I could go on. these people hate queers and disabled people and sex workers which includes most people I care about (I'm 2/3). this stuff isn't fucking subtle for its targets

Left, Tuesday, 11 May 2021 19:56 (two years ago) link

why do left wing catholics hate disabled people?

treeship., Tuesday, 11 May 2021 19:58 (two years ago) link

i wouldn't use the word hate but i understand what you mean on the other fronts.

treeship., Tuesday, 11 May 2021 19:58 (two years ago) link

not everyone I'm talking about is catholic. I'm pretty sure most of them are irreligious. there is a lot of contempt for people who don't or can't work as well as casual use of slurs & chan memes & more subtle plausibly deniable bullshit

Left, Tuesday, 11 May 2021 20:04 (two years ago) link

oh, are you talking about the "post left"? i agree with you. that scene is pretty toxic.

treeship., Tuesday, 11 May 2021 20:07 (two years ago) link

i don't see the bruenigs as part of that gang though

treeship., Tuesday, 11 May 2021 20:08 (two years ago) link

idk what that is. the people I'm talking about are generally (very online) left-liberal social democrats but with certain patterns of conservative or reactionary sympathies

Left, Tuesday, 11 May 2021 20:19 (two years ago) link

that said there are various anarcho / trot / tankie / ultraleft / nazbol sympathisers in their orbit

Left, Tuesday, 11 May 2021 20:22 (two years ago) link

clearly you’ve been putting a lot of time into forensically categorising the various sects of online leftism, far be it from me to speculate on your motivations for undertaking that work

is nazbol what they call nazis in philadelphia? do they read jawn kampf?

bruce spr!ngisH3r3 (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 11 May 2021 20:34 (two years ago) link

trots and tankies (i.e., stalinists) are, by definition, opposed to one another. as are "nazbols" -- which i'm not sure anyone actually identifies as -- and "ultraleft" or "anarchist" factions. what is this orbit?

treeship., Tuesday, 11 May 2021 20:38 (two years ago) link

nazbol is a real thing. eduard limonov and stuff. was in the most recent adam curtis.

《Myst1kOblivi0n》 (jim in vancouver), Tuesday, 11 May 2021 20:41 (two years ago) link

Left is a Jreg sideproject confirmed

imago, Tuesday, 11 May 2021 20:42 (two years ago) link

Nazbols, trots, tankies
We'd hear it from the people in the town

Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Tuesday, 11 May 2021 20:42 (two years ago) link

where do the maoist third worldists stand on liz bruenig?

《Myst1kOblivi0n》 (jim in vancouver), Tuesday, 11 May 2021 20:43 (two years ago) link

The only place I see the phrase "post-left" is Carl Beijer's Twitter and, now, ILX's own treeship

bruce spr!ngisH3r3 (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 11 May 2021 20:45 (two years ago) link

I assume it's just shorthand for "Red Scare Patreon subscribers"

Joe Bombin (milo z), Tuesday, 11 May 2021 20:46 (two years ago) link

fair enough, there was a nationalist bolshevik party in russia, and the actual nazi party had a "left wing" faction that was eventually purged. and left *is* right that there are people who want to create a political movement rooted in labor issues that eschews social liberalism, and that a lot of these people embrace right wing meme culture. (i am thinking of aimee terese). that's what i called the "post left." but i don't think they have much to do with the bruenigs and i think they have even less to do with "tankies" or any of these other groups.

treeship., Tuesday, 11 May 2021 20:46 (two years ago) link

xp

treeship., Tuesday, 11 May 2021 20:47 (two years ago) link

this is a p funny thread to knock someone for using a term that is obscure to you personally

rob, Tuesday, 11 May 2021 20:47 (two years ago) link

i am trying to put my toy soldiers in the right order.

treeship., Tuesday, 11 May 2021 20:49 (two years ago) link

Are we lumping Strasserites in with Nazbols now or do they get their own separate column?

Joe Bombin (milo z), Tuesday, 11 May 2021 20:50 (two years ago) link

c’mon lads let’s not do poster left’s work for free here

Where my Posadists at? (Bunkers, that's where.)

Joe Bombin (milo z), Tuesday, 11 May 2021 20:54 (two years ago) link

From what I gather, "post-left" is like the dirtbag leftists that refused to stop saying the r-word when everyone else did in 2016?

bruce spr!ngisH3r3 (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 11 May 2021 21:00 (two years ago) link

no. they are reactionaries, basically, who want to have economic leftism without any kind of social liberalism. often they are critical if not hostile to most left wing causes.

treeship., Tuesday, 11 May 2021 21:05 (two years ago) link

i feel like they are gadflies that orbit the left more than anything. my point was basically that someone like liz bruenig isn't really part of that group

treeship., Tuesday, 11 May 2021 21:12 (two years ago) link

which Left seemed to be implying. but maybe he wasn't.

treeship., Tuesday, 11 May 2021 21:12 (two years ago) link

also that 'anarcho-nazbol-trots' is one of the most absurd groupings possible

Joe Bombin (milo z), Tuesday, 11 May 2021 21:12 (two years ago) link

yeah that is what i was trying to say. these are different people .

treeship., Tuesday, 11 May 2021 21:15 (two years ago) link

Half of them aren't even people, just NSA honeypots.

Joe Bombin (milo z), Tuesday, 11 May 2021 21:15 (two years ago) link

lol

intern at pepe le pew research (Simon H.), Tuesday, 11 May 2021 21:17 (two years ago) link

i thought post-left was some nihilist/egoist/primitivist thing, have the red scare people appropriated it, it doesn't suit them

of course i know these various tendencies hate each other i was making the point that you have partisans of conceivable left and quasi left tendency weighing in with variations of the same tune. the main group is clearly just liberal though sometimes with marxist pretensions

Left, Tuesday, 11 May 2021 21:36 (two years ago) link

i may have spread my net too wide since this shit is not limited to whatever specific clique this was about but it's hard not to see it all as connected when they're all on the same anti-PC anti-radical left-IDW trip

Left, Tuesday, 11 May 2021 21:41 (two years ago) link

Twitter makes it difficult to parse political subcultures/trends, no doubt.

intern at pepe le pew research (Simon H.), Tuesday, 11 May 2021 21:43 (two years ago) link

also these ppl who supposedly want to centre labour issues instead of social issues (because you can separate those things apparently) also seem to think reproductive labour and emotional labour are fake things made up by liberal academics and that social reproduction just happens naturally somehow. matt bruenig literally said "the home" is "outside of labor relations" or some shit which speaks volumes about the limits of these ppl's politics xps

Left, Tuesday, 11 May 2021 21:48 (two years ago) link

i'm well aware i'm all over the place here

Left, Tuesday, 11 May 2021 21:49 (two years ago) link

xp maybe people should just do podcasts when they have something to say, i guess.

in twelve parts (lamonti), Tuesday, 11 May 2021 22:14 (two years ago) link

I’m pretty sure the post left is three people addicted to podcast drama and 4chan memes, I refuse to believe they have any engagement with the world beyond incessant posting.

JoeStork, Tuesday, 11 May 2021 22:15 (two years ago) link

yeah it's not post as in after it's post as in posting

intern at pepe le pew research (Simon H.), Tuesday, 11 May 2021 22:17 (two years ago) link

best out of the current-ish crop of posting leftists

the mai tai quinn (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 11 May 2021 22:25 (two years ago) link

“Post-left” is a real thing, but I think it’s only like 10 people online. I think they get a shit ton of attention because so many leftists online seem insecure as fuck and keep trying to root out those who aren’t True Believers, those who are betrayers, and the mythic “red-brown alliance.”

I think this is why Liz Bruenig gets so much hate and ire, because she may or may not hold a bad idea in her inner heart of hearts that she has never espoused publicly or from her platform.

Glower, Disruption & Pies (kingfish), Wednesday, 12 May 2021 17:00 (two years ago) link

If Bruenig's anti-abortion view leads her to favor more safety net policies to support poor mothers rather than favoring restriction of access then people's objections to it are really more in the rooting out thought-crime realm. See folks in this thread calling it "indefensible."

Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Wednesday, 12 May 2021 17:13 (two years ago) link

Yeah, a lot of it seems like leftover pathology of powerlessness stuff, where you have a bunch of folks who survived in their subculture for so long they can’t switch it from just being a subculture.

It’s like hardcore punk kids freaking out about keeping the scene pure, not trying to build a mass movement to actually change things

Glower, Disruption & Pies (kingfish), Wednesday, 12 May 2021 17:24 (two years ago) link

"thought crime" fuck you

Left, Wednesday, 12 May 2021 17:28 (two years ago) link

ha

Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Wednesday, 12 May 2021 17:29 (two years ago) link

basically the message is misogyny is ok as long as you support (reformist, imperialist, US-nationalist) socialism

remember when i brought up the russell brand thing a while back, it was because this is the same shit that keeps happening. the idea that certain people are just too important to be called out on their bullshit. it's SWP logic

Left, Wednesday, 12 May 2021 17:36 (two years ago) link

these reactions are just standard right wing anti-PC bullshit

Left, Wednesday, 12 May 2021 17:38 (two years ago) link

ok dude

Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Wednesday, 12 May 2021 17:41 (two years ago) link

this language is *routinely* used to defend rapists on the left
