Echoing Lily Dale, I really hope Neanderthal doesn't leave. He's a good source of levity and humor around here, which is in short supply as of late. But I also know COVID overload is wreaking havoc with people's temperaments and mental health, so I can understand the need for a break.

Anyone who's upset by the mean things people say on this board should remember that there are 15 million posts on here. It all passes out the bottom of Site New Answers and gets forgotten soon enough.

Everyone is hypersensitive atm or hyperpeevish or perhaps even vacillating between those states with an occasional stopover in hypersadland or hyperblitzedville. In short, we're all varying degrees of A Mess right now so it doesn't hurt to strive for kindness. Also, PS, Neanderthal (and anyone else who needs it) is allowed to take a break but not allowed to leave. It is forbidden.

sarahell was wrong, i wasn't complaining about the bumping of the modreq thread at all! if anything i entered the bump to cleebrate a classic estela post. the original thread had been good knockabout fun except for the bit where my abusive and vile ex-wife commandeered my account to abuse sarahell and Whiney reposted it in, which sarahell obviously saw again this time around and was affected by (am still sorry I let her do that ngl), but yeah I had just been having a bit of a snipe at the farting thread and all it took was for comrade gyac to join in and yerman here had another episode

Oof, that's some history. I could understand why that would lead to grief, but... this IS mostly about the farting songs thread, it seems.

I can't seem to find the button on the admin menu that gives me mod powers of "bang posters' heads together and get them to play nice". Everyone's having a tough time right now and this just seems silly to have a blow-out over.

I must be really naïve because I got the impression that everyone was feeling chiller on ILX lately and that the more controversy-happy posters had either left or mellowed out.

one thing everyone should keep in mind, not just this month, but always, is that people always have a lot more going on than they share. That may be relatively untrue for me, because i've been oversharing about the hell i'm in for about a month now. but even then, trust me, you're only getting like the most palatable 10% of what i'm dealing with. knowing just a tiny bit about neanderthal's life, i know enough to know that there is a lot more going on. so maybe cut everybody a break

Speaking for myself, I posted that I got the Rona and, while I don't want to say I regretted it, that's maybe as far as I would go.

Also worth noting particularly at this time that if you're inclined to be all 'aw, toughen up!' towards someone here, it could be that they've used up all their toughenin' on matters of more consequence and are here just to relax + blow off steam so when you have a go at them, it stings a little more than it might in other venues.

im not hopefully being too much of an arsehole when id gently point out as a corollary to km's (typically) considerate and kind interjection above that everyone may or may not be going through this electric word 'life' at a more or less intense degree at any one time but that is *also* a reason to not *constantly* lean on the board overly much either for ones own frazzled good or for the good of the many other posters who maybe dont vocalise as much but can in my observation be prone to getting frazzled themselves if the constant background energy of the board is eh frazzling.

nb i am not authoritative nor perhaps typical of how ilxors use the shared community resource of the collective ilx emotional cushion i merely offer the minority argument vis a vis neanderthal with a genuine hope that he takes whatever time he needs and comes back in decent shape

I was going through a bad time personally this last 6 months, and Neanderthal and gyac both took time out to be really nice to me and I want to say thanks to both of them. I was also very touchy and flounced off the board (in a low-key way as I am a pretty peripheral poster anyway, not sure anyone noticed) a couple of times in response to some fairly mild ribbing, so can appreciate what both old lunch and dmac are saying here.

it's just one of those thread types that is like, emil.y says, it's just people whiling away their time. meanwhile other posters while away their time complaining about these threads, and it is just one of the things that makes ILX what it is.
