Is that where Bin Laden got his?

Duncan Disorderly (Tom D.), Sunday, 21 March 2021 17:08 (three years ago) link

Oh, that was the curiously named Abbottabad!

Duncan Disorderly (Tom D.), Sunday, 21 March 2021 17:09 (three years ago) link

I was going to say: that looks like a Kahn building, and it looks like a university campus.

Boston? Somewhere on the T I should think.

Canon in Deez (silby), Monday, 22 March 2021 21:24 (three years ago) link

it's definitely some sort of subway wayfinding graphic decal on the entry doors to the installation on the right and it looks T-ish to me

Looks like it could be almost any American city that has some underground rail near a big parking garage, ie. most of them.

o. nate, Monday, 22 March 2021 22:16 (three years ago) link

Multiple pedestrian signals + protected cycling infrastructure makes me think this is not just *any* American city (though the 9 story parking garage next to the transit center seems kinda suburban or urban-suburban?)

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Monday, 22 March 2021 22:35 (three years ago) link

Boston?

calzino, Monday, 22 March 2021 22:38 (three years ago) link

That’s what I said!

Going a very different direction here but...

that's a us no parking sign. looks like forsythia about to bloom - google says it's in growing zones 5-9, doesn't narrow it down too much except it's not the far north. something about the size and spacing of the buildings suggests not-the-east-coast to me. brown leaves in the gutters. could be anywhere. columbus? indianapolis? omaha?

John Cooper of Christian rock band Skillet (map), Monday, 22 March 2021 23:05 (three years ago) link

There is something odd about the bike lane stencil, notably the wheels.

Alaska?

My only clue was that the silver car’s license plate could be New York

rob, Monday, 22 March 2021 23:16 (three years ago) link

so little to go on here, but the sign in front of the blue pole looks pretty distinctive

Bastard Lakes (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Monday, 22 March 2021 23:27 (three years ago) link

I don't think I'm right, but this reminds me of when I was in Baltimore.

hourspass, Monday, 22 March 2021 23:29 (three years ago) link

There's a blue A on those doors. Those bike stencils are definitely in use in California, probably elsewhere too though.

you aren't allowed to start swaggering till you nail an obscure one that isn't in your own country 😉

i don't actually understand how you guys do this.

cherry blossom, Tuesday, 23 March 2021 21:15 (three years ago) link

In this case, I recently saw that building in person and remembered it. Sometimes it seems people use different techniques than this.

treeship., Tuesday, 23 March 2021 21:17 (three years ago) link

that's not forsythia, it's a tree :|

John Cooper of Christian rock band Skillet (map), Tuesday, 23 March 2021 21:21 (three years ago) link

did you have any good buffalo wings there treeship?

John Cooper of Christian rock band Skillet (map), Tuesday, 23 March 2021 21:22 (three years ago) link

In this case, I recently saw that building in person and remembered it.

I misread this as you recognized a person outside the building

cherry blossom, Tuesday, 23 March 2021 21:25 (three years ago) link

I had good buffalo wings, thanks map. There are great breweries in buffalo too—my favorite was called the big ditch brewing company.

Buffalo is one of those cities where many people I know have spent a significant amount of time because of the Poetics program at the SUNY campus there, but I have never been. All I know about it is snow, snow, and more snow.

it's like edging for your mind (the table is the table), Tuesday, 23 March 2021 21:40 (three years ago) link

Hah yeah my memory of Buffalo was 25+ feet of snow, it amazes me there is any bicycle infrastructure at all.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Tuesday, 23 March 2021 21:41 (three years ago) link

Apparently it is absolutely perfect in the summer, which I don't doubt.

I’ve never been but Buffalo to me means Julius Eastman and Morton Feldman...

That Buffalo pic might be the first photo itt of a street I've walked down (not that I would've ever recognised it).

Weymouth isn't a city?

Duncan Disorderly (Tom D.), Wednesday, 24 March 2021 17:50 (three years ago) link

four minutes, is that a record?

joni mitchell jarre (anagram), Wednesday, 24 March 2021 17:51 (three years ago) link

I think this game is allowed to play a little fast & loose with the definition of a city

xp

joni mitchell jarre (anagram), Wednesday, 24 March 2021 17:52 (three years ago) link

It's difficult enough!

Duncan Disorderly (Tom D.), Wednesday, 24 March 2021 17:54 (three years ago) link
