dntel's been making amazing music forever (hit it big with a very popular duo in the 2000s and has been doing the right thing since then), brin's been pretty active for the last couple years doing sensory percussion stuff

Bongo Jongus, Sunday, 18 April 2021 02:14 (two years ago) link

this is also very good: https://colinalexanderfisher.bandcamp.com/album/reflections-of-the-invisible-world

Glad Colin's getting some love--he's a good friend of mine and in add'n to guitar he plays saxophone in a good am't of other projects here in Toronto incl. the odd-time-sig big band I lead
(forgive the self-promo, but it's maybe of interest to get a sense of our local left-field scene here):

Also xp while I haven't checked out the above collab release yet, there are a handful of tracks on the new Dntel album proper that particularly wowed me: https://dntel.bandcamp.com/track/after-all

here's another really nice/strange time travel type thing: https://obligations.bandcamp.com/releases

I guess this is more of a pop record than time travel (and it's from last year) but whatever, it's cool: https://yosapeit.bandcamp.com/album/phyton

Listening to that Yosa Peit record and I love it so far, definitely fits my definition of what this thread should be for. More mutated pop, please. (Am also tempted to steal heftily from this thread for my next radio show, sorry not sorry.)

These are some of the better things I've heard in a while

Re: that perfect angels record, it's really nice even tho it's mining the same sound that I feel every lazy musician is mining these days (or the past 5 years or whatever), but this project is done way better

That has deep early-to-mid 2000s energy, reminds me of Gang Wizard.

Kind regards, Anus (the table is the table), Tuesday, 7 September 2021 18:56 (two years ago) link

Yeah, I can see '00s no wave in there. Fun stuff.

Still doing my radio show, feel like it's been long enough since I flogged it here: https://www.mixcloud.com/citybeatradio/cryptophasia-021/

That's last month's show. Got another one coming up very soon and I've been too disorganised/preoccupied/depressed to really do much listening for it, so who knows how it'll go ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

emil.y, Tuesday, 14 September 2021 12:40 (two years ago) link

I've often found that it's those shows where I'd really pull it off, but when I was prepared, the show could easily go to shit. Hope you experience the same!

Oh hell yeah, that's some cool shit.

emil.y, Thursday, 23 September 2021 15:03 (two years ago) link

I'm pretty selective when it comes to glitchy experimental bc so much of it plods and kinda goes nowhere, but yea this sounds like it might be cool.

billstevejim, Thursday, 23 September 2021 15:12 (two years ago) link

Well, if we're posting that kind of thing, I'll crosspost something that I also posted to the post-post-post-deconstructed thread, this new 43-track audio sketchbook from Giza's 1127— traditional Egyptian music meets club music and noise. Unsettling and unpredictable, has made me think something is wrong with my speakers more than once. https://1127.bandcamp.com/album/bedroom-adrenalean-post-kovidclub

I'm a sovereign jazz citizen (the table is the table), Thursday, 23 September 2021 15:42 (two years ago) link

yeah despite ziurs behind the scenes presence idk it sounded weird and unclassifiable enough to me. bass level is def ‘club’ but it balances out the treble so it’s not as fatiguing as so much glitchy stuff is

Vapor waif (uptown churl), Thursday, 23 September 2021 16:26 (two years ago) link

yeh the ran cap album rules
been obsessed with 'images' for the last month

The new-ish Crazy Doberman record is really fucking me up right now, good shit, for fans of No-Neck and the sort of free ritual music they do.. https://astraldoberman.bandcamp.com/album/everyone-is-rolling-down-a-hill-or-the-journey-to-the-center-of-some-arcane-mystery-and-the-entanglements-of-the-vines-and-veins-of-the-cosmic-and-unwieldy-millieu-encountered-in-the-midst-of-tha

Machine Girl has been a busy doggie

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGnfL-js05A

There's 3, shortly 4 albums in the Prolaps Ultra Cycle. Now drowning gloriously in the third. All on Bandcamp and Spotify. Start at the beginning tho and let the insane avant-breaks odyssey begin

imago, Friday, 12 November 2021 12:03 (two years ago) link

glorious

nxd, Monday, 15 November 2021 19:17 (two years ago) link

Listened to part 2 of the third one just now. It builds in the most amazing way, just keeps getting better and better

Were you the one who recommended SEWERSLVT last year, imago?

I'm a sovereign jizz citizen (the table is the table), Monday, 15 November 2021 22:31 (two years ago) link

I wasn't! I've not really heard their stuff but I'm willing to try it. Was at a L'Rain gig just now btw, pretty great

imago, Monday, 15 November 2021 22:51 (two years ago) link

For some reason it seems in the same wheelhouse as the Prolaps thing.

I'm a sovereign jizz citizen (the table is the table), Monday, 15 November 2021 22:52 (two years ago) link

It was RYM-boosted avant-house with an explicitly queer agenda, so definitely the right wheelhouse yeah

I'm enjoying Stice, apparently related to the above-mentioned Machine Girl (who I haven't heard yet). First it was the fangs that drew me in, but now I find the tunes popping into my head every day, and I don't even mind!

some gorgeous gamalan:

https://divisi62.bandcamp.com/album/malar

"Uwalmassa shape their relationship with various forms of musical heritage into technical and stylish forms on Malar, marrying acoustic sonics with a contemporary outlook that reflects their Indonesian identity; evolving, mutating, and scavenging traditions to draw parallels to dance music, and to test the adaptability and flexibility of those sounds.

Here the collective go dark and deep in their first album-length collaboration with Mana, casting long shadows and moving snake style at speed across nine tracks. Using a mix of synthetic and acoustic instruments - the texture of Malar feels enigmatic, occasionally industrial, and the result magical in its mystery and fluctuating impact."

nxd, Friday, 18 February 2022 11:17 (two years ago) link

Ooh, dark gamalan sounds. This is great so far.
