ste, for future reference a lot of us browse ilx with images turned off so this just displays like this with the whole url

here comes the hotstamper (jim in vancouver), Friday, 2 October 2020 20:27 (three years ago) link

It's not Colombo and it's not in India. Does indeed look dope though and I hope to go there at some point.

Bamako?

Alternative Ulsterbus, Saturday, 3 October 2020 02:05 (three years ago) link

Or maybe I'm just interested in the way the Niger river flows to the desert.

Alternative Ulsterbus, Saturday, 3 October 2020 02:22 (three years ago) link

Not Bamako.

A couple of the guesses more so than the other, but you're all very far away thus far.

brain (krakow), Saturday, 3 October 2020 10:25 (three years ago) link

building in the bottom right is the thing to look at here, I think. Architecture looks maybe Turkish, or central Asian, though the plants look more tropical.

Suspect its provincial Indonesia, but I've yet to find a match.

Sanpaku, Saturday, 3 October 2020 18:00 (three years ago) link

managua ?

budo jeru, Saturday, 3 October 2020 23:55 (three years ago) link

Indonesia is very far away.

It's been a few days now, so I'll say that it's not Managua, but that is much closer than other guesses so far.

brain (krakow), Sunday, 4 October 2020 11:13 (three years ago) link

Paramaribo?

好 now 烧烤 (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Sunday, 4 October 2020 11:22 (three years ago) link

Ciudad Bolívar?

or something, Sunday, 4 October 2020 11:24 (three years ago) link

Actually looks quite like Georgetown, low buildings and lots of trees there.

好 now 烧烤 (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Sunday, 4 October 2020 11:27 (three years ago) link

It's remarkable how newer residential / small business architecture has converged to a single style throughout the middle income tropics. Before cinder blocks, rust painted galvanized steel roofing, and rooftop tanks for water, it would have been possible to narrow down to a region just from foreground structures.

Sanpaku, Sunday, 4 October 2020 14:43 (three years ago) link

These newer ones are all good guesses, but not right. I'll try to find an additional non-revealing photo tonight.

brain (krakow), Sunday, 4 October 2020 15:46 (three years ago) link

A bit closer in, so maybe this will give it away.

Cienfuegos, Cuba

nate woolls, Monday, 5 October 2020 00:25 (three years ago) link

Yes! You've got it nate woolls, it is Cienfuegos.

I was meant to be going there next spring, but not now, for obvious reasons.

brain (krakow), Monday, 5 October 2020 09:40 (three years ago) link

I just googled "grey building with red dome" and it was the 4th image result

nate woolls, Monday, 5 October 2020 09:55 (three years ago) link

Ha. I guess it is striking, but that's impressive.

The second image is a view of Parque José Martí and I believe the "grey building with red dome" in question is the Palacio de Gobierno, the regional government headquarters.

brain (krakow), Monday, 5 October 2020 10:12 (three years ago) link

The yellow building with balcony looks Portuguese or former Portuguese colony to me

Zelda Zonk, Monday, 5 October 2020 11:39 (three years ago) link

thomasintrouble, Monday, 5 October 2020 12:48 (three years ago) link

I get mountain resort vibes but, like the above, that may be the weather

or something, Monday, 5 October 2020 12:50 (three years ago) link

yeah my mind went Russia, weather certainly a factor

Doctor Casino, Monday, 5 October 2020 12:52 (three years ago) link

Does remind me of a timelapse video I saw a few months back of a boat (camera tethered above) journey from Rotterdam to Amsterdam

nashwan, Wednesday, 23 December 2020 16:27 (three years ago) link

yep, it is Rotterdam, not Noordereiland, my first thought, but Eiland van Feijenoord, just around the corner from it.

ffolkes (map), Sunday, 27 December 2020 21:00 (three years ago) link

Yeah, I'm right stumped, though somewhere in Canada does seem a correct guess.

"Bi" Dong A Ban He Try (the table is the table), Sunday, 27 December 2020 22:44 (three years ago) link

Mostly due to the red and white color scheme of the train in the pic. But I can't find any bridges in Ottawa that look like that one, unless I'm missing something huge.

"Bi" Dong A Ban He Try (the table is the table), Sunday, 27 December 2020 22:52 (three years ago) link

You're not missing anything huge, its not Ottawa
