Good news, SF parents!

This means the school board that wasted the last year preventing the current superintendent from hiring a team to write a COVID plan last June and instead wasted months on renaming schools gets to choose your next superintendent! https://t.co/DlxFPiPndI

Has anyone else been getting phone calls from CVS? I've missed them all, and I don't have my voicemail password ... I assume they're all along the lines of "we have a vaccine for you if you come RIGHT NOW"

lukas, Wednesday, 17 March 2021 19:23 (three years ago) link

I don't think I have, but I haven't registered with them.

My coworker suggested CVS for the J&J vaccine, but when I went to the website, I didn't fall into any group that they were currently offering them to.

Andy the Grasshopper, Wednesday, 17 March 2021 19:40 (three years ago) link

I haven't registered with them either! Maybe I used to pick up prescriptions there >10 years ago?

the dude on the stretcher looks familiar?

sarahell, Wednesday, 17 March 2021 23:13 (three years ago) link

Jesus christ... probably the last time he tries something like that, the bum.

Andy the Grasshopper, Wednesday, 17 March 2021 23:20 (three years ago) link

was the guy on the stretcher the attacker? ... I swear, he looks super familiar

sarahell, Wednesday, 17 March 2021 23:21 (three years ago) link

maybe it's just that he kinda looks like Ariel Pink idk

sarahell, Wednesday, 17 March 2021 23:22 (three years ago) link

Yeah, he's in handcuffs. She whacked him good with a what looks like a piece of pallet.

But she looks pretty injured as well, and is obviously traumatized... what a low-life crud that dude is.

Andy the Grasshopper, Wednesday, 17 March 2021 23:24 (three years ago) link

I have friends who skipped the line, trying real hard not to be judgmental.

lukas, Thursday, 18 March 2021 18:07 (three years ago) link

I'm pretty sure the online evaluation for qualifying health conditions that we have here is based on the honor system, and I have no doubt people are gaming it

Mr. Cacciatore (Moodles), Thursday, 18 March 2021 18:11 (three years ago) link

xp - ditto - i was offered a "cheat code" by one, "just tell them you work in food service" my friend said. Like, my closest rationale for that is that occasionally I do clerical work in a restaurant that is currently closed. ... I could say I work in "emergency services" in re housing habitability, but honestly, I am really just a courier and occasionally take pictures of things, and am there for like 15 minutes at a time and can easily be masked up ... I will wait for my 1c, essential worker, healthy adult under 50 tier.

sarahell, Thursday, 18 March 2021 18:53 (three years ago) link

I'm getting jealous, I won't lie. But not cutting the line.

DJI, Thursday, 18 March 2021 19:03 (three years ago) link

honestly, I fear that I will be one of the people that gets sick for a couple days after the vaccine and I currently can't afford to take those sick days, so ... idk

sarahell, Thursday, 18 March 2021 19:05 (three years ago) link

can you get the shot on a Friday or something? (assuming you have weekends off)

lukas, Thursday, 18 March 2021 19:16 (three years ago) link

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

I have no days off ... okay, I generally try to carve out one day a week to take off work

sarahell, Thursday, 18 March 2021 19:32 (three years ago) link

ah :|

lukas, Thursday, 18 March 2021 19:39 (three years ago) link

my wife got really sick after the second shot, but only for a day and a half.

akm, Thursday, 18 March 2021 19:40 (three years ago) link

same with my friend's wife ... but she got sick a couple days after, not immediately so ...

sarahell, Thursday, 18 March 2021 20:46 (three years ago) link

not the cheat code friend, a different friend, who is older and his wife takes care of his 90 year old mother who has diabetes and alzheimers

sarahell, Thursday, 18 March 2021 20:47 (three years ago) link

I'm gonna wait until Kaiser Permanente (health care provider) basically emails and tells me that one is waiting for me... I feel like there are SO many people that should be ahead of me, including every single prisoner in the U.S.

Andy the Grasshopper, Thursday, 18 March 2021 20:53 (three years ago) link

lol I don't want to think about the vaccine priority of Derrick Almena, but I guess he isn't in prison anymore so ...

sarahell, Thursday, 18 March 2021 21:19 (three years ago) link

My healthcare provider is One Medical, which got caught helping folks (presumably rich techies) skip the line, so ... I'm probably in the back of the back of the line. I take a perverse satisfaction in them getting caught, though.

lukas, Thursday, 18 March 2021 21:35 (three years ago) link

Is One Medical like WeSick or am I thinking of some other techie health entity

sarahell, Thursday, 18 March 2021 21:39 (three years ago) link

I dunno WeSick. One Medical is "what if a network of GPs, but you schedule with an app" pretty much.

lukas, Thursday, 18 March 2021 21:49 (three years ago) link

One Medical has brick & mortar locations, I think... there is some new one where everything happens on your phone ("unlimited 24/7 access to trained physicians!") which is like something out a Phillip K Dick story.

Andy the Grasshopper, Thursday, 18 March 2021 21:49 (three years ago) link

I guess you hold the phone to your chest so they can hear your heart.

Andy the Grasshopper, Thursday, 18 March 2021 21:51 (three years ago) link

I use OneMedical FWIW, via my UCSF coverage. All the staff I've seen have been solid, good experiences all around when it comes to specialist referrals from there. But that vaccine weirdness did bemuse. (Before anyone asks, my shots were also due to UCSF/DPH employment.)

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 18 March 2021 21:55 (three years ago) link

Yeah I should say all the doctors and nurses I've interacted with at One Medical have been fine folks. It's just that getting caught doing something Bad is so at variance with their brand, I couldn't help but laugh.

lukas, Thursday, 18 March 2021 21:59 (three years ago) link

WeSick was a friend's name for one of those app-based health networks ... but I think it was a newer one that basically sounded like WeWork but for health care

sarahell, Thursday, 18 March 2021 22:05 (three years ago) link

One Medical is just a medical group; my longtime primary care doctor moved there a while ago. It's pretty handy actually because you do get access to other docctors for telemedicine.

there are plenty of other telemedicine things, one of the biggest is GoodRX which purchased a company called HeyDoctor which is app based. I only know about this because I interviewed with them last week and they already passed on me so they can fuck off (not really, they seem fine, I actually recommended them to a friend whose doctor was going to charge her $400 for a telemedicine visit to refill a prescription)

akm, Thursday, 18 March 2021 22:07 (three years ago) link

"One Medical, which got caught helping folks (presumably rich techies) skip the line" tbc this was a 'C-level executive got his friends to jump the line' it wasn't like the company was facilitating this on a large scale (I don't think).

akm, Thursday, 18 March 2021 22:07 (three years ago) link

ah okay, good to know

lukas, Thursday, 18 March 2021 22:54 (three years ago) link

At this rate SF would get to 70% vaccinated in about a month. Racing b117, but I feel cautiously optimistic.

lukas, Friday, 19 March 2021 00:05 (three years ago) link

My husband’s coworker drove down from Sonoma to get in line at 4.30am for those extra vaccines and had to wait 6 hrs. She and her husband were really sick for like 36 hrs afterwards. Hard to feel bad since I’m pretty sure those extra vaccine places are supposed to help the underprivileged get vaccinated.

I feel like I’ve managed to go a year without catching Covid so I’m not in a hurry to get the vaccine. I’ll wait till I’m called up by kaiser - I got an email that I qualify for a medical reason (I’m assuming it’s my BMI?) so I think it’ll probably be May.

just1n3, Friday, 19 March 2021 01:35 (three years ago) link

xpost yeah it's starting to zip along pretty readily at this point.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 19 March 2021 01:37 (three years ago) link

Kaiser appears to have gotten more vaccine supply. I qualify as a health care worker & when I looked at scheduling today, they have lots of appointments.

that's not my post, Friday, 19 March 2021 01:46 (three years ago) link

yeah, afaik One Medical got hung out to dry for not aggressively policing the claims of people who successfully scheduled appointments...

Larry Elleison (rogermexico.), Friday, 19 March 2021 01:48 (three years ago) link

...which Kaiser is basically doing rn, along with a number of clinics.

Larry Elleison (rogermexico.), Friday, 19 March 2021 01:49 (three years ago) link

if you qualify, please make an appointment. more people vaccinated helps everyone.

that's not my post, Friday, 19 March 2021 01:49 (three years ago) link

everyone qualifies rn is the point. you have to sign an affidavit that you pinky swear you’re in a qualified group, but that’s it. entire rollout kinda a cluster rn.

Larry Elleison (rogermexico.), Friday, 19 March 2021 01:50 (three years ago) link

if I eat enough burritos at lunch I can get my BMI within spitting distance of 30

Larry Elleison (rogermexico.), Friday, 19 March 2021 01:51 (three years ago) link

they weren't really validating before either; my wife qualified because she works for the school district, we guess? it wasn't clear at all...but they let her sign up and at no point did anyone ever ask for any documentation.

akm, Friday, 19 March 2021 03:16 (three years ago) link

which is why NPR going after One Medical for the same damn thing is so galling. net result: One Medical receives no more vaccine, we all lose.

Larry Elleison (rogermexico.), Friday, 19 March 2021 11:36 (three years ago) link

This is patently false and perhaps one of the worst things I've read on this thread (which is full of quite a bit of typical entitled SF/Bay Area bullshit).

According to the CDPH*, you are eligible to be vaccinated:

If you are 65+ years old

or work in:

Childcare
Education
Emergency services
Food and agriculture
Health care
Long-term care facilities
Public transit/airports and commercial airlines
Congregate (group) residential settings (shelters, jails, group homes)

Please don't skip your turn, even if you try to justify it with some lame excuse.

My friend (SF native)'s uncle died last night of COVID. He had been hospitalized/ventilator-ed since valentine's day.

For the data-driven + empathy-challenged folks, his tick will show up on the graph tomorrow:

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Friday, 19 March 2021 17:12 (three years ago) link

That pretty much matches the email I got from Kaiser yesterday:

We’re now vaccinating people 16 to 64 whose medical conditions may put them at higher risk of complications due to COVID-19. Since we’re aware of each of our member’s medical history, we’re already reaching out to those who have these conditions to schedule a vaccine appointment.

We’re also vaccinating those who live in congregate (group) settings, people 65 and older, and people who work in:

Childcare
Education
Emergency services
Food and agriculture
Health care
Long-term care facilities
Public transit/airports and commercial airlines
Congregate (group) residential settings (shelters, jails, group homes)

I don't fit into any of these groups, I'll bide my time.
