ha nice one, I have looked at a ton of train-themed murals today

rob, Wednesday, 17 February 2021 20:04 (three years ago) link

good work!

The second mural depicts Cabo Verde, the first mural is a depiction of Boston

cherry blossom, Thursday, 18 February 2021 00:04 (three years ago) link

(unless it's a mural depicting a completely different place, which just seems too mean of cherry blossom)

but OK, I get it, big Cap Verdean community

My northeast US seaboard general vibe was right, at least.

This one will likely be easy for a few people.

if you recognise it's a cricket ground you're in business with that one

Sven Vath's scary carpet (Neil S), Thursday, 18 February 2021 10:40 (three years ago) link

and it's on my list of cricket grounds to visit!

Think it's Trieste? Looks European so got a top 10 of Europe's largest freight ports and did a gis of each, Trieste came in 8th

or something, Thursday, 18 February 2021 11:37 (three years ago) link

(not that I got that! Just going off your answer, I was going to guess maybe Genoa

cherry blossom, Thursday, 18 February 2021 11:54 (three years ago) link

Trieste has the same yellow cranes also

nashwan, Thursday, 18 February 2021 12:14 (three years ago) link

Not Qom.

Jibe, Thursday, 18 February 2021 13:16 (three years ago) link

Jibe, Thursday, 18 February 2021 13:21 (three years ago) link

Looking pretty chilly out there

cherry blossom, Thursday, 18 February 2021 13:21 (three years ago) link

Jibe is correct!

Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Thursday, 18 February 2021 13:24 (three years ago) link

xp maybe. In my limited experience, Indians will dress like that as soon as the temperature drops below 10

rob, Thursday, 18 February 2021 13:30 (three years ago) link

Ooooh I like this pace :) more more more

Another relatively easy one, though i have artlessly obscured two of the most Googleable clues.

Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Thursday, 18 February 2021 16:11 (three years ago) link

Almost certainly a college campus with the football stadium the structure in front. Looks like Stanford to me, it certainly has those tall palms along the side of roads bordering big lawns.

Guayaquil (eephus!), Thursday, 18 February 2021 16:41 (three years ago) link

The red color is right for Stanford too.

Guayaquil (eephus!), Thursday, 18 February 2021 16:42 (three years ago) link

I don't think Stanford Stadium is that dumpy, although I don't think I've ever walked next to the stadium.

It looks more like Brazil to me, but I have no feeling for where (I have traveled rather little there).

Not Stanford (only one BMW amid subcompact economy hatchbacks). Looks more tropical.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Thursday, 18 February 2021 16:52 (three years ago) link

What an interesting thing on the left. Looks like a pavilion of some sort, reminds me of Venice Biennale (but isn't that)

those might be the humanities professors' cars

Guayaquil (eephus!), Thursday, 18 February 2021 17:42 (three years ago) link

Whats the tall thing to the left of the two trees on the left? Sort of looks like a floodlight?

cherry blossom, Thursday, 18 February 2021 17:49 (three years ago) link

Ah, looks like thats already covered

cherry blossom, Thursday, 18 February 2021 17:52 (three years ago) link

Do stadiums in the US have seating go right up like that? Cars don't feel right for US, South America feels a better bet

cherry blossom, Thursday, 18 February 2021 17:55 (three years ago) link

small colleges sometimes have stadiums like that

treeship., Thursday, 18 February 2021 17:57 (three years ago) link

Yeah that totally looks like a US college football stadium to me

Guayaquil (eephus!), Thursday, 18 February 2021 17:58 (three years ago) link

It's hard to shake the idea it's California, but it's also p modest looking for a US campus venue for nearly any sport. Plus I'm struggling to think of an English word ending in -cial that would make sense as the last word of the name of that building on the left, whereas in, say, Spanish "ciencia social" would be logical

rob, Thursday, 18 February 2021 18:02 (three years ago) link

yeah I suppose a small liberal arts college could have a dinky entrance like that

rob, Thursday, 18 February 2021 18:02 (three years ago) link

btw "brutalist football stadium" is kind of a fun gis

rob, Thursday, 18 February 2021 18:06 (three years ago) link

I thought i had this for a second in Rio.

Its not Rio

cherry blossom, Thursday, 18 February 2021 18:07 (three years ago) link

Flamengo made sense for a moment but no

cherry blossom, Thursday, 18 February 2021 18:12 (three years ago) link

Next guess was Curitiba but absolutely no on that one
