Chapo adjacent podcast And Introducing is currently doing a very fun Our Band Could Be Your Life series of episodes, although if you've read the book, there's not a lot more going on, but fun to hear people chat about it. Felix is on the Replacements ep.

Regular pod releasing when you’re a one- or two-person operation can be a very difficult process

I am gearing up a new (film) pod, maybe, and it'll be monthly and a strictly limited run for exactly that reason lol

I used to do biweekly and am now monthly. Too much other work going on.

And Introducing is never really satisfying but I like Chris and Molly. It works much better when they’re into the band than only vaguely aware.

I’m still cracking up about a guy I knew starring a podcast in the early days, right after Apple latched on to the coining of “podcasts” starting one with a “beet” non-pun in the title and it just being him editing bad riffing with friends together they could have made it if he’d tried later. but not too late
― mh, Monday, 10 May 2021 03:22 (two years ago) link
releasing podcasts whenever you have something to say does not build you an audience. people just want their scheduled chatter on tuesdays and the fridays even if the quality wavers.
This is true from a business pov but frankly, as in other media, I'll always ride for the people who think "well fuck that" and just do whatever the fuck they want. So much more excited when a podcast w/ inconsistent regularity drops in my feed.
Simon, tell us more (perhaps on the podcasts thread)?

I think consistency is crucial, it's like anything, some weeks you just aren't going to be feeling it but you committed to doing it so you get it done.mine is also a (very small) part of a larger patreon funded thing so you have to deliver what you promisedI just feel like if you don't commit to a schedule (and not to say that it's not possible) 9/10 it's just going to fade outwhether it's monthly, weekly, whatever doesn't matter as much

or maybe that's me, I think even hobby stuff I have to make into a "job" in a sense especially in the sense of feeling like I owe it to other people to finish or I'll just procrastinate and let it go
― Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 10 May 2021 12:50 (two years ago) link
I think a consistent schedule is quite important for myself as a podcaster too, I just don't rate it at all as a listener.
― Daniel_Rf, Monday, 10 May 2021 13:13 (two years ago) link
yeah I would agree, I personally tend to fall behind then get in a mood and listen to like 3 in a rowI do feel like we are in the minority on that though
― Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 10 May 2021 13:19 (two years ago) link
Consistency yes, but it's consistency of schedule vs consistency of quality?

Elizabeth Bruenig knows that having children is a costly choice, but she wants to have children, and she thinks everyone else should pay for it. Christian nationalists approve this message.https://t.co/XtTXcXdwTP pic.twitter.com/3m2Hatm7rq— Joel M. Curzon 🇫🇷 (@JoelMCurzon) May 10, 2021

I'm troubled by Noah Smith's and Elizabeth Bruenig's white extinction anxiety, which imo informs their shared fixations on immigrant/latina/mexican motherhood. I wish publications hired latina critics and opinion writers. For now, everything is about us... yet without us.— Aura Bogado (@aurabogado) May 10, 2021

A bunch of very online people got very mad at a slightly less online person for the most anodyne column about how having kids is cool even if you’re not ready and the government should help you more.
If it starts to make sense, that’s when you should worry.
― Joe Bombin (milo z), Tuesday, 11 May 2021 18:23 (two years ago) link
it's pretty simple really, people hate her for being anti-abortion and look for any excuse to get mad at even her mildest op-eds about having kids even though she seems to take pains to never ever reference abortion (because she's not a complete dummy and knows there's absolutely no demand for a "left" anti-abortion position). I agree with everyone calling the op-ed boring tbh - I get it, you like having kids. in fact it's only the vitriolic responses that make them noteworthy at all xp

also it really seems like anti-natalism is becoming more prevalent online but that's just my feeling
― intern at pepe le pew research (Simon H.), Tuesday, 11 May 2021 18:27 (two years ago) link
having kids, and especially not being depressed about it, is an offense against people who can't have kids or don't want to have kids. And asking the government to fund things like pre-K and paid maternity leave is right wing because it encourages more white people to have kids. And birth rates.

I mean yes the responses are terrible but getting responses like that is the goal of the publication in running the piece (i.e. not Bruenig's goal in writing it, I would think)
And I was going to say that the blame thus lies with the publication, but they have been left with no financial path forward that doesn't involve either clickbait-mining like this or selling the headquarters to a hedge fund and firing all the reporters so I don't even know if blame is the right word

being anti-abortion is indefensible and it seriously bothers me how so much of the online left seems to think it's nbd. she is also transphobic

I actually have no idea btw, it just seemed like the thing to say
childcare, housing and education should be more affordable. this is a good goal of public policy. it will allow people who wish to become parents to be able to do so. it will also benefit people who do not wish to become parents, as everyone benefits when fewer people are in poverty. crime rates decrease, healthcare costs decrease, people have more time and energy to volunteer and invest in other pro-social behaviors, etc.
