The president is ranting again about Twitter's trending topics, saying the list includes too much "boring" stuff. He says, "I know what trending is better than anybody in the world. I've been trending my whole life. From the day I was born, I've been trending."— Daniel Dale (@ddale8) November 2, 2020

i had assumed that substack was just a platform for mass email delivery, like tinyletter or something?
like, are enough ppl really going to subscribe to glem's newsletter to pay him six figures and give substack a cut?
i mean the way he's going he'll get koch money but still

not sure if glenn has a hardcore fanbase but some writers cld prob make it work like say andrew sullivan, however idk if substack is the best way to do that

if i were one of these newly unemployed big name writers and i didnt want get big investment money and have a whole organization that needed to be managed produce big numbers and so forth i might try something substackish thats like half podcasts with a staff of less than 5 people, tho i would think hard about whether i wanted to use a 3rd party platform like substack thats ultimately concerned about whats good for them rather than you
but im sure substack is prob just a stopgap for these guys anyway, unless substack has a ton of money they feel like throwing around, but then even that wont last
oh, trust me. the substack money is FLOWING

the part of it i don't like is being shown people i've never hard of before and would never hear of if not for twitter being owned. i guess in some case they're quasi-reputable media figures, but also more often not? im pretty sure the girl who said AOC's boyfriend has raccoon dick energy or wtv is just some random with 5k followers

like this one was pretty funny to me bc it's glenn. fucking. greenwald. we all know him, oh isn't this so predictable of his late descent yet also so perfectly in-character, etc. thomas chatterthon williams i didn't even know who he was (name vaguely rings a bell but im certain it's just because he has been main character of twitter before). i guess it's kinda funny that he said emily ratajkowski's boobs are neat. but like, it's not as funny as the horny anthony lane review of incredibles 2

Here's the thing: the reason there's a thing called @FiveThirtyEight is because 538 was the margin in FL when the Republican SCOTUS reversed the 2000 election during a recount, making Dubya the president. I think it’s a weird intersection of hanger-ons and extremely online people
the ride-or-die people are weird in the absence of coherent ideology (see my Bernie sign peeking out from under the post) and it’s just weird stanning of their candidate that has nothing to do with the actual person, afaict
there are ~vibes~ that may be incompatible, like I doubt there are homophobic Buttigieg realists but who knows

from the one time I checked it out in the last five years, it seems like all of the non-news show talk content is for people who want the update on the soap opera they see politics as, from a center-left viewpoint, when you’re at most online enough to check out cranks on twitter who were really into tweeting “this is it”

Reid is presumably quite popular with the old people who watch four hours of MSNBC a night - not too challenging, not a yelling old white man (like Chris Matthews was), unwaveringly anti-Trump
