I had a girl over to my room in college once and when she saw I had "Ariel" she snickered and said "oh my God."

i have "ariel" but i only bought it so cute boys would squeal with delight and marvel at my sensitivity.

I dont get the Plath hate, really. Hate some of her more rabid clueless fans sure, but some of her late poetry is fierce and lively, and I really like it a lot.

Her prose is shit, mind you.

ts: sylvia plath vs. ian curtis

I thought the Bell Jar was fantastic when I read it in high school. I was very disappointed with the boy in her story, though, and dismayed at the metaphor she used to describe his scrotum.

I will not repeat it here.

i will send an awful rowing towards god to anyone who sends me their copy of ariel, just so you know how to do femminist confessional poetry.

the bell jar is one of my favorite books. i like her prose more than her poetry.

what i REALLY don't get is this whole "anne sexton is better than sylvia plath" thing. she seems a LOT whinier and more rambling and self-indulgent to me than plath ever did.

I don't know any Sylvia Plath. S/D, anybody?

one of the women, a poetry teacher, reminds me of ileanna douglas' character in ghost world,

"Mirror ... Father.
Mirror ... Father"
