years ago) link

Yeah I’d be way more into a not post apocalyptic world this time

rob, Thursday, 3 September 2020 14:47 (three years ago) link

looks like its just gonna be the same world but with underground stuff or something fwiw botw

lag∞n, Thursday, 3 September 2020 14:48 (three years ago) link

as someone mentioned on twitter, weird that Nintendo is explicitly going to the Disney Vault strategy for the Mario 3D All Stars. and it'll work on me, unfortunately! wish Galaxy 2 was in there, i haven't played either of them

Nhex, Thursday, 3 September 2020 14:55 (three years ago) link

i am def going buy the 3d pack baby (but not the 2d (not enough dimensions))

lag∞n, Thursday, 3 September 2020 14:57 (three years ago) link

presumably galaxy 2 will get a stand-alone rerelease before the next gen.
i am confused as to why you wouldn't punch up the 64 graphics further but maybe that's another in the future thing.
i appreciate the freebies on the network!

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Thursday, 3 September 2020 14:57 (three years ago) link

perhaps worth mentioning explicitly as the video didn't make it very clear but Mario All-Stars (not the 3-D one) comes free with Nintendo Online and is live now.

I've started Super Mario Galaxy 2 then things intervened, now that I have the ring-fit, if I could get SMG2 on Switch I could finally bin the WiiU

Expecting lots of home-made Rainbow Roads (and broken cameras).

jmm, Thursday, 3 September 2020 15:52 (three years ago) link

that sucks, SMG2 was the best of those games IMO

Sunshine is one I wanna revisit someday, I remember the overwhelming consensus being "this game is good but it's got a lot of problems" and indeed the main thing I remember is how glitchy it was. but the humongous worlds were legitimately very cool and I loved all the 'secret' areas

3D world is great too, when you go back to the other New SMB games it's really apparent how much better this one is

frogbs, Thursday, 3 September 2020 16:00 (three years ago) link

sunshine is solid its just the bar is so high for these games. also having the shine order in each level be railroaded after the free-explore approach of 64 was a disappointment at the time, but then iirc galaxy continued with that and everyone got used to it until they brought free explore back for odyssey

ciderpress, Thursday, 3 September 2020 16:07 (three years ago) link

one thing I remember is there's a level where you have to shoot water at a puzzle and flip all the pieces to the same side but the waterpack controls were so clunky that you couldn't shoot with any precision and so you either got lucky or quit in frustration

also remember certain sections of the game be surprisingly difficult, like "there has to be something I'm missing because what they want me to do here is basically impossible"

I think if they'd given it another 6 months it could've been real great, and iirc the Gamecube was really hurting for a flagship title at that point

frogbs, Thursday, 3 September 2020 16:12 (three years ago) link

there's definitely some difficulty spikes but i don't remember anything that hard

though there's this one level that apparently is now infamous for being bullshit thanks to a giant bomb stream where they fucked it up repeatedly and blamed the game but i had 0 difficulty with it as a kid??

ciderpress, Thursday, 3 September 2020 16:18 (three years ago) link

This is great but windddddd wakerrrrrrrrrrr

ciderpress, Thursday, 3 September 2020 16:33 (three years ago) link
