if only he weren't so outrageously talented, it would be a lot easier to just go with "lol kyrie" but it's a bummer that he can't find at least enough balance in his life to not so regularly impact his playing career... it's not like he doesn't seem to be a guy with his heart mostly in the right place!

Kyrie Irving donated 1.5 million to WNBA players who opted out of the bubble this year, 323K to Feeding America, and partnered with an NYC charity to provide 250K meals. Maybe let’s not have a referendum on his character because he doesn’t want to talk to beat writers.

philanthropy as always doesnt say much about a very rich person

lag∞n, Tuesday, 12 January 2021 17:30 (three years ago) link

neither does playing hooky from work

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 12 January 2021 17:33 (three years ago) link

yeah i dont have much enthusiasm for caring about the character of celebrities either way tbh

lag∞n, Tuesday, 12 January 2021 17:35 (three years ago) link

i mean kyrie is a team cancer obvs, but inability to fit in in the nba doesnt mean youre a bad person

lag∞n, Tuesday, 12 January 2021 17:38 (three years ago) link

i think it’s funny that the nets season is already collapsing but aside from that i find it hard to care too much about kyrie skipping out on shitty useless pandemic basketball

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 12 January 2021 17:42 (three years ago) link

yeah

lag∞n, Tuesday, 12 January 2021 17:43 (three years ago) link

powerful insight, thanks

the serious avant-garde universalist right now (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 12 January 2021 17:45 (three years ago) link

i'd probably be annoyed if i was a nets fan but yeah

ciderpress, Tuesday, 12 January 2021 17:48 (three years ago) link

the good thing is the nets dont have any fans

lag∞n, Tuesday, 12 January 2021 17:49 (three years ago) link

and what’s your searing insight on this situation forks?

Remember when people thought the hornets signing Hayward was a huge blunder

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 12 January 2021 18:27 (three years ago) link

Kyrie is a coach killer, an absolute flake and that’s just how it is. You can’t be a top 10 player doing that and it’s hard to win a title doing it either. But sports is mostly art; enjoy the cool things he does on court.

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 12 January 2021 18:29 (three years ago) link

love the craft

we’re 11 games into the season

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 12 January 2021 18:30 (three years ago) link

into the contract!

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 12 January 2021 18:31 (three years ago) link

lol

lag∞n, Tuesday, 12 January 2021 18:43 (three years ago) link

Hayward was awesome last season, continues to be awesome. Seems like a good thing for the Hornets.

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 12 January 2021 18:44 (three years ago) link

the big downside risk for the hornets is hayward is injury prone, other than that hes good player paid like a great one which for this hornets team thats prob not going to need him to generate quality looks in big playoff games is fine

lag∞n, Tuesday, 12 January 2021 18:49 (three years ago) link

i don't think anyone ever questioned the quality of his play. it is a question of whether a. he can stay healthy b. it's worth it for the hornets to get a 7-10 seed, lose in the first round of the playoffs a few times and end up w/ a bunch of non lottery picks to build their future around lonzo

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 12 January 2021 18:50 (three years ago) link

yeah being bad this year prob wouldve been a better plan

lag∞n, Tuesday, 12 January 2021 18:52 (three years ago) link

otm

k3vin k., Tuesday, 12 January 2021 18:52 (three years ago) link

it's not that the other side of the hayward argument -- that making the playoffs a few times and having a very competent professional player like hayward around their young players -- is completely unfathomable or anything... but not sure we can call it either way after 11 games

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 12 January 2021 18:53 (three years ago) link

yeah being bad this year prob wouldve been a better plan

― lag∞n, Tuesday, January 12, 2021 1:52 PM (one minute ago)

and yeah honestly w/ the way this draft is shaping up they prob should've bottomed out again in a season w/ no fans to begin w/ and gotten one of these studs in the top 5

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 12 January 2021 18:53 (three years ago) link

The Boston Celtics-Orlando Magic game on Wednesday is expected to be postponed, sources tell ESPN.

also i'd be remiss to not point out that so far this season...

PER

gordon hayward - 19.50
nic batum - 16.90

win shares

gordon hayawrd - 1.2
nic batum - 1.2

538 war

gordon hayward - 0.7
nic batum - 1.6

lol

I know it sucks that Hayward’s wife is fash and all but he’s as good as ever

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 12 January 2021 19:22 (three years ago) link

Sources: NBA and NBPA working through a minimum two-week window of protocol tightening that includes:
*No hugging or interaction of rival players on court pre and post-game.
*Reducing social interactions during games, including tapping hands during free throws.

guys they are finally trying my idea of banning handshakes

k3vin k., Tuesday, 12 January 2021 19:33 (three years ago) link

glad that they're focusing on the really impactful stuff

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 12 January 2021 19:38 (three years ago) link

they should probably either do the bubble or suspend the season but selfishly I wanna see how the handshake thing looks, maybe it’ll stick

k3vin k., Tuesday, 12 January 2021 19:45 (three years ago) link

So apparently the nuggets this season are the 2nd best team with Jokic on the floor and one of the worst teams in NBA history with him off the floor

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 12 January 2021 19:47 (three years ago) link

yeah you don’t need stats to tell you that lol

k3vin k., Tuesday, 12 January 2021 19:52 (three years ago) link

the bench is an absolute mess. definitely need to make a trade or two assuming this season continues

k3vin k., Tuesday, 12 January 2021 19:53 (three years ago) link

So do you guys think the Warriors are figuring it out, or just fluked their way into a few wins?

DJI, Tuesday, 12 January 2021 19:57 (three years ago) link

i think steph curry will sometimes score a lot of points and they will win

ciderpress, Tuesday, 12 January 2021 20:00 (three years ago) link

that they're 6-4 despite curry running decently below his career numbers is a good sign i guess

ciderpress, Tuesday, 12 January 2021 20:03 (three years ago) link

you can tell how hard it is for the warriors to beat really good teams -- the clippers were steamrolling them until steph went supernova -- but against like half the teams in the league they will have easily the best player on the floor every night and that should at least take them into the playoffs imo

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 12 January 2021 20:06 (three years ago) link

If Oubre somehow gets his shot back, it would help!

DJI, Tuesday, 12 January 2021 20:07 (three years ago) link

They’re figuring some things out for sure but they aren’t an upper tier team atm. The defense looks pretty sound in the starting unit. Good sign that They won the last game where curry was 2/16 fg.

a nice controlled drift (Spottie), Tuesday, 12 January 2021 20:10 (three years ago) link

I’ve always maintained that a healthy curry and draymond is enough to compete on any night

a nice controlled drift (Spottie), Tuesday, 12 January 2021 20:11 (three years ago) link

the first 10 games have to be taken with a massive grain of salt but somewhere in the mix for the 7-10 seeds is probably reasonable.

k3vin k., Tuesday, 12 January 2021 20:12 (three years ago) link

could see them getting bonked to 9th if the rockets get their shit together and all of last years offs teams repeat other than OKC -> PHX

ciderpress, Tuesday, 12 January 2021 20:16 (three years ago) link

I’m not trusting anyone in the west outside of the LA teams at the moment
