well they got it done, this was always what the shape of a kemba trade was going to look like. sucks to have to keep moving picks to turn over these bad veteran contracts.

seems like presti gave brad a sweetheart deal to me. they only had to trade a mid first to get off kemba’s deal and they got back moses brown who the thunder signed to one of those crazy cheap borderline amoral lu dort style contracts

deal seems pretty fair to me tho yeah mo brown could swing it the celtics way, okc will prob rehab kemba and get more picks for him in six months lol

the celtics cleared $32m in cap space and all they had to do was give up a pick that is at best a coin flip to return even a solid rotation player. or looking at it the other way, the thunder are paying $32m for a coin flip’s chance at getting a solid rotation player. seems like a great deal for boston

thunder just dont care about the salary they prob even need to to reach the floor but they do love draft picks lol, its true that a mid first might be slightly below market for taking that on but i think its in the ballpark of normal

it’s not that dissimilar from the deal where OKC acquired horford, but in that one the sixers gave up a 2025 first. i’m surprised the thunder agreed to take back a pick that is locked into 18 & also still not sure why they had to give up moses brown for the privilege of taking on one of the more onerous contracts in the league

i guess part of their calculation is that kemba will opt out of the final year of his deal to get out of there if they can’t trade him but that assumes good health at minimum from him

the pick is 16 fwiw, idk the deal seems pretty normal, maybe the thunder really like this years draft or just figured its the lowest the celtics are likely to be in the next few years, the contracts are the same length and comparable this year then next year if the celtics decide to cut horf his contract is about half as much as kemba, kinda doubt the thunder are banking on kemba opting out tho it may end up making sense for him

maybe the celtics dont even cut horf but having the flexibility is nice and it will be some sort of super expiring contract next year which is good for trades not quite sure how it factors into the celtics getting brad beal tho

This trade is yet another example of Thunder executive vice president and general manager Sam Presti getting first-round picks on both ends of a trade. Presti all but pioneered the move with Kurt Thomas, getting two first-round picks -- one of them used on Serge Ibaka -- to take his salary from the tax-avoiding Phoenix Suns in 2007 before getting a third from the San Antonio Spurs at the 2008 trade deadline.

Presti did it again with Chris Paul, who came with a bevy of first-round picks when acquired from the Houston Rockets and fetched one on his way to the Phoenix Suns. Now it's happened a third time with Horford.

As a refresher, Oklahoma City got a 2025 first-round pick from the 76ers (top-six protected) along with the rights to 2020 second-round pick Theo Maledon and international stash Vasilije Micic as payment for taking on Horford's contract in exchange for a package headlined by Danny Green. Surely, part of Presti's thinking was that the Thunder could rebuild Horford's value, and that's more or less what's happened.

Now, Oklahoma City gets yet another first-round pick -- the team's third in the 2021 draft to go along with the Thunder's own and one from the Miami Heat that could be swapped for the Houston Rockets' pick if that drops to No. 5 in next week's lottery -- to take on Walker's contract for Horford.

i'm not sure the thunder rebuilt horford's value as much as they just played a shell game of swapping his contract for someone else's worse contract bcuz they're not trying to win or spend money, but it was good business

yeah it was mostly just rolling bad contracts over but horf playing well this year was good too, if he had sucked as bad as he did in philly they prob wouldve had to keep him

admittedly did not see much of the thunder this year or was he a better player or just not in a system designed for him to fail

expertly done by presti, horf played 28 games then was sat to preserve his value and let the team tank

wonder how shai feels about the thunder bringing in another lead guard in so that they can "rebuild his value"

doubt theyll do anything to get in the way of shai, plenty of minutes to go around, sure theyll keep kembas minutes down anyway as they did w horf, aging guys with injury histories and so forth

besides everyone loves kemba, good guy to have around

one thing about this deal is it makes resigning fournier easier from both a cap stand point and because they have a starting spot and more looks for him now which is good cause if they dont resign him they dont have much ability to go out and get another guy

got to, hes a pretty good player, def limited by his lack of athleticism but he can ball

with all the good perimeter defenders the celtics have they should be able to hide him pretty well

Maybe Moses Brown is a Drummond type who compiles defensive stats while not actually helping much, but the guy is a great rebounder. I'd definitely kick the tires there.

i like fournier a lot as a 3rd or 4th option. he's a pro and seems like he's pretty low-maintenance.

i wonder who they could get for thompson/smart and a pick...

There's the rookie point guard the C's drafted last year, Payton Pritchard. He's still green, but promising enough as regular season, gives you 12-to-14 minutes kind of guy. Not who you want starting.

marcus is a good point guard! its by far his best offensive mode, also gives them good size on D
