2020 - Most Underappreciated Albums of 2020

There are a few underrated albums that I totally adore that were released this year that maybe wasn’t heralded with the acclaim that I thought they deserved. I’m hoping this thread will inspire you to tell us what album or albums released in 2020 you’ve been knocked out by, that maybe weren't given its/their due attention.

I could choose a half-dozen or so albums to choose from (I may circle back here in a month or two), but one album in particular blows me away consistently, and to an extent where I feel this album will stand the test of "best of 10's albums" lists. Torres’s album, Silver Tongue fits that description perfectly; if you’re a fan of Big Thief or Adrianne Lenker’s solo albums, this album will totally satisfy those same urges…

I know me recommending six songs from one album is so extreme, but I’m almost sure that this album will be one of my top 10 albums the 20s, and I've left off a few amazing songs, lol:

Lol, I meant it could last the best of the '20s albums list....

This thread smells a bit street-teamy to me (not gonna lie)—but as I am myself a fan of Big Thief and Adrianne Lenker’s solo albums, I will give Torres’s album, Silver Tongue, a listen.

I haven't seen theJaga Jazzist album get much love/attention. I really like the trajectory they've been on.

Oh no! I've started these types of threads I think more than once over the past 15 years. Please look it up if you will. I'm a middle-aged IT employee in Florida with zero ties to the entertainment industry, just FYI.

LOL... I know you're a 25-yr-old Merge Records publicist sitting outside a coffee shop in Durham, NC (mask hanging from one ear as you sip cold brew)!

J/k, I'll stand down ;)

I'm hoping folks will post albums that they really love, that isn't given album-of-the-year consideration. I'm a little behind in music.

I love Summer Walker's Life on Earth EP, and Kaash Paige's album Teenage Fever – both of which are big in the r&b world, but which I don't think have received much critical attn generally (or been discussed here outside the rolling r&b thread).

(discussed by me) (maybe too much) (lol)

jim elkington released another fantastic folk record earlier this year —ever roving eye— that just seems to have disappeared from most folks' minds. it's not my favorite release of the year by any means, but it's just as good as anything else he's ever done.

Totally different head. Totally. (Austin), Wednesday, 23 September 2020 23:52 (three years ago) link
