My grandad died on the hill of reno, sucking ass

Marry and Neghim (darraghmac), Friday, 12 March 2021 19:19 (three years ago) link

it's unbearably hot then quite cold. dry as a bone. no culture. car city. everyone's a libertarian. sky is darkened by wildfire smoke an increasing amount of days per year. it's true you can drive an hour or more to get somewhere nicer i guess.

Its a similar story with Stoke on Trent and its branches of Card Factory, most (but perhaps crucially not all!) appear to be in adjacent areas, though opinions are fairly divided on what counts as Stoke on Trent proper, and what is just another shade of gray

Reno has great pawn shops, and a short drive to Virginia City which is pretty fun and has one of the best pioneer cemeteries anywhere.

i've been to stoke on trent and reno. neither is great tbh.

I have also been to both, Reno just shades it for me, but on the other hand Stoke on Trent is easier to leave

Johnny Cash never shot a man in Stoke on Trent just to watch him die

Bastard Lakes (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Friday, 12 March 2021 19:37 (three years ago) link

Tony Pulis was in charge at the time, Cash was rarely able to leave his own half, was never even in shooting range

he was too busy getting his ass sucked by darraghmacā€™s grandad

Ok, "easy one"

Nothing on the radar yet. If I get one I usually have a sense as a starting point and then close in from there, but I got nothing so far!

cherry blossom, Saturday, 13 March 2021 07:22 (three years ago) link

well I've managed to rule out Finland and Iceland because their No Entry signs use a yellow stripe on red and Greece because they use a shorter white stripe!

calzino, Saturday, 13 March 2021 09:31 (three years ago) link

Could be Spain? But I'd be surprised if another pick wasn't needed here

or something, Saturday, 13 March 2021 09:36 (three years ago) link

Bit early for another pic!

My first though was Italy. And I'm going to hazard a guess theres a decent sized drop to a wider valley below

I was thinking Greece too

Looks vaguely Czech... but also LHD so I don't think so.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Saturday, 13 March 2021 21:47 (three years ago) link

LHD or a one-way street?

it looks a bit like my fave childhood Czech mole, Krtek, on the roundabout at first glance.

calzino, Saturday, 13 March 2021 21:52 (three years ago) link

it looks weirdly like a specific place in Majorca i've been to but i guess not

I had the same kinda feeling re Funchal, for some reason, incl i-guess-not.

anatol_merklich, Saturday, 13 March 2021 23:38 (three years ago) link

The first pic I thought slightly resembled some fancy-ass hotel I stayed in Peru but the 2nd pic def feels more Euro.

Looks more like Pingu. Where do they have penguins? Argentina? Chile?

Woke For Luck (Tom D.), Saturday, 13 March 2021 23:59 (three years ago) link

which country has a penguin in a red hard hat?

calzino, Sunday, 14 March 2021 00:26 (three years ago) link

Wales

scamp til you're damp (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 14 March 2021 00:28 (three years ago) link

I can't tell if it is a type I or type II hard hat, need that 3d photo historic-future tech that Deckard has at hand in Blade Runner to sort this out.

calzino, Sunday, 14 March 2021 00:37 (three years ago) link

he could be a puffin tbf

scamp til you're damp (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 14 March 2021 00:41 (three years ago) link

Googling "penguin in a red hard hat" proved surprisingly popular in that there's a Disney game called Club Penguin where a red hard hat appears to be a prize but that's as far as I got. It seems to have been popular everywhere and I'm too tired to try and narrow it down right now, way past bed time

or something, Sunday, 14 March 2021 01:38 (three years ago) link

*Proved surprisingly fruitful even, told you I was tired

Mistah Club Penguin, he dead

scamp til you're damp (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 14 March 2021 01:44 (three years ago) link

I've lost my reading glasses for closely looking at stuff and I'm overdue an eye-test by 2 years but I think now it might be a woolly hat rather that a hard hat.

calzino, Sunday, 14 March 2021 01:45 (three years ago) link

looks like a coil of red poop to me

map ca. 1890 (map), Sunday, 14 March 2021 01:52 (three years ago) link

I think the inscrutability of this one possibly points to sub-tropical China, but also lazily guessed because Cam has lived there.

calzino, Sunday, 14 March 2021 02:07 (three years ago) link

I "love" how this was first posted as "easy one"...

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Sunday, 14 March 2021 02:22 (three years ago) link

I thought the penguin was wearing a Devo energy dome (but I'm working off of limited sleep tbqh)

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Sunday, 14 March 2021 02:23 (three years ago) link

is it in DEVOn?

StanM, Sunday, 14 March 2021 03:32 (three years ago) link

I'm getting more of a South American vibe off this one, at first glance

cherry blossom, Sunday, 14 March 2021 03:52 (three years ago) link

The guy in front of the little green truck thing, I don't see anyone in Europe wearing that hat

cherry blossom, Sunday, 14 March 2021 04:52 (three years ago) link

Yes, definite South American vibe.
