when will the punks start drinking genny cream ale nationwide?

ian, me and my upstairs neighbor were enjoying some gennesee cream ales in our backyard this past summer. he's also the only person in chicago who knows what i mean when i say "howdy neighbor, have a 'gansett."

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 03:05 (seventeen years ago) link

GUYS WHAT ABOUT HAMM'S?

river wolf, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 15:38 (seventeen years ago) link

From the Land of Sky Blue Waters,
From the land of pines, lofty balsams,
Comes the beer refreshing,
Hamm's the beer refreshing.

Brewed where nature works her wonders,
Aged for many moons, gently mellowed,
Hamm's the beer refreshing,
Hamm's the beer refreshing.

From across the rippling water,
Through the whisp'ring pines and birches,
Comes the beer refreshing,
Hamm's the beer refreshing.

Comes a call to cool enchantment,
Comes a call to cool refreshment,
Hamm's the beer refreshing,
Hamm's the beer refreshing.

Hints of lakes and sunset breezes,
Dance and sparkle in each glassful,
Hamm's the beer refreshing,
Hamm's the beer refreshing.

i drink hamms sometimes. schlitz is great, but i think its a regional thing.

artdamages, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 16:25 (seventeen years ago) link

I envy Philadelphia for having Lion's Head

Hurting 2, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 16:29 (seventeen years ago) link

i was going to ask about schlitz. i've had it once or twice but i can't remember where. xp

sleep, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 16:30 (seventeen years ago) link

GUYS WHAT ABOUT HAMM'S

my dad drank it when he was in the service in the early '60s.

schlitz is great only because it lends itself to such great made up words and phrases like "going on a schlitzkrieg" and "getting schlitzfaced".

plus it's cheaper than pbr at the subterranean here in chicago. and it's the beer that made milwaukee famous.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 16:30 (seventeen years ago) link

my first beer was undoubtedly a schlitz or pabst. that's what my dad drank in the '70s.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 16:31 (seventeen years ago) link

and hey, jw, when i was in high school we used to drink this stuff called "koch's golden anniversary" that we could get in new hampshire for $4.99 a case. it was brewed in rochester, ny. you know anything about it?

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 16:33 (seventeen years ago) link

ahhhh golden aniversery beer...yeah...great can..also came in 40 oz's...absolutely awful

bb, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 16:44 (seventeen years ago) link

i went to college with one of the eirs to the coors empire...he was, of course, the kinda guy that should been sold in the hardware section at sears...coors family, i think, are legacy and so every catered event featuring beer featured coors. the only time i ever drank that crap was when it was at a university function or left over from some function i catered...

bb, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 16:47 (seventeen years ago) link

Yea, I dunno that stuff. Just Genny.

OTM. Was visiting friend at Penn over the weekend and this was his frat's beer of choice.

BLASTOCYST, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 16:57 (seventeen years ago) link

If you're outta Schlitz, you're outta beer.

Schlitz was my first beer as an adult, because for some reason my Argnetine uncle likes it. I think it amuses him to be slumming, beer-wise, because normally he's every kind of particular about his brandies & gins & etc.

Anyone ever had Old Milwaukee
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y117/ewing6177/OldMilwaukee.bmp
I got it on the cheap at Food Emporium

BLASTOCYST, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 17:01 (seventeen years ago) link

Also I got made fun of when I went for a drink with dmr & spouse & Mothra. The time of love for Bud was OVER on Sunday night, Metropolitan Ave is apparently a dead zone in the delivery map.

2. pertaining to or characteristic of an individual; personal; individual: a subjective evaluation.
3. placing excessive emphasis on one's own moods, attitudes, opinions, etc.; unduly egocentric.

old milwaukee isn't nearly as bad as milwaukee's best (a.k.a. milwaukee's beast).

worst beer ever was this swill we'd buy in college called U.S.A. beer. according to the can, the u.s.a. stood for "U Save Alot". the one word use of alot should have been a clue.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 17:15 (seventeen years ago) link

I will always love bud
they make you sign a statement of bud loyalty when you leave st. louis

Catsupppppppppppppp dude ‫茄蕃‪, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 17:18 (seventeen years ago) link

we called it "the beast" as in "do we have any more of the beast left?"

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 17:20 (seventeen years ago) link

i can remember a time when i thought that busch light in a can was a HIGH CLASS BEVERAGE.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 17:21 (seventeen years ago) link

ugh

dmr, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 17:22 (seventeen years ago) link

seriously. i can remember showing up to a party where there was busch light and we'd be like "wow, some society page shit going down here".

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 17:23 (seventeen years ago) link

Old Milwaukee is vastly better than the Beast, and commonly overlooked in the beer aisle. Also not available in some regions.

BLASTOCYST, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 17:24 (seventeen years ago) link

okay how bout this shit

http://www.naturalprinting.com/schaefer-beer.jpg

probably worse than black label. which is tough to do.

can anyone outside of chicago/milwaukee get Old Style? it generates some insane loyalties from chicago lifers. i work with a guy who has an old style tattoo on his forearm and judging from it's condition (and his) i'd say it's been there since the late 70s/early 80s.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 17:27 (seventeen years ago) link

my dad used to drink shaefer. the patriots used to play at shaefer stadium. then it was sullivan stadium then foxboro stadium then they wisely tore it down.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 17:28 (seventeen years ago) link

Old Style is available at my favorite cajun joint in Lexington KY
