it seems so?

The Thunder requested the piped-in crowd noise turned up to replicate the volume at Chesapeake Energy Arena in OKC.

Yeah supposedly it’s loud as hell

Matt Armstrong, Thursday, 24 September 2020 00:25 (three years ago) link

it's weird because i've also heard some journalists saying it's much easier to like mentally check out even during great games. maybe the noise is artificial enough in person that you can just ignore it.

welcome to the club. we're sorry to inform you that the clubhouse cannot accommodate any new members until leasing arrangements with the stadium's owners can be finalized.

it's probably time to recognize that miami's only good offensive player tonight is herro and adjust accordingly

call all destroyer, Thursday, 24 September 2020 02:47 (three years ago) link

Tyler Herro is quite good

frogbs, Thursday, 24 September 2020 02:47 (three years ago) link

celtics still look awful vs the zone, have there been any adjustments

ciderpress, Thursday, 24 September 2020 02:48 (three years ago) link

i think they've been finding plenty of shots against the zone. turnovers and fouls have hurt them.

call all destroyer, Thursday, 24 September 2020 02:54 (three years ago) link

that travel... oof

micah, Thursday, 24 September 2020 03:01 (three years ago) link

forcing 1 miami turnover in the second half combined with a generally desultory first half isn't going to do it. first playoff game where i've been really disappointed with the celtics.

micah, Thursday, 24 September 2020 03:21 (three years ago) link

bummer i was hoping this would go 2-2. i like both teams tho.

Spottie, Thursday, 24 September 2020 03:22 (three years ago) link

i've been posting this like once a week per playoffs basically but everyone knew going into the 2019 draft that it was shit after the top 2 and like a dozen GMs still let one of the 5 most elite shooters in the NBA almost slip out of the lottery. idk how you could have watched herro shoot and take step backs and be like, give me coby white. it's unconscionable. the hawks took two players who are worse. the t wolves traded up for a shooting guard who might not make it to his second contract. the cavs drafted a shooting guard who is demonstrably worse than herro. this is how bad franchises stay terrible.

J0rdan S., Thursday, 24 September 2020 04:02 (three years ago) link

how much better is trae young than tyler herro serious question

J0rdan S., Thursday, 24 September 2020 04:03 (three years ago) link

i feel like if you put herro on the hawks and gave him trae young's role he would average 29-10-5 w/ better efficiency

J0rdan S., Thursday, 24 September 2020 04:04 (three years ago) link

need to see more, his reg season numbers aren't more efficient than trae despite way less usage

ciderpress, Thursday, 24 September 2020 04:10 (three years ago) link

oh nvm i misread the number he's a few % better from 3. still not convinced yet though

ciderpress, Thursday, 24 September 2020 04:11 (three years ago) link

heat are so good at player development i dont understand how more teams arent on the same wave

Spottie, Thursday, 24 September 2020 04:14 (three years ago) link

herro showed up to the bubble almost as a new player, he wasn't doing any of this pick and roll stuff or finishing at the rim during the regular season. the heat didn't run offense thru him until the playoffs. he's doing all of it w/in a very structured system and on a finals-level team too, if next season he was just gunning for numbers on a shitty team like trae he would put some crazy stat lines

J0rdan S., Thursday, 24 September 2020 04:23 (three years ago) link

heat are so good at player development i dont understand how more teams arent on the same wave

― Spottie, Thursday, September 24, 2020 12:14 AM (eight minutes ago)

they're development is amazing but so is their evaluation. they sought out duncan robinson and valued him pretty highly (two way contract) before even developing him. le batard said on zach lowe's podcast that the heat put herro thru a pre draft shooting drill they give to everyone and he did better than anyone they had ever evaluated. they flagged bam as an elite defender even if the offense didn't develop. obv they have grown these guys games in very noticeable ways and are great about putting their players in positions to succeed, but also they're seeing things on an evaluation level that other teams for whatever reason aren't.

J0rdan S., Thursday, 24 September 2020 04:26 (three years ago) link

yeah clearly they're doing it right. they havent even needed jimmy to be great in this series.

Spottie, Thursday, 24 September 2020 04:33 (three years ago) link

he has actually been kind of terrible after game 1

J0rdan S., Thursday, 24 September 2020 04:34 (three years ago) link

herro really saved them tonight, i thought spo coached a weird game. he over relied on igoudala and didn't get out of the zone even after the celtics scored on like 15 straight possessions in the fourth quarter.

J0rdan S., Thursday, 24 September 2020 04:35 (three years ago) link

the game was pretty weird overall. not a lot of punch to it.

Spottie, Thursday, 24 September 2020 04:55 (three years ago) link

Felt like there were long stretches of terrible ball from both teams tonight. If Boston didn't shoot themselves in the foot so often they'd be up 3-1. For Miami, they have to give huge thanks to Herro otherwise they would have struggled to break 80 points. They look ruff when the 3 ball doesn't drop. Boston has shut down Robinson and Crowder regressed a bit this game.

gotta be rough for hayward, misses the birth of his son but might still be bounced out of the bubble two games later

celtics are scoring like .5 points a possession in crunch time this series, i just saw in a tweet

lag∞n, Thursday, 24 September 2020 14:36 (three years ago) link

too much dribbling. you can't dribble the ball into the hoop

ciderpress, Thursday, 24 September 2020 14:51 (three years ago) link

if someone could invent dribbling the ball into the hoop they would make a million dollars

yeah i think we can credit the team for evaluating players well while also acknowledging that there's a major element of luck in how guys turn out. there's plenty of other supposed sharpshooters whose shooting vanished when they started playing nba games or who didn't have enough other nba skills to stick

ciderpress, Thursday, 24 September 2020 15:02 (three years ago) link

or even just the ability to get good looks

lag∞n, Thursday, 24 September 2020 15:03 (three years ago) link

You take Herro out of this series and Celtics might well be 3-1, that guy is balling

celtics hit a few more wide open corner 3s and itd be 3-1

lag∞n, Thursday, 24 September 2020 15:07 (three years ago) link

the series is tied 441-441, pretty amazing

J0rdan S., Thursday, 24 September 2020 15:37 (three years ago) link

going into the series i thought the heat's best chance was to have jimmy steal a few games down the stretch like he did vs the bucks... i think the celtics are more talented but the heat have shown an ability to seize the moment at the end of games that usually wins out in the playoffs (while also doing a bunch of stupid shit at the end of every game and almost blowing big leads)

J0rdan S., Thursday, 24 September 2020 15:42 (three years ago) link

Heat 4th Q Net Rating

Regular Season: -5.8 (Rank 28)
Playoffs: +19.3 (Rank 1)

We can pontificate on why that's happened. As @johnhollinger has noted there's probably a bubble conditioning factor at play. But it's still a wild swing from their reg season profile.
