I was raised catholic so I give her a pass on that because she is not, to my knowledge, advocating for the repeal of Roe v Wade which puts her in line with probably half the catholics I've ever known. she has written great stuff on the death penalty. sometimes she tweets dumb things. her op-eds are pretty good. whatever, she's neither the greatest person in media nor the worst.

i'm more interested in a cohort of comfortable and inordinately powerful suburbanites (whose politics mostly boil down to hating Trump and binging MSNBC and praising David Brooks as "one of the good ones") getting exposed to actual good ideas/ people who aren't cynical jabbering idiots. and yes, it's a bummer that Liz seems to be one of the few leftists with a mainstream platform.

whenever some microceleb from this subculture does reasonably well in some hated establishment forum their fans just seem to suspend any suspicion of said forum in their case, instead of asking why this forum is interested in this person in particular, or what interests they might share

I had decided to quit listening to every episode and then bitching about it in this thread, but this was a really great episode, felt like they were engaged

"the future is quite literally just one end of the political spectrum taking turns owning the other while everything burns, until we've had enough" has also been the feeling I've plucked out of the air recently

Matt's pessimism agrees with my feelings generally but I also worry about him popping a blood vessel in his brain.

For topic coverage maybe, but I so hated how bad Matt’s mic would sound back then. Like none of these guys had the proficiency of your basic college DJ or dive bar sound guy just to record a basic voice

The tables have turned in the new series. Matt sounds fine, Felix sounds like he set a phone on a table across a bare room.

It’s usually Felix, but in episode 500 it was Amber who couldn’t be bothered to speak into the microphone.

Their terrible sound obscures the thing I hate most about podcasts - noise suppression when someone isn’t speaking. I find it very distracting to hear a slight hiss when someone is talking that drops out when they aren’t, it makes the noise more obvious.

yeah personally I try not to mix out *all* the noise for that reason (and cause you risk producing other weird artifacts)

is Virgil just gone now? Was surprised he wasn't on the 500th episode (or maybe he is later but not so far)

FWIW, Matt admitted on his latest Death is Around the Corner appearance that he felt weird about doing a Stitcher show, but the thinking was it might be a good way to get more people to check out Blowback, which I gather they're hoping will get to keep going beyond its forthcoming second season.
