well done or something it is Bangalore's MG road

Jibe, Tuesday, 23 February 2021 11:39 (three years ago) link

@cherry blossom: the area on the right is a parade ground that belongs to the military iirc, but you can see the floodlights of the cricket stadium in the background

Jibe, Tuesday, 23 February 2021 11:41 (three years ago) link

(Xp) Bengaluru I should say, apologies. Found the stadium but cant nail the spot

or something, Tuesday, 23 February 2021 11:45 (three years ago) link

it's somewhere near the corner of residency road and mg road

Jibe, Tuesday, 23 February 2021 11:52 (three years ago) link

Found it, Chief Engineer Offive and Civil Courts, no streetview tho

or something, Tuesday, 23 February 2021 11:57 (three years ago) link

Nice one Jibe! Here I was waking up and expecting to have to field clues lol. I tried to make my submission a little harder (America town in Okinawa which has a lot of English/Roman signs) but I obviously failed at that lol.

Sometimes it's hard to tell if gay porn was made in Iowa or outside Petrovostok or whatever.

I could explain using images, but that would be very NSFW.

lol I thought eephus! was asking "how" did Albert figure it out, but now I'm not sure

rob, Tuesday, 23 February 2021 20:22 (three years ago) link

ha ha I meant how did Albert figure it out but both are fair questions

Guayaquil (eephus!), Tuesday, 23 February 2021 20:34 (three years ago) link

https://encyclopedia2.thefreedictionary.com/Volga+Basin+River+Ports

then results "volga river port [x]" for "volga river port cheboksary" got me to this img srch:

https://www.google.com/search?source=univ&tbm=isch&q=volga+river+port+cheboksary

took ~10 mins

Monday

cherry blossom, Monday, 1 March 2021 14:08 (three years ago) link

that looks like England to me. Stafford?

Sven Vath's scary carpet (Neil S), Monday, 1 March 2021 14:12 (three years ago) link

Certainly feels northern European but something doesn't look quite right for England, I might be wrong

or something, Monday, 1 March 2021 14:50 (three years ago) link

It does looks like England. Stafford's not a city though.

Punk's not daft (Tom D.), Monday, 1 March 2021 14:52 (three years ago) link

I did wonder about that. It has that central England feel to it though. Stoke-on-Trent?

Sven Vath's scary carpet (Neil S), Monday, 1 March 2021 14:54 (three years ago) link

Holy shit, that was a lucky drop. Tampere, Finland

Great!
I was wondering about the church/tower's shape on the left but I didn't see any cyrillic on the bridge's sign (...ITTI) or the building on the left (...OSIA) but it's not far from Russia after all

StanM, Monday, 1 March 2021 15:13 (three years ago) link

nice, that white building does look Nordic

Friday

cherry blossom, Friday, 5 March 2021 19:35 (three years ago) link

it's the UK, and pretty sure I've driven through that junction, or one just like it, is it Liverpool?

Bastard Lakes (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Friday, 5 March 2021 19:38 (three years ago) link

My first thought was Leeds

calzino, Friday, 5 March 2021 19:41 (three years ago) link

actually scratch Leeds, the junction approaching Beeston I was thinking of has a view of the ugly Leeds skyline.

calzino, Friday, 5 March 2021 19:53 (three years ago) link

nottingham?

nxd, Friday, 5 March 2021 19:55 (three years ago) link

Dont think its liverpool, looks a bit like edge lane but too hilly. Reminds me of Birmingham

or something, Friday, 5 March 2021 20:09 (three years ago) link

bleak image, no wonder post-punk sounds like that

Guayaquil (eephus!), Friday, 5 March 2021 20:26 (three years ago) link

Oxford?

Glasgow? The houses in the distance look Scottish.

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Friday, 5 March 2021 21:42 (three years ago) link

it does look a bit bleak for the south. don't recognize the junction, but ... sheffield?

Got it, heading into Bradford

or something, Friday, 5 March 2021 23:08 (three years ago) link

Stupid question but are you manually blurring the number plates or are these from google street view?

that's not my post, Saturday, 6 March 2021 01:42 (three years ago) link

They're from google streetview, which autoblurs number plates (at least most of the time). Images are as is!

cherry blossom, Saturday, 6 March 2021 12:59 (three years ago) link

oh I knew I'd seen it before. I made several journeys through that junction taking my dog to the Bradford PDSA a couple of years back.

calzino, Saturday, 6 March 2021 13:01 (three years ago) link

Got it, heading into Bradford

― or something,

Correct, Bradford it is xp

cherry blossom, Saturday, 6 March 2021 13:02 (three years ago) link

it's a lot prettier approaching the Keighley side of Bradford through the beautiful desolation of Bronte country.

calzino, Saturday, 6 March 2021 13:18 (three years ago) link

I didn't pick the best shot thats for sure!

cherry blossom, Saturday, 6 March 2021 14:17 (three years ago) link

I didn't mean to pick one with a junction for Bradford because of the next choice

cherry blossom, Saturday, 6 March 2021 14:21 (three years ago) link

Looks like US signage. Palm trees. Looks a bit green for California. Maybe Florida?

o. nate, Saturday, 6 March 2021 23:36 (three years ago) link

Could be anywhere along the Gulf Coast tbh

it's like edging for your mind (the table is the table), Sunday, 7 March 2021 00:29 (three years ago) link

As an ex-Floridian my first thought was that's Florida, but I would say East Coast. Boca Raton or Delray Beach, somewhere around there.

Josefa, Sunday, 7 March 2021 00:55 (three years ago) link

US cities are the toughest to find, so many of them

or something, Sunday, 7 March 2021 00:58 (three years ago) link

i want to say those are florida east coast railway tracks, but every time i drop down beside them in street view the landscaping is rougher

circles, Sunday, 7 March 2021 01:21 (three years ago) link

2 E Atlantic Blvd
https://maps.app.goo.gl/VexzGpfLZKKoCYWv5

Pompano Beach, never heard of it. Thanks to the clues above I dropped at several crossroads in florida with a highway running parallel to the tracks before stumbling across it

or something, Sunday, 7 March 2021 02:18 (three years ago) link

Awesome! I spent a lot of time in Pompano back in the day. It's two towns south of Boca Raton, so I was close. That was tricky because along those railroad tracks, even within the same city, there are some very skanky stretches as well as some nicely landscaped ones as in the photo.

Josefa, Sunday, 7 March 2021 02:26 (three years ago) link

Good work! Yeah I did think after I posted it that I should have picked a less landscaped stretch
