tough call between Ministry and Vomit Launch

sarahell, Sunday, 21 March 2021 02:08 (three years ago) link

I think Vomit Launch.

emil.y, Monday, 22 March 2021 19:20 (three years ago) link

Voted Front 242.

it's like edging for your mind (the table is the table), Tuesday, 23 March 2021 21:57 (three years ago) link

that was going to be my vote but when for a more popish song "Cartoon."

Bee OK, Tuesday, 23 March 2021 23:08 (three years ago) link

Always going to vote for Cartoon.

pplains, Wednesday, 24 March 2021 00:18 (three years ago) link

"Cartoon" is underrated for sure but "Louie Louie" is Dez's first vocal and among his finest moments (of many) in Black Flag:

"Who needs love when you've gotta gun"

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Wednesday, 24 March 2021 04:05 (three years ago) link

two weeks pass...

I put this up well in advance just to make sure I did but now I have had a look at it:

Classics:

NoMeansNo - The Day Everything Became Nothing (1988, The Day Everything Became Nothing 12")
Helmet - Repetition (1990, Strap It On LP)
Front 242 - Headhunter (1988, Headhunter 12")
Butthole Surfers - Human Cannonball (1987, Locust Abortion Technician LP)
Dr Janet - Starry Eyes (1990, Ten Years Gone 7")
Screaming Trees - Transfiguration (1987, Even If And Especially When LP)
Ministry - Stigmata (1988, The Land Of Rape And Honey LP)

There was only ever going to be one winner here tbh.

Dr Janet was a "super group" made up of Yo La Tengo, Screaming Trees, Das Damen & Chavez members, covering a song by the Records which we both loved. And I tracked down the 7" shortly after we got married. I loved you Babs.

a lot of the punkier/metaller songs were probably played by her friend Sonia that she fell out with for reasons unknown, they were like 18/19 so assume teenage drama

CP Radio Gorgeous (Colonel Poo), Saturday, 10 April 2021 04:52 (three years ago) link

xp Which Das Damen & Chavez members??

Yawnsomely Literal Cover Band (morrisp), Saturday, 10 April 2021 05:30 (three years ago) link

let me google that for you:

Gary Lee Conner: Screaming Trees
Ira Kaplan: Yo La Tengo
Lyle Hysen: Das Damen
Matt Sweeney: Chavez

Wow... did not know about that. Awesome. Can you look up the tracks on YouTube for me as well??

Yawnsomely Literal Cover Band (morrisp), Saturday, 10 April 2021 05:49 (three years ago) link

what the fuck is wrong with you

CP Radio Gorgeous (Colonel Poo), Saturday, 10 April 2021 05:50 (three years ago) link

(?)I’m genuinely interested in what you’re posting about (the YouTube thing was a joke at my own expense). Sorry to get yr hackles up somehow

Yawnsomely Literal Cover Band (morrisp), Saturday, 10 April 2021 06:02 (three years ago) link

morrisp was probably just discussing music in the first post

he was being sarcastic in the second

haha, xopst

Bee OK, Saturday, 10 April 2021 06:08 (three years ago) link

ok sorry if you were genuinely interested than I'm sorry I flipped on you, but I made this post about my wife who passed away last year, which you probably didn't know about, and maybe it was just a bad idea I did this. But no you can look those songs up on Youtube or we can just forget about ever caring about this again.

CP Radio Gorgeous (Colonel Poo), Saturday, 10 April 2021 06:10 (three years ago) link

I'm sorry for your loss Colonel Poo

Bee OK, Saturday, 10 April 2021 06:14 (three years ago) link

I am sorry, I did not know that. (Re-reading your post, I realize that I missed the context.)

Yawnsomely Literal Cover Band (morrisp), Saturday, 10 April 2021 06:19 (three years ago) link

first of all i have to say that i love the concept and execution of this post, cp. everything about it agrees with my worldview. what a nice reminder of your wife. it makes me smile man. seriously good vibes.

and i don't know what it is —maybe the replies, or maybe i'm just a delicate flower— but it has broken me. i am sitting here with tears rolling down my face as i type. the last year has been so absolutely brutal for everyone and everything. and just when we think there's a light, the tunnel gets darker. i'm fucking tired of it. everyone is constantly just emotionally reeling and unable to get our collective balance again. why is this world the way it is? what can we do to get through it? can we ever be sentient, content and idle, even just for a bit? maybe with posts like this?

idk man. i have no words. i don't even know your real name, but man you're such a good person. i am feeling such intense sadness for your right now that i am literally angry.

i am so sorry for your loss.

smashing post. voted giant sand.☮

Totally different head. Totally. (Austin), Saturday, 10 April 2021 16:41 (three years ago) link

hi CP <3

this is super sweet. I still need to digitize a bunch of old shows.

I LOVE that Flaming Lips song but had to go with Ministry

I'm guessing this is the same Sonja I knew from (just after) then, still friends on FB. Such small circles the world can give us. I didn't say it earlier but it really is a lovely project you've done here.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 10 April 2021 18:31 (three years ago) link

probably quite likely it is the same Sonja

CP Radio Gorgeous (Colonel Poo), Saturday, 10 April 2021 20:28 (three years ago) link

I also very much appreciated this, CP.

Missed this poll. Wow, small world - I was an undergrad at UCI when Molotov Cocktail was on (I graduated in 1992) and I recall listening to it when I could.

Would have voted for Firehose.
