Not sure how insane it is, but Ben Simmons has never lost to the Knicks (13-0).

Is luka gonna do that Jokic thing where he comes to preseason all fat and then plays into shape over the next 4 months? Until one day 6/7 years into his career he’ll finally decide to start taking care of his body year round.

Luka Doncic got off to a slow start this season.

December:
23.8 PPG
45.2 eFG%
.250 W%

January:
28.3 PPG
53.4 eFG%
.467 W%

February:
30.3 PPG
56.7 eFG%
.667 W%

March:
31.1 PPG
62.6 eFG%
.714 W%

He’s balling now. pic.twitter.com/4ey5g9ws7Z

The gap between LeBron and Carmelo is 16,738 minutes, more minutes than Rudy Gobert has played in his 8-year career.

i might suggest that at least some of the time these centers are open from 3 not because the defense wants them to be but because they are being guarded by centers, who tend to be bad at guarding the the 3pt line, also! if youre getting open looks and can knock them down at good rate then take them, who cares if the defense wants you to, lol theyre wrong

lag∞n, Wednesday, 24 March 2021 19:05 (three years ago) link

yes, i think that article saying "it's what the defense wants" is a pretty major oversimplification. if a ballhandler drives, the defensive 5 leaves the perimeter to contest, and the ballhandler finds the offensive 5 for a wide-open 3, i don't think that's what the defense wanted per se.

also his big chart is full of a bunch of guys who play mostly the 4, unless you can show me contest% when the guy is actually playing the 5 i don't think it's very informative.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 24 March 2021 19:31 (three years ago) link

yep, i have lots of problems with that article (to say nothing of his annoying lede - how many stretch 5s did "we" think there were?).

in addition to lagoon's good point, doesn't the fact that (some of) the actually effective stretch 5s nonetheless get uncontested looks actually highlight the value of the stretch 4-5? Like, the players guarding them have been forced to choose between protecting the paint or trying to stay with their man. I would imagine that some percentage of contested 3s from guards and wings are contested because their defenders don't have that conundrum.

yup

wiggins island baby

Out of the 18 players that have guarded 600+ shot attempts this year, only 5 are holding opponents to under 45% from the field.

Gobert
Turner
Boucher
Poeltl
Wiggins

Boucher and Wiggins are also currently at 40% from 3
