those splits are pretty good! and theyre great for lonzo, he still cant do anything as far as driving to score tho

lag∞n, Monday, 1 March 2021 15:10 (three years ago) link

maybe he turns out to be a 3 and d guy who is also very good at passing, assuming he stays a decent 3 pt shooter which is pretty dicey tbh

lag∞n, Monday, 1 March 2021 15:12 (three years ago) link

still at like 1.2 FTA per game. his counting defensive stats are on the decline but his offensive numbers improve every season.

i was too much listening to your accent (Spottie), Monday, 1 March 2021 15:13 (three years ago) link

you know what i dont understand is the pelicans have the worst defense in the league but they have all these guys who are supposed to be good defenders: lonzo adams bledsoe ingram some of their bench guys seem like they shd be able to play d idgi

lag∞n, Monday, 1 March 2021 15:16 (three years ago) link

zion obvs a very bad defender but also he shouldnt be hes the strongest and most athletic person in the world and moves his feet like a guard

lag∞n, Monday, 1 March 2021 15:18 (three years ago) link

Gotta think Zion will be a plus defender in 2-3 years max, he just has to learn the game and how to conserve his mental energy out there

This is a pretty far cry from what you’re positing, but for whatever reason this made me think of what Shaun Livingston became, only if those buttery midrange jumpers were 3s. That’s a pretty cool player but probably a disappointment for Lonzo still at this point (I wonder if LaMelo’s success buys Lonzo another year of trading on potential, by association lol). It’s weird to imagine a player so vaunted for his passing becoming a 3&D guy, hard to think of comps for that. Not a specific player but makes me think of 2014 era Spurs

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Monday, 1 March 2021 17:03 (three years ago) link

yeah the thing about the passing its hard to make good passes in the halfcourt if youre not breaking down the d, maybe in more of a 3 n d wing role which he conveniently has the size for his passing can come into play attacking closeouts, a situation where the d has already been broken down for you

lag∞n, Monday, 1 March 2021 17:17 (three years ago) link

having those ball handling and passing skills could be very valuable in a role playing wing where in a point guard you kinda just need them

lag∞n, Monday, 1 March 2021 17:18 (three years ago) link

Yeah when I think of the 3 and D archetype I picture corner 3s but Lonzo off ball would be better served up high

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Monday, 1 March 2021 19:15 (three years ago) link

inspired my magic’s literal take on this thread

Tyler Herro is averaging 17 PPG, Duncan Robinson 13 PPG, and Bam Adebayo is averaging 19 PPG, 10 RPG, and is shooting 56% from the field!

stats but with exclamation points isn't much of a gimmick but i'll take it over shaq's

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Monday, 1 March 2021 20:09 (three years ago) link

i know its been said but a nice aspect of magics twitter is that he sited not being able to tweet what he wants as a reason for quitting the lakers

lag∞n, Monday, 1 March 2021 20:12 (three years ago) link

re: lonzo, stan van said that he wants him to be a point guard in transition and a wing in the half court, and the brandon ingram/zion tandem is more than enough to create offense without a traditional point.

John Wall tonight:

14 PTS
0 REB
0 AST
0 STL
0 BLK
0 3PM
4-16 FG

He is the first player with a 10/0/0/0/0/0 statline on 25% shooting or worse since JR Smith in 2012. Wall is the first starter to do so since 1985. pic.twitter.com/J8N7O15Is2

Jimmy 29-7-9-5-1

jimmy averaged 21-9-9-2 in feb, at 28-5-9-3 in march so far. he fell off ppl’s radars bcuz he was banged up at the beginning of the season and then missed 2 weeks with covid but he’s low key reinvented his game and is having the best season of his career. sixth in the league in PER behind jokic, embiid, giannis, kawhi and zion

J0rdan S., Monday, 15 March 2021 06:26 (three years ago) link

julius randle, zach lavine and sabonis made the all star game over him lmao i was sorta happy bcuz he seems like the kind of psycho who will be motivated by that for like 2 years

J0rdan S., Monday, 15 March 2021 06:30 (three years ago) link

i think all those guys deserved it over him at that time but of course none of them are as good/impactful. but yah def that type of 'snub' is the kinda thing that fuels guys like him.

The Heat were 6-12 when Jimmy Butler returned from Covid. They were 22nd in defensive rating.

They have since gone 15-6 and have had the league’s 2nd best defense. They are now 4th in the East.

Jimmy has averaged 23 PPG, 8 RPG, 9 APG, 2 SPG in that span. pic.twitter.com/Dol8w5Q9eH

Is luka gonna do that Jokic thing where he comes to preseason all fat and then plays into shape over the next 4 months? Until one day 6/7 years into his career he’ll finally decide to start taking care of his body year round.

Luka Doncic got off to a slow start this season.

December:
23.8 PPG
45.2 eFG%
.250 W%

January:
28.3 PPG
53.4 eFG%
.467 W%

February:
30.3 PPG
56.7 eFG%
.667 W%

March:
31.1 PPG
62.6 eFG%
.714 W%

He’s balling now. pic.twitter.com/4ey5g9ws7Z

i might suggest that at least some of the time these centers are open from 3 not because the defense wants them to be but because they are being guarded by centers, who tend to be bad at guarding the the 3pt line, also! if youre getting open looks and can knock them down at good rate then take them, who cares if the defense wants you to, lol theyre wrong
