Tiles make me think Portugal and I've thought Lisbon a couple of times recently but it hasn't been but maybe this is? So, Lisbon?

or something, Monday, 8 February 2021 19:47 (three years ago) link

I think the key may lie in finding out which country/city is apt to space out those cubic orange/white channelizing barricades in such a manner.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Monday, 8 February 2021 19:51 (three years ago) link

The green truck seems to have a word on the front -- looks like MACNYE to me but I'm not getting any hits for that

Guayaquil (eephus!), Monday, 8 February 2021 19:55 (three years ago) link

that's what I was thinking. the Blue on white tile and then the orange-roofed building in the distance made me think "southern Sweden" for some reason.

The return of our beloved potatoes (the table is the table), Monday, 8 February 2021 19:56 (three years ago) link

Or somewhere in Denmark, maybe? Northern Europe seems like the best bet so far.

pomenitul, Monday, 8 February 2021 19:58 (three years ago) link

Bunch of very dark haired people in the photo.

Waterloo Subset (Tom D.), Monday, 8 February 2021 20:04 (three years ago) link

But the sand/dried mud on the roads seems more chalky Mediterranean, that's why I thought Bordeaux but what do I know

Andy the Grasshopper, Monday, 8 February 2021 20:05 (three years ago) link

It looks very reminiscent of Tartu, Estonia.

Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Monday, 8 February 2021 20:06 (three years ago) link

I thought the roller vehicle said something like MACHTENS but I may be forcing it to be dutch

StanM, Monday, 8 February 2021 20:10 (three years ago) link

or maybe it's Argentina

Andy the Grasshopper, Monday, 8 February 2021 20:19 (three years ago) link

The buildings are the wrong height for France. Need one more story for provincial villes. Also I’ve never seen tiles like that here.

All cars are bad (Euler), Monday, 8 February 2021 21:37 (three years ago) link

Nother vote here for europe, baltic maybe

cpt otm (darraghmac), Monday, 8 February 2021 21:46 (three years ago) link

Agree that it doesn't look like France, does look like Europe. But not necessarily Northern Europe? Tiles look Iberian to me, although it's pretty flat for Portugal so maybe Spain? Or a colonial Spanish city in South America? The barricades seem not like something you'd see in a wealthy country...

Zelda Zonk, Monday, 8 February 2021 22:39 (three years ago) link

can't think of a pic on this thread that has prompted a wider geographic range of good guesses

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Monday, 8 February 2021 22:47 (three years ago) link

Trees look a bit Latin city boulevard too

Zelda Zonk, Monday, 8 February 2021 22:58 (three years ago) link

Yeah, a little "warm!" or "colder!" would be of help right now.

Andy the Grasshopper, Monday, 8 February 2021 23:03 (three years ago) link

There's a slow-moving vehicle sign on that steam-roller, which I believe are unique to North America. It looks like Charleston SC or something, something old and Southern

flamboyant goon tie included, Monday, 8 February 2021 23:32 (three years ago) link

I'm going to guess Ulaanbaatar

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Tuesday, 9 February 2021 00:13 (three years ago) link

something old and Southern

I mean New Orleans was the first thing I thought of when I saw those wrought iron minibalconies but I can't convince myself this is someplace that warm

Guayaquil (eephus!), Tuesday, 9 February 2021 00:35 (three years ago) link

Yeah, no magnolia trees

Andy the Grasshopper, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 00:36 (three years ago) link

Wait, is this a Left Hand Traffic country?

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Tuesday, 9 February 2021 00:44 (three years ago) link

I was wondering too... but there are not traffic signs to judge by, and the road equipment could be traveling in either direction

Andy the Grasshopper, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 00:55 (three years ago) link

The car braking at the end of the street appears to be LHT.

Def not Charleston nor New Orleans. It could be South America but overhead utilities are not as out of control.

I said Lisbon upthread and I'm pretty sure I've found it? More trees but looks right

or something, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 01:15 (three years ago) link

I say more trees, I mean more foliage. cherry blossom's pic obvs winter

or something, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 01:17 (three years ago) link

Looks right

scampsite (darraghmac), Tuesday, 9 February 2021 01:19 (three years ago) link

Yep, well played.

pomenitul, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 01:23 (three years ago) link

I wondered if the tall building behind the trees was a church, yet it's flanked on both sides by those barn-colored apartments, which made me pause. But it is indeed a church. Good work!

Andy the Grasshopper, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 01:29 (three years ago) link

I've visited a grand total of 12 countries and 3 of them have come up here recently, it can't last

or something, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 01:30 (three years ago) link

you people

Guayaquil (eephus!), Tuesday, 9 February 2021 01:49 (three years ago) link

amazing work

budo jeru, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 03:45 (three years ago) link

A tough one - interesting that quite a few people thought it was North America. I did think the Iberian peninsula or possibly South America. The tiles certainly pointed to Portugal but despite having been to Lisbon several times, I forgot there are bits of it that aren't hilly!

Zelda Zonk, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 04:03 (three years ago) link

Awesome work!

cherry blossom, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 04:54 (three years ago) link

I did start googling 'red building city Lisbon' and similar last night suspecting that the caption 'Work' had a double meaning :)

nashwan, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 09:25 (three years ago) link

Oops, no, no double meaning. Someone assumed that about a previous photo too. There's never a clue in the caption, everything is in the photo only

cherry blossom, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 09:50 (three years ago) link

Nice one

Yeah those [whatever you call the glossy mosaics] look so Lisbonian

flamboyant goon tie included, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 13:52 (three years ago) link

check out the 2009 version on Streetview though

nashwan, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 14:04 (three years ago) link

Not there in 2014 either!

cherry blossom, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 14:08 (three years ago) link

This one is going to be relatively easy, i think:

Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Tuesday, 9 February 2021 14:37 (three years ago) link

Not Europe, not North America, or South America I don't think. Looks Asian, more specifically subcontinental, judging from the men's dress / skin colour. Couple of yellow taxis too which makes me think India. I'm guessing an Indian megalopolis, Mumbai or Delhi.

Zelda Zonk, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 20:34 (three years ago) link

Black and yellow curbs could provide the answer

Zelda Zonk, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 20:35 (three years ago) link

But isn't that an oak tree?

Andy the Grasshopper, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 20:49 (three years ago) link

I can confirm that it’s not Mumbai or Delhi.

Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Tuesday, 9 February 2021 20:56 (three years ago) link

lord of the ting tings (map), Tuesday, 9 February 2021 20:59 (three years ago) link

wait no it's definitely antarctica, getting a strong fort mcmurdo vibe

lord of the ting tings (map), Tuesday, 9 February 2021 21:00 (three years ago) link
