I tend to buy records by familiar artists and get a new one as well. Yesterday this meant buying: Fushitsushaaaaaa, Byron Morris, This Heat and fekkin'Slayer MAAAN. I am already a Haino fan but have as of now not yet heard any Slayer and Morris. I rented This Heat record a while back and LUURVED it. My point? Embrace alll musick.

There are reasons for buying a record by someone you already own a record from other than the desire to "make your collection deeper".

I don't buy strategically like this, because that would take the fun out of it. I buy things in front of me that I want to hear.

Does anyone actually think about what effect a record will have on their collection? I just buy stuff I like/want to here/etc. My "collection" is just the shelf where they go when I'm bored of them, and as such is a mess.

when buying say 3 or more discs,i realize when i get home that they are artists/groups whose name starts with the same letter.

Sometimes I'll notice when I set them on a shelf that the spines are all the same color.

"Hmm.....time to make my collection less monochromatic."

Well, yeah, Of course I just buy what I want, not thinking about collecting cds at all, but often I find myself buying cds of artists I already have cds of. I guess I'm a sort of a completeist . Usually it's because I'm sitting listening to a cd and I'm like: whoa, I need to get more of this artist's cds.

Different artist, definitely. Well actually, whichever is cheaper.
