call all destroyer, Wednesday, 23 June 2021 19:58 (two years ago) link

Cunningham seems like an easy pick for Detroit

Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 23 June 2021 21:38 (two years ago) link

They’re a crazy franchise rn tho

Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 23 June 2021 21:39 (two years ago) link

could def see them do a galaxy brain type move and think they are the celtics trading down to get tatum or something idk

class project pat (m bison), Wednesday, 23 June 2021 21:45 (two years ago) link

agree it seems like a no brainer pick tho personally i’d still have suggs number 1

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 23 June 2021 22:05 (two years ago) link

make ur case, thats a1 steak sauce bold

class project pat (m bison), Wednesday, 23 June 2021 22:07 (two years ago) link

Suggs looks like the next Brandon Roy.

Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 23 June 2021 22:25 (two years ago) link

I love this draft, have no idea what Hollinger is talking about. There’s guys in the second round of ESPN’s mock that I would have been happy with in the late lotto last year.

Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 23 June 2021 22:26 (two years ago) link

i just don't see how suggs fails, i think he has the floor of an above average starting guard and the ceiling of a 5x+ all star. obv everyone wants wings so i get why cade is ranked higher but i also think this playoffs has proven the importance of guard play, if you have a guard who can score, handle the ball, actively make plays on defense, it's a really valuable player. i think he's going to be a klay, devin booker, bradley beal level player, probably not as utterly dominant as a scorer and w/ more of his value spread across the box score but in terms of overall value i think he's a perennial all star and a super high level no 2, championship caliber player.

w/ cade he has the size and potential scoring ability to be a true franchise center piece lead no 1 player so i understand why he'd go no 1, i also think if he isn't a dominant scorer that he contributes less in terms of his all around game so his ceiling is lower, tho the way he shoots at his size i can't imagine him being bad.

mobley is really cool, i just worry about how skinny he is and i think he's further away from being able to dominate pros physically. i think he's in the ayton bucket to me where he could really pop w/ some great talent around him, it's just tough sledding in the league for bigs right now. jokic and embiid are sui generis players, mobley is kind of too i just think he's behind those guys physically, they're really beasts. i think he's maybe more of a bam tier player which obv still borderline NBA but a tick down. great choice for a no 3 pick tho.

i haven't seen much of the G league guys but just reading descriptions of them they seem a bit more raw and boom or bust so i'd have them below these guys. scottie barnes seems a sure bet to be a longtime NBA player but like there's a solid 3 and D but never an all star kind of path for him if the offense doesn't come around

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 23 June 2021 23:51 (two years ago) link

i meant to say that cade's floor is lower bcuz how much of his value is tied up in the scoring, not his ceiling

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 23 June 2021 23:51 (two years ago) link

I would take Lowry for Simmons in a S&T on a non-max deal in 1.5 seconds.

Try to get him for much lower than max so you can fill out some other positions (SF, bench), but Embiid's window isn't going to be too long.

Vin Jawn (PBKR), Wednesday, 23 June 2021 23:52 (two years ago) link

cade is prob not the natural scorer that suggs is but we have seen a bunch of guys like him progressively work their way to being great scorers your kawhi tatum paul georges and so forth, also suggs is not really the shooter that you would like him to be at least at this point

lag∞n, Wednesday, 23 June 2021 23:57 (two years ago) link

yeah i think paul george is a good comparison for cade, i'm not sure if he ever gets into the best player in the NBA conversation but the path for him to be in that next tier w/ some first team all NBAs and top 5 MVP finishes is pretty clear

J0rdan S., Thursday, 24 June 2021 00:02 (two years ago) link

i do think people can get a little too carried away with the positional stuff, my feeling is you want bucket getters first and foremost, guys who can score against playoff defenses, now it might be nice to have a super switchable big wing but its not like you just have your choice of many guys who can really score the ball

carlisle to pacers 4/29

pure rim rest (Spottie), Thursday, 24 June 2021 15:17 (two years ago) link

he should be good for that team, figure out the fit

lag∞n, Thursday, 24 June 2021 15:30 (two years ago) link

that is great for the pacers

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Thursday, 24 June 2021 15:51 (two years ago) link

If Paul George could pass like Cade he’d have an MVP by now probably

Matt Armstrong, Thursday, 24 June 2021 15:53 (two years ago) link

Mobley I have questions about. To me the best thin about this draft is the depth

Matt Armstrong, Thursday, 24 June 2021 15:54 (two years ago) link

ESPN Sources: Discussions on Ben Simmons' future with the Sixers started in Chicago this week, including Klutch CEO/agent Rich Paul and franchise's front office. No trade request was made, but talks will continue. https://t.co/UsCfhS173L

bizarre

J0rdan S., Thursday, 24 June 2021 16:19 (two years ago) link

i guess if they feel like the sixers are gonna trade him they want to choose where he goes but it’s not like they have much leverage

J0rdan S., Thursday, 24 June 2021 16:19 (two years ago) link

i like how in that article - which was obviously sourced from the ben simmons camp and/or the sixers - it says that "his trade value in the marketplace is still significant, sources said"

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Thursday, 24 June 2021 16:26 (two years ago) link

lag∞n, Thursday, 24 June 2021 16:36 (two years ago) link

What's to discuss? Get him off the team, now.

Vin Jawn (PBKR), Thursday, 24 June 2021 16:57 (two years ago) link

would think the 76ers want to try and build his value back up now. there couldnt be a worse time to trade him.

pure rim rest (Spottie), Thursday, 24 June 2021 17:29 (two years ago) link

theres that but also what if this is cutting their losses? if the problems are shooting/psychological and he continues to not progress and/or hilly continues using his reputation as a public toilet, that could tank his value even more.

class project pat (m bison), Thursday, 24 June 2021 17:34 (two years ago) link

they need to open their season on the road and he needs to hit five 3s in that season-opening game or something, in order for philly to be an environment where it is psychologically possible for him to build his value back up

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Thursday, 24 June 2021 17:35 (two years ago) link

he needs to give them enough of a spark that they can muster the hope to at least root for him

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Thursday, 24 June 2021 17:36 (two years ago) link

carlisle dropping a match on his way out the door

Rick Carlisle on his Mavs: "It's hard to put an exact finger on it. It’s just a feeling that I had that it would be mutually beneficial. My hope is that Jason Kidd will be the next coach of the Mavs because he and Luka have so many things in common as players."

― pure rim rest (Spottie), Thursday, June 24, 2021 1:29 PM (twenty-nine minutes ago)

yeah and w/ morey as GM they will have a very keen understanding of value

i think the issue is that you a. risk the rebuilding of value not happening and then have to make an in-season trade at the same value which will be even more difficult than trading him in the offseason b. he plays better and they get tricked into thinking he's improved and then we hit the playoffs and the fit doesn't work and they're back in the same spot a year from now w/ another wasted year of embiid

i don't get the shade in that quote involving kidd and luka? carlisle thanked kidd in his iphone resignation note it seems like he genuinely respects him

I am tired of hearing that the Sixers are selling low on Simmons, which assumes that he gets his shit together shoots >50% on FTs and maybe learns to shoot from outside 10ft. Let someone else figure this headcase out.

I am also willing to bet that keeping Simmons means losing Embiid.

Vin Jawn (PBKR), Thursday, 24 June 2021 18:13 (two years ago) link

am i the only one confused as to why j kidd is a candidate for anything? domestic violence charges, ripping through six packs at work in milwaukee. i thought everyone kind of hated him

Heez, Thursday, 24 June 2021 18:18 (two years ago) link

yeah it's not shade so much as that would not be a good move for dallas, or luka. carlisle might mean it sincerely though

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Thursday, 24 June 2021 18:22 (two years ago) link

If Embiid really wants to lose Simmons, he should probably catch him around the free throw line and then attempt to dribble him toward the basket.

no shade, just a bad idea lol

lag∞n, Thursday, 24 June 2021 19:36 (two years ago) link

my feeling is the sixers probably can find an offer that will allow them to let simmons go to start a new life, not a great offer but one that is like ok were probably not going to do better

lag∞n, Thursday, 24 June 2021 19:38 (two years ago) link

The Dallas Mavericks are closing in on the hiring a new GM and Jason Kidd has emerged as a strong frontrunner to be hired as head coach, sources tell @espn_macmahon and me.

Luka is a bit young to be a coach killer, but he's always been ahead of the curve for his age.

very weird that woj is able to leak the name of the coach who is going to be hired by the GM before he can leak the name of the GM
