holy shit! It took me a minute to realise I wasn't seeing what I thought I was.

what are you guys seeing that i'm not? just looks like a series of flashing stickmen on a staircase and a stick man running in place at the right corner. there's some image shifting because of the flashing but not much else. are you seeing a continuous motion animation? is this a color vision thing?

hm, on looking closer it seems like the majority of the images and the staircase shift slightly left and right depending on the color? is that giving you guys the illusion of motion?

the staircase people appear to be moving up/right, the walking/running people and the top guy appear to be moving right and the falling people appear to be moving down. looks as though the colours on the leading/trailing edges in the direction of movement are different, giving the effect of motion when the colours are cycled.

yeah, i've been flipping through these. it's interesting: it gets a tiny bit of rotation and then shifts back. something in my eyes or my brain allows the spin of those cubes if I'm not looking directly at them but as soon as i focus it just pops back and forth.

Also, I think its a glancing thing. If you're focused on the individual stickmen too much yeah you're just going to see a flashing image but look at the image as a whole might help see the illusion better?

there's the _suggestion_ of motion but not actual motion if that makes sense? I've tried to defocus (as well as focus hard) to see if i can get the staircase one to work properly but no dice.

i'm super interested in weaponized visual illusions as I'm often trying to integrate them into my pottery so when i can't see one it kinda drives me batty

back-to-basics spinning dodecahedron, just to exercise muscles that you don't normally have to exercise these days - calculating normals and dot products, rasterising triangles, dithering. (pico-8, lua)

triangle drawing not great, there are sometimes gaps between the triangles that make up the pentagons, which is probably just rounding errors. i'm wondering now whether i can rasterise the entire pentagon as a pentagon rather than splitting it up into 3 triangles.
