Sadly no

the houses look like they might be big enough to be flats, which makes me think it's a biggish city.

Birmingham?

calzino, Friday, 2 April 2021 18:05 (three years ago) link

I think its a Tesco Extra. They seem to have slightly different designs from the other ones though I don't know what significance is

cherry blossom, Friday, 2 April 2021 18:13 (three years ago) link

Not Birmingham

Glasgow?

Madchen, Friday, 2 April 2021 18:44 (three years ago) link

I don't think this is the UK

cherry blossom, Friday, 2 April 2021 18:44 (three years ago) link

yeah there's something fishy about those houses.

old guy seems to be walking to the right hand side though, which suggest left hand drive.

dublin?

Thought the houses might be student accommodation

nashwan, Friday, 2 April 2021 18:59 (three years ago) link

There are also Tescos in Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

Duncan Disorderly (Tom D.), Friday, 2 April 2021 19:00 (three years ago) link

Not Glasgow or
Dublin

ignore the blue line (or something), Friday, 2 April 2021 19:06 (three years ago) link

Aren't those uk national lottery signs, at the end of the blue line?

Diggin Holes (Ste), Friday, 2 April 2021 19:15 (three years ago) link

Looks like it.

Duncan Disorderly (Tom D.), Friday, 2 April 2021 19:20 (three years ago) link

Torquay?

Vanishing Point (Chinaski), Saturday, 3 April 2021 09:21 (three years ago) link

It does look like the seaside. I feel like I've been there!

Duncan Disorderly (Tom D.), Saturday, 3 April 2021 09:34 (three years ago) link

I had that feeling as well! I walked that part of the coast a couple of years back and swear I walked up that street. There's probably a name for that. (Senility? Hiraeth?)

Vanishing Point (Chinaski), Saturday, 3 April 2021 09:52 (three years ago) link

getting more Plymouth vibes than Torquay if it is a coastal city, even though I've only ever seen it from a train! I checked a few Plymouth Tesco petrol stations and couldn't find a match for the one above.

calzino, Saturday, 3 April 2021 10:51 (three years ago) link

Neither of those

ignore the blue line (or something), Saturday, 3 April 2021 11:42 (three years ago) link

Looks a lot like the Mumbles but not finding anything similar on street view

(the one with 3 L's) (Willl), Saturday, 3 April 2021 12:52 (three years ago) link

those street lights make me think of somewhere posh, heritage-y, like richmond

koogs, Saturday, 3 April 2021 13:19 (three years ago) link

It's not Newcastle, is it?

Madchen, Sunday, 4 April 2021 16:35 (three years ago) link

London

Canon in Deez (silby), Sunday, 4 April 2021 16:36 (three years ago) link

No wait, I take that back.

bulb after bulb out of nowhere with the correct answer, well played

ignore the blue line (or something), Sunday, 4 April 2021 17:10 (three years ago) link

How did you do it?

ignore the blue line (or something), Sunday, 4 April 2021 17:10 (three years ago) link

don't you remember the time we went to Bangor?

Bastard Lakes (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Sunday, 4 April 2021 17:13 (three years ago) link

ha.

Was thinking Ireland, so GISed ferris wheel Ireland, looking for the blue stanchions.

bulb after bulb, Sunday, 4 April 2021 17:13 (three years ago) link

If you move forward in streetview that wheel disappears, guess it's not permanent. Thought I'd leave it in to make things easier after three days of increasingly sparse responses tho

ignore the blue line (or something), Sunday, 4 April 2021 17:18 (three years ago) link

I have such a knowledge of Tesco petrol station architecture variations now.

nashwan, Sunday, 4 April 2021 17:30 (three years ago) link

Feeling possibly somewhere in Wales

ā€• cherry blossom, Friday, 2 April 2021 08:07

I don't get it! Bangor was one of the first tesco's I checked on streetview but it doesn't look like that

cherry blossom, Sunday, 4 April 2021 17:34 (three years ago) link

This is Bangor in N Ireland

joni mitchell jarre (anagram), Sunday, 4 April 2021 17:37 (three years ago) link

They've put one there now as well?

cherry blossom, Sunday, 4 April 2021 17:40 (three years ago) link

Hey, spare a thought for me. I was streetviewing N Irish Tesco petrol stations this morning, there are two of them, I checked one of them (the wrong one, as it turns out) but for some unaccountable reason skipped over the second.

joni mitchell jarre (anagram), Sunday, 4 April 2021 17:42 (three years ago) link

^ two in Bangor, I mean

joni mitchell jarre (anagram), Sunday, 4 April 2021 17:43 (three years ago) link

another. Bangor.

rob, Sunday, 4 April 2021 17:50 (three years ago) link

It was meant to be: hadn't looked in on the thread in a few days and finished Great Granny Webster last night:

The Clandeboye Estate is a country estate located in Bangor, County Down, Northern Ireland, 12 miles (19 km) outside Belfast. . .

The estate is also the inspiration for Dunmartin Hall in the 1977 novel Great Granny Webster by Caroline Blackwood, who lived at the hall as a child.

(did not make this connection until after I found the ferris wheel, mind) great book!

lol, much appreciated

Blick, Bils & Blinky ā€¢ Let's Skip The Shaker Intros (breastcrawl), Sunday, 4 April 2021 18:41 (three years ago) link

I checked dozens of Tescos in Slovakia, Poland, Czechia and Hungary for this on Friday, started doing Ireland and N Ireland as well (on Saturday, I guess), but didnā€™t follow thru. Thereā€™s only so many Tesco stations a person can take in in one lifetime. I finally got a handle on navigating Streetview in the process, so it wasnā€™t all for nothing

Blick, Bils & Blinky ā€¢ Let's Skip The Shaker Intros (breastcrawl), Sunday, 4 April 2021 18:46 (three years ago) link

I'm still confused where the petrol station is

cherry blossom, Monday, 5 April 2021 08:24 (three years ago) link

Where Old Belfast road meets Killeen Ave

Diggin Holes (Ste), Monday, 5 April 2021 08:56 (three years ago) link

Ah, google maps put it in a slightly different location and I couldn't find it

cherry blossom, Monday, 5 April 2021 09:16 (three years ago) link

For a second I was like 'whoa is that a bear'

nashwan, Monday, 5 April 2021 10:19 (three years ago) link

Is this one of the many cities with extensive streetview coverage in Mexico that got referenced during the Salta guesses?
