oh obv not, but they may be delusional enough to "test the waters"

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Friday, 25 June 2021 16:03 (two years ago) link

might be able to get something in the low lottery, someone would have to be enthusiastic about paying sexton tho

lag∞n, Friday, 25 June 2021 16:03 (two years ago) link

maybe they can move for an overpaid vet they seem like a team "that wants to make the playoffs"

lag∞n, Friday, 25 June 2021 16:04 (two years ago) link

maybe they just got tired of playing that old chestnut "Kevin Love is on the trading block" and needed to mix it up a little

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Friday, 25 June 2021 16:07 (two years ago) link

thing is, if mobley falls to #3, sexton-garland-okoro-mobley-allen is a really intriguing starting 5!

class project pat (m bison), Friday, 25 June 2021 16:09 (two years ago) link

can’t imagine there are many teams out there looking to trade real assets in order to pay a tiny ball hog PG a bunch of money except perhaps another poorly run franchise

J0rdan S., Friday, 25 June 2021 16:12 (two years ago) link

i’m looking at the standings rn and i don’t see a single fit for a sexton trade they’re prob stuck with him

Yes but imagine coaching it

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 25 June 2021 16:25 (two years ago) link

I wonder if some teams will see Reggie Jackson going off in the playoffs and consider the fact that Sexton is Reggie with 5 times the talent

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 25 June 2021 16:26 (two years ago) link

Sexton is a tiny ball hog point guard but he also scored the shit out of the ball and gets better every year

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 25 June 2021 16:37 (two years ago) link

otm haha

knicks trading for sexton might not even be a bad idea

lag∞n, Friday, 25 June 2021 16:47 (two years ago) link

idk what they wld trade but still

lag∞n, Friday, 25 June 2021 16:47 (two years ago) link

yeah that one does fit. maybe quickley and a pick or something. would be pretty dumb by the knicks but i could see it happening

J0rdan S., Friday, 25 June 2021 16:55 (two years ago) link

sounds about right

― Matt Armstrong, Friday, June 25, 2021 12:26 PM (twenty-nine minutes ago)

i think the difference is that reggie jackson is actually kinda big for a guard, he's more suited to playing off the ball in a number of ways, esp in the playoffs he can guard 3 positions and not kill you. sexton is like bottom 5 percentile for the NBA in terms of size, it's just hard for me to imagine him being an off ball player. and when reggie jackson was getting paid real money in the prime of his career it didn't work out. he's nice to have on a minimum contract tho

also it's pretty debatable whether sexton has gotten much better, his stats between the last two seasons are essentially identical. he started passing a bit more. i don't hate him it just seems obvious he's gonna have to be the focal point of your offense at this stage in your career and i'm not sure where that's getting you. maybe the second round one year?

J0rdan S., Friday, 25 June 2021 17:07 (two years ago) link

knicks fans might burn down the city if they make the second round

lag∞n, Friday, 25 June 2021 17:13 (two years ago) link

lol i was gonna say, 2nd round in the east is kinda respectable! which is abt all that cleveland can aspire to when bron doesnt play for them

class project pat (m bison), Friday, 25 June 2021 17:23 (two years ago) link

he's not getting anywhere near the second round w/ the cavs. maybe on a better team... i guess the knicks are better? sexton and julius randle trying to share the ball would be really funny

J0rdan S., Friday, 25 June 2021 17:27 (two years ago) link

if you've washed out with the cavs and every opportunity in the world to have the ball it's not a great sign. sexton has talent and someday he'll be another reggie jackson--a guy making the minimum who finds a spot for half a season on a team where he's the 6th-best player.

call all destroyer, Friday, 25 June 2021 17:31 (two years ago) link

NB i am not sexton believer and i dont think cleveland will be like GOOD good but theyll at least have something resembling a plan

class project pat (m bison), Friday, 25 June 2021 17:33 (two years ago) link

a guy making the minimum who finds a spot for half a season on a team where he's the 6th-best player.

which, when you consider the intense global competition for NBA roster spots, is still pretty respectable as a hoops career.

am i allowed to yellow card you back?

J0rdan S., Friday, 25 June 2021 17:36 (two years ago) link

yah guys like sexton just have to realize their calling in life as a 6th man chucker

pure rim rest (Spottie), Friday, 25 June 2021 17:51 (two years ago) link

xp haha no I ALONE!!

class project pat (m bison), Friday, 25 June 2021 17:54 (two years ago) link

crazy that jacksons making the minimum and balling out in the offs

He hasn’t washed out with the cavs tho, he’s been very productive for them

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 25 June 2021 18:02 (two years ago) link

Collin Sexton is 22 and has career averages of 20/3/3 on 46/39/83. That’s a seriously talented scorer. Teams will want to figure out how to make it work.

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 25 June 2021 18:03 (two years ago) link

plus theres the prospect of improvement from just not being on the cavs

lag∞n, Friday, 25 June 2021 18:08 (two years ago) link

i think it just depends on the price point and expectations. if he's giving you a decently efficient 20 ppg w/ no other production on the floor then that's a pretty good sixth man. but that can't be the center piece of your offense or franchise -- i assume he sees himself as the latter and will be looking for donovan mitchell and de'aaron fox's contract and not jordan clarkson's

J0rdan S., Friday, 25 June 2021 18:11 (two years ago) link

call it whatever you want, they don’t want to pay the guy.

call all destroyer, Friday, 25 June 2021 18:11 (two years ago) link

if you look at 538 raptor offense only the names you see around him among guards are kendrick nunn, RJ barrett, caris lavert, dillon brooks. if you look at offensive win shares you see delon wright, devonte graham, fred van vleet, cameron payne. all of these guys are positive players but they're paid at a certain price point. there's prob a lot of teams that would be interested in sexton at 4 years and $65 million, but 5 years and $175 million is a diff story

J0rdan S., Friday, 25 June 2021 18:23 (two years ago) link

yeah trying to sign a sixth man who thinks hes an allstar is dicey

lag∞n, Friday, 25 June 2021 18:25 (two years ago) link

I would be happy with 4/80 for him

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 25 June 2021 19:58 (two years ago) link

the cavs prob would be too. i bet they'll end up giving him $125m+ once they aren't able to trade him

J0rdan S., Friday, 25 June 2021 20:33 (two years ago) link

I’d pay more if I was getting him for a late first

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 25 June 2021 21:00 (two years ago) link

He's RFA, rite? Cavs should let another team make an offer, then if it seems reasonable, match it. If it's a max offer, dump him on them.

Charania says that the Blazers are “locked in” and looking to complete a deal with Billups.

boo

Clay, Saturday, 26 June 2021 03:55 (two years ago) link

Billups might be great idk

Matt Armstrong, Saturday, 26 June 2021 04:35 (two years ago) link

he's olshey's bud so i don't like it

Clay, Saturday, 26 June 2021 04:36 (two years ago) link

TIL abt the very credible r*pe case against chauncey so this sucks ass

class project pat (m bison), Saturday, 26 June 2021 04:38 (two years ago) link

fuck

symsymsym, Saturday, 26 June 2021 06:21 (two years ago) link

well if the billups hire is real I’m gonna learn to turn off the part of myself that loves the blazers for a few years and just follow basketball generally. it sucks but I’ll be far from the only one. indefensible, villainous decision. to hell with ‘em.

Clay, Saturday, 26 June 2021 19:59 (two years ago) link

fun seeing the organization throwing up their hands and saying "sorry, this is dame's guy! we definitely would have hired someone else"

call all destroyer, Saturday, 26 June 2021 20:31 (two years ago) link

it's predictable that the blazers' PR may take a hit from hiring billups and having his dirty laundry aired out in local media, but equally predictable that if the blazers have an unexpectedly successful season with a trip to the WCF or the Finals, all will be forgiven and forgotten in a surge of enthusiasm. the converse is true, too. if the team just limps along or falls apart he'll be reviled, but not for any credible rape accusations. it's just the way it works.

What's It All About, Althea? (Aimless), Saturday, 26 June 2021 21:21 (two years ago) link

so you’re saying if the team does good people will like the team and if they do bad people will like the team less, interesting

Clay, Saturday, 26 June 2021 22:32 (two years ago) link

I'm saying that in the eyes of the franchise and most of the fans, the rape accusation against billups is just a small PR management problem that will go away as soon as the season gets underway, so it probably was a negligible factor in the decision to hire him. the local media will probably play along bcz the blazers are proven money makers for them.
